Seeing what you want to see, rather than what's right in front of you, has its virtues (but many more problems too). Mothers may be more prone to that when it comes to sons than daughters. For this mother, her son will always be the "golden boy who is so good" that she imagines him to be.

Wish her well. She'll need it. One wonders whether the mother of the Tucson shooter had a similar reaction.

I saw the first couple lines of this over the weekend. Ever few years one of these stories surfaces and they almost as indecipherable as the Giffords shooting.

The local TV news loves to interview the mother of the accused. The comment is always the same:

"He could not have done it. He was such a good boy!"

At which point, I can be pretty sure the perp is guilty!!
