The history of the NFL has long been hidden from its fan’s. Even so far as the symbols and logo’s and even the names of even its most storied franchises. For example the New York Giants were named after the original owner “Big” Tim Mara who had a penis that measured two inches long which is a world record for an Irishman. And the Logo of the famous Green Bay Packers was designed to honor the original owner Curly Lambeau’s first wife; Grendal. (Reverse the Call on the Field, The Secret History of the NFL, Doris Kearns Goodwin, ESPN Press 2010)
And, speaking of video, the video of the FIRST Super Bowl has finally been found. Info here: http://meteorologicalmusings.blogspot.com/2011/02/found-first-super-bowl.html
Are you sure its not like KFC which once stood for "Kentucky Fried Chicken" but now in the age of healthy eating will simply stand for the brand.
In the same way G will just stand for the modern American football from the great state of Wisconsin.
No longer representing a white working-class port and manufacturing hub, the G will respresent diversity, high speed rail, cheese (but cheese always accompanied by a glass of fine wine) and all that is good and proGressive.
Yes, that is what "G" stands for.
(now if we could just change the name "Packer" to...)

Newer and remodeled KFCs now feature "Kentucky Fried Chicken" on their exteriors as well as packaging that spells out the original name. So, everything old is new again.
Of course it stands for "Green Bay"! It couldn't stand for "Greatness". If it did, there would have been a plethora of lawsuits from Al Davis... 'Cause, you know, he's sure he invented the term, and it can only be associated with ONE team... HIS!!!!
There's nary a mention of the G standing for greatness in any documentation associated with the team during the initial use of the G on the side of the helmet.

I thought the Raiders were all about "excellence."

Are you trying to tell me it doesn't stand for $1,000.00?
Tempting to call B.S. especially with Tiki involved, but it appears to hold up.
Wait a minute.
What if the the "G" stood for Garage.
Will that effect how you root Super Bowl Sunday?
What does the 'U' on the University of Miami helmets stand for? I can't bring myself to believe that it stands for University.
My favorite cap is one I bought from the "University of Florda" with the initals reversed. It's a keeper.
And here I thought it stood for Georgia (the red and black one does).
Trooper,
Are you sure that the caps isn't for Fordham University?
I do know that the chant to encourage the sports teams at my Alma Mater is 'Let's Go Peay!'
I thought the G stood for Obama's midterm course correction.
It doesn't stand for Glombardi?
I think the "G" stands for the spot where the Green Bay fans touch themselves when they think of the frozen tundra. And cheese.

Yeah, and suppose Curly Lambeau married Garage.
Q.: Would Garage keep his maiden name? Or would he just hyphenate?

What a dope. Try again, Tiki.
Hey thanks, Lem. Don't be a stranger.
Meade, please learn not to throw off your back foot. You don't want to end up like Jay Cutler, do you?

He said she was a real monster. His divorce attorney was named Beowulf.
Does the G stand for "Giant Hippopotamus Women of Wisconsin?"
I teased my sis-in-law from Wisconsin Rapids that many people in her state are surprised to learn that the logo is actually a letter of the alphabet.
...and they usually say, 'Really! Which one?'
Being a Wisconsin team, I assumed the G was either for Gorgonzola or Gruyere.
Some old TV ad, probably for General Mills cereals or something
Boy: Remember, the G is for goodness
Girl: Also [slams boy] girls.
At the end , it will be still a cheerleaderlees SB

My daughter, who went to Fordham, has one of those. I think they stopped making it (at least she said she couldn't get me one).``

Well, in theory, anyway.
Being a Wisconsin team, I assumed the G was either for Gorgonzola or Gruyere
What about Gouda (pronounced goooodah in Wisconsin, but howda in Holland)?
and that long curved white marking on the Vikings helments stands for .... never mind.
Well the rumor in the NFL for a long time was that it stands for gay as the original name of the team was the Green Bay Fudge Packers.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
They should be proud.
