A baby girl has been kept away from her mother for almost five years after she refused to sign a form consenting to a Caesarean section - even though she did not end up needing to have the operation.
Wow, sounds pretty crazy. Then you look up the case where you find that the appellate court actually says the exact opposite of that, and that the woman actually lost custody due to her refusal to be treated for chronic paranoid schizophrenia with possible psychotic ideation and repeated non-compliance with the court's requirements for regaining custody.
Back in 2007, I optimistically expressed the hope that electing Hillary Clinton (we all assumed she would get the nomination—not that ridiculous vanity candidate from Illinois) as President would finally sell the Democrats on the Unitary Executive (and what I call the "robust executive," too). 'Twasn't to be. Instead, Democrats (except those serving in the administration, obviously) remain skeptical and electing Obama seems to have turned the Republicans against it! *sigh*
I can handle the double standard that the media has when it comes to Tea Party vs. Union protesters.
An activist judge blocking laws, Unions that represent police officers blackmailing businesses, police standing idle as the peoples Capitol building is vandalized /illegally occupied and murder threats against conservatives treated with minimal urgency? That is a different story. The scariest thing about the past few months in WI for me is the slow realization that there seems to be a double standard within law enforcement as well.
I agree, ALH. I don't live there, but each item on your list is rather arresting. Makes one wonder what sort of shenanigans one could see in one's own state.
Titus, to tell you the truth—presumptuous and uncharitable though it is—I am not surprised that folks with the average Madisonian's outlook would be dismayed with a faithful and orthodox bishop. But while that makes his job harder, it's all the more reason to be grateful that he's there.
"Makes one wonder what sort of shenanigans one could see in one's own state."
It could be worse. In CA there isn't even any reform for the parasites to whine about. We are looking forward to raising taxes in the highest taxed state with one of the highest unemployment rates.
Pray for your conservatives, and vote for them too. You won't know what you've lost until they're gone.
Out here it's like we gave our teenage children the family checkbook. They spent all the money and now they are saying: Mom and Dad, can't you just get second jobs?"
It could be worse. In CA there isn't even any reform for the parasites to whine about.
Actually, there WAS one good reform initiative being pushed by the governor -- getting rid of the "redevelopment agencies". They waste money, they are rife with corruption, and they abuse the hell out of eminent domain law.
For some crazy-assed reason, the Republicans voted to keep them. Sigh.
I do have to say that I am a little sad that Althouse is still all about locale. I was hoping that she could expand national....or even, maybe, Global.
But that is asking too much.
Just get your pussy to Blue Mounds this weekend and go to the Hooterville Restaurant.
If you do go south of Madison though they are a bunch of Swiss and Norwegians....which means LIBERALS.
I have been to both those countries and they are a bunch of libtards. The fags can get married. Need I say anymore? Meade would be verclempt.
Every time I see your photos of protesters, I think would I want to work with someone like that, let alone be in a union with them protecting the incompetents' and misfits' bloated salaries and benefits. And I sure as heck don't want to pay for them. Some unions really do represent competent, superior workmen for jobs such as boiler maker, and provide apprentice programs and certifications of skill. But isn't that what college degrees are supposed to provide?
Andrew Bolt (blogger/columnist) is currently on trial in Australia in a federal court.
He questioned the motives of some people claiming to be aborigines (think Ward Churchill's claims to be and indian) and suggested that they did so mainly for financial gain.
Now they're trying to bar him from making such remarks again.
I'm still using the Farmall tractor for snowplowing. My renovation of the 1980 CJ7 Jeep is ongoing. Today I'll pull the motor. That will leave me with the frame and the wheels are still on it. I need to remove what's left of the brake and gas lines, shocks and the stabilizer arm. Slow going. All of the nuts and bolts have to be heated with my acetylene torch before I can even attempt to remove them. Otherwise, I'll break the bolt. I've sandblasted a lot of parts, and when these few things are removed from the frame, then I'll push it outside and out of the way, then I'll set up my painting table and put a coat of primer on the parts that have been blasted. Once the snow recedes enough so I can get to my tandem wheel trailer, I'll load the frame on it, and have someone else sandblast the frame. Lots of work left.
As long as it doesn't threaten the cherished lies of liberals, alter liberals dysfunctional view of the World, or present irrefutable truth...yeah, then you are free to say anything, which won't be much at all. Better to simply exercise your right to remain silent. In newspeak, the former right becomes a weapon of war.
Wow! A more extensive job than I first thought, hopefully you'll be able to plow in more comfort this coming winter. With forecasters predicting an overall cooling trend you'll definitely need that plow going forward.
There's a very good possibility that the Jeep project won't be ready by next winter, but the winter after next. Once the frost is out of the ground, then I'll return to my springtime box elder removal program. A jihad if there ever was one. Then, I need to put up another building. I also need to extend the cement pad for stacking my wood and put a roof on it. Sometime before next winter I need to put up a porch over the door that I use to go into the house. There is a danger with snow coming off of the roof because of the steel roof that I put on the house last fall. Very dangerous, it comes off all at once. And it comes off rapidly.
I think it's time we petitioned Congress to introduce legislation that would outlaw public sector unions all across the nation. It would be exactly what liberal icon FDR wanted.
We can start pushing for it now, and then President Palin can sign it into law in 2013.
Simon, my 85-yo Mother-in-Law married into the Catholic church (and consequently was mostly disowned by her Mom). Daughter of a small businessman, farm owner. She can't stand the bully Bishop either. He's called Bishop Dursley in our family.
For all you do-it-yourselfers, don't do what I did and wait until your in your mid-sixties before attempting to put a steel roof on your house. My roofs are very steep, and the job was an absolute ass kicker.
Titus, MM, a bishop's job isn't to be popular, and calling people to do what they should rather than what they would like rarely makes someone popular. Well, but you know, maybe that's not the case. I'm not in Madison, and I don't know everything that's happened—but every time I read about Bp. Morlino catching flack, it's invariably from people whining that they want to do something they shouldn't be doing, and the bully bishop won't let them (or vice versa). Wah wah wah. Still, as I said, maybe there's more going on; maybe those are the outliers and bad behavior is more common. There's an easy way to find out: What's their grievance?

Why I oughtta...! Er... Uh...
Nah. Got nothin'.
Not even a good wv.
I read "shorts threat."
Ok, I protest this cafe. The coffee is lukewarm, the beer is skunky, and all of the good looking women have left with someone else.
Example of bad journalism:
This story is going around again:

The bastard will probably let that flag drag in the soil.
Maybe, it's just one family? At a stop light?
... you're free to say what you like... short of threats.
and birther posts ;)
What if we threaten to wear shorts?

Say what I want?
I want a pony.
By the by, Madison has an outstanding Bishop, his excellency Robert Morlino. Be sure to give him spiritual support; he has a tough billet.

Althouse and Meade are doing it right now.
Funny Simon, my parents, catholics, hate him.
Apparently Snooki is in pro wrestling now. Hopefully she'll be boxing Tonya Harding within a year or two.

Got a protest? This is a case for Super Patriot!
Two lesbians north of the town
Made sixty-nine love on the ground
Their unbridled lust
Leaked out in the dust
And made so much mud that they drowned

Simon, FYI, my parents are totally blue collar. Not what you might imagine as your typical "madisonian".
Never went to college, both grew up on farms with outdoor toilets. My father worked with his "hands" for a road construction company.
And yet, yet, they aren't good catholics.
I blame myself. They had a fag son and I believe it changed their outlook.
Also, they got really tired of going to mass with some priest that barely spoke english because the english priest did a boy.

It's getting light enough outside for me to see that it's snowing. AGAIN! STOP IT!

The guy with the flag over his shoulder probably thinks he's showing it's patriotic to protest.
(you, know, the way dissent was the highest form of patriotism until it became dissenting the current adventure)
Somebody should tell the moron he's supposed to show the flag a bit more respect than that.
AllanS, how is your snowplow project coming along, are you still working on that idea?
For the record, "we'll throw our baseballs in your yard" is not a silly threat.
It means "we know where you live and will leave evidence behind that we were in striking distance of you and your family last night"
This cafe seems rather appropriate:

AllenS, my parents put a steel roof on their house last year, and they also had a lot of whooshing snow fall this winter.
It doesn't help that two roofs empty onto the front porch. I guess they shouldn't sell the house in winter :)
AllenS, it slipped my mind that you live on a farm and I guess that whatever down time you've had is coming to a end, good luck to ya'!
Cityslickers don't know from farm work, most times I wish I did though.
