Moammar will survive until the day his authority up and leaves him because the tribe he heads wants a replacement King. Knowing that day is hard in a society where their version of elections are done by street demonstration and riots...like the Madison tribe seems to want do it in Wisconsin.
“The man on the street has no real conviction, but there are nefarious consequences if you don’t support Gaddafi,” an alleged expert/college professor claims.
Oh, bullshit. Only the most ruthless tyrant stays in power without genuine support. I think the biggest miscalculation by the west was exactly this. (I'm not saying Gaddafi is adored outside a relatively small group, but I don't think he's hated nearly as much as was portrayed.)
Is it too early to be blaming media for carrying Obama's water about Libya? For not asking him "tough questions" in the run up to the KMA? For questioning why congressional leaders didn't challenge Obama more forcefully about this war?
As the narcos in Colombia say 'plata o plomo'. The threat of lead is soften with the balm of silver. Oil money buys a lot of silver to hand out as sweets to his tribal peeps. Once he is dead not a one of those mentioned in the article will ever again acknowledge ever knowing, hearing of or supporting the Duck of Death.
Arabs are a tribal society. The loyalty to the tribe overrules everything but family (and in some cases, even overrules family). Gaddafi's most loyal supporters are his tribe, who have been give the plum positions in Libya. They have much to lose if Gaddafi falls, much like the Sunni lost everything in Iraq when Saddam fell (and they were 20% of the population).
The real question is what level of retribution will be showered on Gadaffi's tribe when he goes. I think that is one of the reasons that these people put up their show of support, they smell the consequences of their fall. Will they resort to the same level of insanity that we saw in Iraq if they are pushed aside?

It is the Libyan equivalent of KMA. It does not mean kinetic...

Science, Barack, America, enough!
The 2012 chant of Obama's adoring leftist crowds.
What do you bet they have little kids singing songs about how great he is? Just like us and Obama.

Quick, send fatass Michael Moore over there to film all the cute little kids flying kites before we blow them all to smithereens.

"Mmmmm, mmmm, mmmm, Muammar Muhammad Gaddafi"
I don't understand... that's what they'd be saying if George Bush were president.
Don't they know Obama is president?

Khadaffy is a Bedouin and they tend to be regarded in the Arab world as hillbillies, so he'll have a lot of friends.

Next thing, you'll be asking why Angie Merkel pulled the Jerries out.

I know, it's never too early to blame media.
