Wild in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

"Wauwatosa police confirmed on Monday that a gun was fired outside the Mayfair Mall on Sunday in connection with an incident in which large groups of unruly youths ran through the mall, forcing an early shutdown."

This is what happens when you replace Marshall Fields with a Macys.

Double U is really double V but both letters suggest alliteration.

wv = "foniest" That's the foniest phony word yet.

googling reveals there was a similar rampage there in February.

The NY Daily News reports police suspect the incident was coordinated on Facebook -- again the Internet is at fault.

News videos of the mall include Dr. and Mrs. Sumit Sinha's holiday shoplifting spree from Dec. 2009. But the good doctor took a "four-credit course in ethics" and his license was fully reinstated.

Unruly 'utes at the mall?

Yawn.

All fun 'n games until someone discharges a weapon.

Ran thru a mall? I guess the NFL's Play60 initiative to get kids moving and off the couch is working.

From the news reports I read earlier, the assault on the Boston Store came after one girl was detained on suspicion of shoplifting. A few texts and I'm sure her pals came running.

The videos of the events inside the mall don't exactly show Boston Store type clients running wild.

Obviously Wisconsin should be building a solar-powered high-speed youth recreation center.

Remember kids. Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

Keep that permit to carry handy kids.

Because Lord knows Washington DC and Chicago and Minneapolis, home to some of the most restrictive gun laws in the US, hardly have any gun crimes at all.

And never by "youths".

The article I read earlier today said that it was mostly "Girls Gone Wild".

This problems at Mayfair Mall have been developing for years. Likewise Bay Shore Mall, the Downtown Mall on Wisconsin Ave, and others--and Northridge Mall is dead. Formerly nice, pleasant, safe neighborhoods are in bad shape. All because of barbaric "youths".

pst314 म्हणाले...

"Where is Hillary and the village?"

How about "It takes a village of stand-up citizens to give these savages the beat-downs they deserve"? :-)

"This is what happens when you replace Marshall Fields with a Macys."

You mean Hermes, the god of commerce and trade, sent bands of marauding barbarians as just retribution? But then he would have sent them to Chicago, where the headquarters of Marshall Fields was. Oh wait, my bad: Chicago is plagued by marauding barbarians who are destroying the city. They're known as the Regular Democratic Party. :-)

Toad Trend म्हणाले...

I KNOW nobody believes the gun involved was obtained legally.

And, it didn't shoot itself.

Just sayin'.

It looks like LaTisha and DaRon went shopping. LaTisha wants to help re-distribute the wealth. DaRon brought his 9......just in case.

I thought it was Minneapolis, that Dayton's was in charge but they switched all the stores to the Field's brand.

More likely a middle-aged white man* who felt himself threatened by roving bands of teens, and fired a warning shot.

All I will say is this: The benefits that my son enjoys on account of being the offspring of his father and his mother come to a sharp, harsh and abrupt stop the day he makes as bad a choice as this. No whining, "No fair!"--because he's been forewarned, for years already. Forewarning may not work, to be sure. That's often the way of it. But as he might, in the end, be resistant to behavior-shaping, we are likely to be resistant to bad-behavior overlooking.

And we've had many more years--nay, decades--of practice in obduracy.

The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade thugs on my block growing up were proud of their shoplifting skills, and scorned me as a wimp for not participating.

This was an all-white, middle-class neighborhood.

FLS: I'm not getting how your last comment follows from what I said, yet I'm sure it's not an inherent non sequitur. Will you clarify?

(I never shoplifted, either, though in the presence; and I'm certain that's true of my husband, also.)

former law student म्हणाले...

reader: the parents did not know their kids were shoplifting -- at least I hope they didn't know.

It sounds like there are some true Luddites up there if they're worried that this disturbance may have been organized on Facebook. A flash mob? On teh internetz? Oh noes!

Flash mobs aren't all bad; there was one a few weeks ago here in Dallas that got over 100 people to show up at Nordstrom and sing the Hallelujah Chorus, complete with piano accompaniment.

Granted, Nordstrom management was in on the deal. But still, it sounds like some of the people connected with the WI mall are blaming the medium with which the wrongdoing was organized, rather than those who did wrong.

Here's a video of the Dallas flash mob in case anyone's interested. (I really should have gotten my lazy self off the couch and participated in that; it looked like fun.)

reader_iam म्हणाले...

FLS: OK. Got it. And your point is well taken.

My husband's and my life has been so techno-ubiquitous from well before our son's birth. He's grown up with that as breathing (much as I, as the child of professional musicians, grew up with *that* as breathing). It's there in the air, so there, everywhere.

I'm sure he'll do all sorts of stuff, behind our backs. But I will reiterate that he ought be careful: Because whatever else we might be, we're not unaware, on account of not just vast experience but also because of who and what we are.

Also, we're currently homeschooling him (he did start out in a school setting). It remains to be seen at what point he's mainstreamed back group school. Your point (a good one) accrues to the side that says middle school/junior high ain't the best choice of point.

Tosa Guy, I followed your link and found this YouTube link, along with this comment from a concerned neighbor of the mall.

"There’s a video shot by a bystander with her iPhone from inside Barnes and Noble that shows the crowd being herded out . . . it’s shot by a 22 year old white woman from behind a barred gate as crowds of blacks walk by. The symbolism is sad and inescapable. I wonder how they decided who got to be on which side of the bars?"
