"I respectfully decline your offer," said the judge. "You are a danger to all civilized members of society."

The offer, from Zaire Paige, 24, who had just received a 107-year sentence, was: "With all due respect and from the bottom of my heart, suck my dick."

The thing we all should take away from this is, it will be a long time before Paige becomes convinced he didn't score on the judge. People who think (and are capable of behaving) like this loathsome beast are among us always. Sometimes even in our own families.

Now he goes to jail, where he can get his dick sucked an awful lot.

It will be a sextravaganza of cocksucking ... paid for by taxpayers.

See, this is the dirty little secret about our prisons. Many of the prisoners WANT to be there.

All the cocksucking you could ever want.

One of the comments to the Daily News article predicts Zaire's future with what almost certainly is a high degree of accuracy. I have taken the liberty of repeating it in its entirety, with paragraph breaks added for readability:

NY Dept. of Corrections inmates adopt a "Tough Gut" lifestyle. But they eventually get beaten down and mellow out. This guy will join the "Bloods" or "Crips" and spend the next 20 years assaulting other inmates and being a soldier for his gang. Then he'll discover 'Islam" or the "Moorish Brotherhood" or "5 Percenters" and try to become a "prison intellectual". He'll get his GED and go to some gang rehabilitation unit and try to be an example of what gang life did to him.

He will continue to grow old and become more introspective and tired of his lifestyle and seek to get parole. He'll say he wants to help other kids avoid prison and seek to go to schools and address teens to warn them about the dangers of gang violence and gang lifestyle. He'll try to get a better job in prison like a phone bank for the DMV or a furniture shop.

He'll be paroled after he's spent about 35-40 years behind bars and let out when he's 65-70 years old. Then he'll begin to get sick from hypertension or diabetes and pass away alone in a room somewhere. The neighbors or boarding house owner will complain of a foul odor coming from his room and he'll be found dead with worms all over him after being dead for about a week or two. He'll have no family or children left in this world and die alone and pathetic. He'll be cremated or buried in Potter's Field as an unknown. Not so tough anymore!

So...taxpayers now have to foot the bill for this guy's incarceration for the next 60 years or so. Sending these types of incorigibles to a frozen labor camp in Alaska is sounding better and better.

Maguro, exactly. If there were any justice he should have another 5 years just for that trite construction.

There was a time this little moron wouldn't have made it to the courthouse and a time when, once in court, he would have hanged less than a day after sentence was passed.

ScottM, Florida, and ironrails are all probably right about what will happen to him, although, as these things work out, he may just have sentence passed on him from some friend or relative of the victim.

Justice is where you find it.

Frankly, our prisons are much too good for him. I'm all for the "Ben Hur" type of Roman prison. Take him to the lowest basement of the place, shove him in a small windowless cell, shut and lock the door and from that point on, feed him once a day through a slit in the door. You'll only know he's dead when the food stops disappearing.

Then wash out the cell, rinse, and repeat with the next piece of shit.

This wasn't some brave public stand for principles and high ideals; it's "you ain't gonna get the last word on me": prideful and ultimately impotent. Thugs like this are so perpetually self-absorbed that their minds focus solely upon offenses against their own pride. In prison, he will continue to threaten, fight, and abuse other inmates to feed his god Pride.

He would be far better off sentenced to hang by the neck until dead. At least then, he would have his mind concentrated for a while on something else, and that fact might lead to his ultimate benefit.

Also in New York, in Queens Village, a gang of teenage girls attacked a worker in a local Wendy's, when she tried to stop them from fighting and throwing food. They kicked her in the head repeatedly, and she got a concussion.

They filmed the beating on their cell phones.

Maybe they can be up for an Oscar, and increase the number that go to people of color.

अनामित म्हणाले...

"You're about to be a bitch for the rest of your life."

No, this guy won't be a bitch ... he'll be making all the other inmates his bitch. He's happy to go to jail. Jail doesn't bother these people.

And that's what's wrong with our legal system. This guy isn't just a danger to all civilized members of society ... he's a danger to every human being on Earth.

It is INHUMAN to place this person amongst other people and it is a violation of the OTHER INMATES' civil rights that this judge has put this killer and predator in their midst.

The other prisoners have the right to serve their time free from the predation they will suffer at this scum's hands. The judge will have the blood of his future victims on his hands.

The judge should have ordered this scum be held in isolation for the rest of his natural life - to prevent him being a danger to the other inmates he will now be completely free to victimize with no further penalty.

PaulV म्हणाले...

When George Allen was governor of VA parole was abolished with inmates required to serve 85% oftime to much gnashing of teeth.
Now the problem is prisons have to close due to lack of inmates. Often a defendent is sentenced for crimes committed before reform of parole and people are upset that he is able to get out so early

Just hearing the words Cheech & Chong cracks me up. Their movies were hilarious even though I was nota pothead.

One of the funniest vignettes was a spoof game show called "let's make a dope deal". Pure funny stuff.

On a serious note, I think we need two types of prisons [the dungeon Ben Hur kind and one for just plain dumbasses who are pretty harmless].

2yellowdogs म्हणाले...

I'm fairly sure he'll be doing all of the dick sucking in the big house. As others have said, it's a shame it will be at our expense. That this cold-blooded killer wasn't sentenced to death is a travesty.

seems to me the commentariat are limp wristed pansies when it comes to appropriate punishment: hanging drawing and quartering in times square is the only way to go--when the punishment is horrific, it might make an impression; but even if it doesnt, it makes for grand spectacle--see for a review of the punishment Mr Pepys diary when he want down to charing cross to see the execution (by HDQ) of Major General Harrison--one of the regicides.

What most people don't want to hear is that our behavior is dictated by our goals, whether or not those goals are buried in our mind or written down on a piece of paper. It may not be a goal to go to prison in the same way it would be for someone else to start saving toward a purchase, but the behavior that gets one in prison, knowing the possible outcomes, says that it doesn't matter to them.

Ditto. He went down as he saw fit - and the judge put him there without getting down in it with him - win/win!

Both showed the kind of integrity I want to see more of. Too many try to bullshit everybody once they're found out - when, based on their words and actions, it's perfectly obvious they're liars. (This is not a dig at Ann, but when have you heard an Obama voter admit they were hopelessly ill-informed? Or delusional? Or racist? When have you heard someone even entertain the idea? Ain't gonna happen - they'd rather pretend you're crazy and they were following a higher calling.)

Zaire? Perhaps he'll change his name to Congo.

NotWhoIUsedtoBe म्हणाले...

Here's me agreeing with Robert Cook. Prison reform is long overdue.

Punishment should be what the court sentences, not what we wink at.

Beldar म्हणाले...

My first thought upon reading this was: "I wonder if the penalties a judge can impose for contempt of court include can include a change in conditions of confinement?" Haven't come across that question or had occasion to look it up, but I'm thinking that's probably one of those "inherent powers of the court" sort of things.

There are indeed practical and wholly constitutional ways to punish even those serving life sentences.

Any bystanders who joined in Zaire's display of contempt could certainly stand a little jail time.

Doesn't anyone blame Zaire's mom for giving him that name?

The dirty little not-so-secret about our prisons is that they are hells on earth, where many inmates must endure rape, coerced sexual slavery, torture, beatings, and more on a prolonged basis.

This is true, but what's your proposed solution? I mean, the other dirty little secret about prisons is that most of the people in them are horrible little sociopaths who see nothing wrong with victimizing others.

If we lock them up separately they go insane from the solitude. If we lock them up together they victimize each other. If we let them out they victimize the rest of us. If we execute them we run the risk of killing the wrongly convicted. That's the reason we haven't reformed the prisons -- the alternatives to the current situation are either worse for the prisoners, worse for the law-abiding, or both.

The best solution I can offer is to start repealing a lot of the felonies we have on the books -- vice laws, drug laws, a lot of the white-collar crime laws, etc.
