I am going to make duck and andouille gumbo soon, with ducks from my neighbor, who hunts. I'll serve it with good sweet potatoes from Avoyelles Parish - Beauregards, from Marksville, to be specific. Marksville is my partner's birthplace, and her aunt keeps a box of Marksville sweet potatoes on her porch, dirt-encrusted and right out of the patch. We had some for Thanksgiving and they were so good, deeply sweet and almost custardy.

We have to make a trip to Dallas to follow up with the s-i-l's house fire recovery, so we'll take the old route on 190 for some of the trip and sidetrack to Marksville and pick up a box for ourselves.; ৩/১/১১, ৯:৪৪ PM

I think if you could become fully aware of what's in the sink in your kitchen, I think it would just blow your mind. Isn't there just as much beauty to be perceived in your kitchen as there is off on some vacation? I mean, I think that not only is there nothing more pleasurable about a vacation: I think there's nothing that different. And I think if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own house. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with!
