I once had a commanding officer that I liked working for. He was a good man and a good leader. Then when he was relinquishing command he gave the customary speech and broke into tears.
I lost a lot of respect for him that day. Others thought it was "moving" but I thought it was pathetic. Feeling emotions is a good thing. Letting emotions control you is a bad thing.
I don't care for Cutler but to question his toughness is nonsense. The guy plays with type 1 diabetes and he has a crappy o line, so he gets rocked every game.
"Original Mike said... 'Ronnie Lott, the 49ers' Hall of Fame safety, once had part of a finger cut off during the game so he could continue playing.'
What???"
Well, it wasn't during a game...it was during the offseason. He had the tip of his pinky crushed, and the rehab from reconstruction would have taken longer than the rehab from just cutting it off. It also would have been likely to be reinjured. So, rather than miss part of the next season and risk future injury, he just had the end of the finger cut off.
Anyway, Cutler has an MCL tear, so...yeah...he was hurt. Doesn't excuse his personality.
ESPN Sports was not so kind, on the radio....as former NFL PLAYERS commented...he had no crutches, no ice, was STANDING, on the kneee during the game....it's pro Football, you play hurt.
A torn MCL doesn't really affect your ability to stand/walk, you don't even need crutches. It just kills your ability to plant your leg and thrown the ball, which was obvious when Cutler couldn't complete a pass to a guy 6 yards away to start the second half.
Althouse appears to identify football with masculinity, and seems uncharacteristically willing to cede football as a masculine province.
I noticed her quote from last night.
Meade announces that we're for the Jets, because we want the Super Bowl to be the two 6 seeds who beat the #1 teams.
"Meade announces that we're for..." anything?
Meade, I suggest you try to push the boundaries on that one! ;)
PS
Althouse, I know what you are really doing, because I do it myself. I enjoy watching individual games, but I stopped following professional sports a long time ago.
What I've noticed is that when I'm watching a game with other guys who do follow sports, and I need to ask them to explain the backstory about a player or team, it makes them feel knowledgable and, perceptibly, more masculine.
@KLDAVIS: Thanks for the explanation. That is quite a bit different. I had this vision of two lineman holding Lott down on the sidelines while a third player whacked away with a meat cleaver.
I had a football coach who wisely said that it's important to recognize the difference between pain, which you play through, and injury, which you don't.
I've heard and read that Cutler is injured and was appropriately pulled. The perception he created during the game, however, by walking around, riding the stationary bike, and pouting on the bench wrapped in his Snuggie, was that he COULD play but just didn't want to.
As a Broncos fan there's no love lost for Jay Cutler but this questioning of whether he was really hurt is absurd. He has many faults, including wanting to do too much (i.e. don't throw that pass!!), but not playing with pain and injury isn't one of them.
And as far as I know he's never been charged with rape.
"Unfamiliarity with the new QB would be my guess."
Caleb could scramble. Same thing happened to the Packers when they played the Eagles the first time. They didn't prep for Vick and when he came in, he almost beat them. The second time they played Vick they were prepared for him.
What you saw on the first drive of the game against Chicago (and the entire game against Atlanta) is what you should expect to see for the entire game in Dallas. The Bears didn't play better defense after the first drive, Rodgers physically got cold. The one trick of Favre's that the Cali boy hasn't learned yet is how to deal with the elements. Thankfully, the Super Bowl won't present any of those challenges.
He was toughened up back when he was living in Hooterville. Unless you mean Mr. Hanie. He was toughened up by being teased while growing up ("Hey Mr. Hanie, how're things in Hooterville?").
Do you remember the Sports Psychologist that helped Braves pitcher John Smoltz? Cutler is in need of one of those. His feelings of rejection are making too many of the decisions that his will to win needs to be making.
After the game, Brian Urlacher said Cutler was tough. Urlacher defines tough. I'm not going to question him.
The quarterback on my son's high school football team tore his MCL last season and this season. You can't play on it. You're leg becomes useless. You can't run or put any pressure on it when you try to throw. On the positive side, if it's not too bad, it'll heal 100% without surgery.
Cutler cried because the other boys were being mean to him. Right?
Assholes would be a better word to describe them.
Pro footballs players get the shit beat out of them, especially QBs that have to take shots while trying to throw the ball. Everytime they step onto the field they risk career ending injuries. Cutler just got the shit knocked out of him several times, suffered a potential career ending injury, and lost the biggest game of his career. I bet there were guys with tears in their eyes who weren't injured.
Don't know why he cried. But I've seen him play. Takes a solid hit (lotta solid hits), shakes it off, proceeds. Also has a tendency to drive forward for more yardage, rather than bail out in a slide.
My guess is that it's simple. His knee was wobbling around, didn't hurt, but he could not play effectively. I suspect he was the most miserable guy on the sideline.
I did. I'm weirdly superstitious about where I watch a game. If I watch the game at a buddies, and they lose, I wonder if they would have lost if I had watched it at home.
I don't see why he wouldn't be genuinely hurt. After being sidelined with potentially career ending injury which at the very least would make it impossible to finish the game, and having to deal with the disappointment of him failing his teammates he is then told that he took a dive. I can see why he'd be hurt.
His injury was not the problem. It was his utter inability to understand the importance of proper sideline theatrics that really did him in. I actually feel sorry for the guy.
You know, I don't question his toughness. I don't question that he was too injured to play. But he wasn't to injured to help his team in other ways - talking to the backup QBs, helping the coach, hell, even just cheering up the other players still in the game - and he didn't. He sat on the bench and sulked like a baby. He deserves criticism for that.
Wow, Mike Shmidt cried? He CRIED?!? He should be tarred and feathered and booted out of Cooperstown for being a fag. Seriously, lets have some people criticizing Shmidt for crying put up his numbers. If they can't do it then shut the fuck up.
It's a different sport but one of the crew on my racing sailboat had his fingertip pinched off when he got it in the spinnaker pole socket. He wrapped his finger with duct tape until the race was over and then I sewed the tip back on at yacht club. After a couple of margaritas, it didn't even hurt although I did use some local. It healed.
I haven't been impressed with Cutler except for one game. That's nothing new with the Bears. They haven't had a good QB since McMahon.
rd: Bradshaw's record in picking the winning team on the pregame show is bad. For example, he picked the Bears to win yesterday. Last week, he picked the Falcons.
Watch the Super Bowl pregame. Bet against Terry's pick. It's money in the bank.
Ive seen the Chicago fan boards and all the former athletes claiming its no big deal to play on a bad knee.
It's amazing how tough you can be when not on the field. The QB on my son's team couldn't walk, let alone play. And, he's a big, tough kid. Bigger and, I bet stronger, than Cutler actually.
At the UW hockey game Saturday night, one of the video cameras that they put up on the big scoreboard zoomed in on a guy wearing a green and gold sweater. It said, "There is no crying in football". In smaller letter underneath it said "Except in Chicago."
Take a lot of courage to take yourself out of championshipship game even when you know that if you play you hurt the team. Bears need mobile QB to have chance. Culter is a man.
Cutler's a sourpuss but he's not a coward. The idea that he quit is ridiculous. No wonder tears "welled up." He just had to leave the most important game of his life because of an injury, his team lost and now a bunch of second rate journalists and idiot players (not of which got THEIR teams to the championship game) are suggesting that he is a quitter.
Adlai Stevenson told this story in his nationally-televised concession speech after the 1952 presidential election: “Someone asked me, as I came in, down on the street, how I felt, and I was reminded of a story that a fellow-townsman of ours used to tell—Abraham Lincoln. They asked him how he felt once after an unsuccessful election. He said that he was too old to cry, but it hurt too much to laugh.”
So what others say or do can hurt. So what....he isn't alone.
Yes, if you look at any of the recaps of the game they'll talk about how the Packer offense "cooled off" after the opening drive. I don't think they understand how right they are. Rodgers is a metaphorical monster when he's playing indoors. Most people don't understand that he's nothing like Favre was in the cold. He hates it. But, since he's the QB from Green Bay, he must be a cold weather guy...simply not so.
wv: ingrant. InGrant, we trusted, but with Kuhn we'll win.
Cutler was unable to play because of a bad injury - he probably should have done what other starters do after they get hurt though - and that is to pick up a clipboard and emote interest. Still, why act? I'm sure he was pissed he was out of the game - these guys are competitors at the highest level. He cried because he was hurt by his peers' inane judgment; even men shed tears at times. York, I think you should sew a Brockington jersey yourself...#42.
As far as looks are concerned, I prefer their whites. However, I believe they lost to Denver while wearing white while beating the Pats wearing green. So green it should be.
I agree Rodgers in probably better indoors, but he was 7-3 with 25 tds/5 ints below 30 degrees heading into yesterdays game.
Favre lost the championship game to the Giants they should never have lost in 2007, in Lambeau. That game, and an earlier game in Chicago with ridiculous winds, it was obvious Favre just packed it in.
I'm with Skyler in thinking it's just a game, but the idea that men are some feminist's idea of an inhuman automaton "only looking for one thing" is disgusting.
I agree that Favre's prowess in cold weather is overstated. Especially as he aged. But, it's part of the zeitgeist now.
I was at the -30° WC, NFC Championship game (Favre's last game, or so I'll tell my grandchildren...) Favre never should have gone on the field. He couldn't wait to get back to the sideline after ever series. I was also at the game in Dallas a months earlier when he got knocked out with a separated shoulder. Rodgers came in and nearly brought them back against a very tough Cowboys team. From that moment I knew he was going to be an amazing player, and to this day I believe that if Favre hadn't come back from that injury the Packers would have at least one more Super Bowl title.
Mike, Jerry Jones would be even more peeved at the Steelers winning than the Pack...the Cowboys are chasing (1 behind) the Steelers for most Super Bowl wins.
" . . . it was obvious Favre just packed it in . . ."
Garage, you even a fool about football. Favre did not pack it in during that game. He played poorly, made mistakes, showed his age, but pack it in? These guys do not get where they are by packing it in.
See KLMDAVIS @ 2:32. He was there. You could see that ridiculous interception he threw to lose the game, and his body language, that he just was not in that game for whatever reason.
Well, the initially reported MCL "tear" has been downgraded to a "sprain". Lovie says Jay would have been questionable for the Super Bowl had they advanced...I think he's trying to make it sound worse that it was.
I'm also a superstitious fan, but having been to the Blackhawks game earlier in the day I was wearing my red Green Bay hat instead of the green I was wearing the last 4 weeks. Now I am completely lost as to which hat to wear in two weeks...help!
I think most of the bad reaction was a result of a couple of TV shots that really made Cutler look like he was oblivious. They keep showing one where Collins is sitting next to him studying some photos and Cutler is just sitting there staring off into space like he didn't care.
We heard a lot of stuff like this about Hasselbeck here in Seattle, until they got an O line that could actually protect him, then he started doing well. Chicago's problems are a lot deeper than a QB.
Maybe But I'm 5-0 sticking to my regimen in the Man Cave. I was thinking more of a Road Warrior status wearing road colors, seeing as they just won 3 on the road, not superstition.
"I'm also a superstitious fan, but having been to the Blackhawks game earlier in the day I was wearing my red Green Bay hat instead of the green I was wearing the last 4 weeks. Now I am completely lost as to which hat to wear in two weeks...help!"
Crying when you win is entirely different from losing and then letting the other side make you cry. Never whine, never whimper, never cry. Unless you win. If you win, you can cry all you want.
I just got a tweet from my football buddies, the Packers and the Steelers both have no cheerleaders, and this is a first for a Super Bowl?
Sports Talk radio was loaded with Cutler talk this morning. I saw the game and he looked weird for an injured guy. But look. These guys put their whole lives into being there for that game. Most of them will never get another opportunity to play in a championship game. If he could have played, I have to think he would have.
Drew Brees had a torn MCL for six games in the first half of the season and didn't miss a snap.
Cutler's might be much worse, but it's hard not to speculate whether he looked at that 14-0 and wondered if it was worth it to play injured and almost certainly lose anyway. I think there was some cost-benefit analysis going on.
The Packers didn't win because Cutler got hurt and then moped and cried. Packers won because they're the better team. Rodgers is the better QB. He got his bell rung when he took a dirty hit. He didn't cry - he battled.
Packers should wear their home colors because they're the home team. Don't go and beta male and allow the Steelers to wear black - their big bad Steeler black. We know you're a bunch of dirty dirt bags - rapists and thugs. Now put on your white jerseys, bitches, so we can beat you every which way from Sunday.
"We know you're a bunch of dirty dirt bags - rapists and thugs. Now put on your white jerseys, bitches, so we can beat you every which way from Sunday."
Somebody put a stick in Original Mike's mouth so he doesn't swallow his tongue.
Just like we had to do for Mr. York 4 years ago when he missed the team bus and the Giants were forced to replace him at QB with that little kid. Eli something or other.
It's enough to make a grown man cry.
And he did.
So fucking what.
Indeed.
Three more things - I'm done with the crying shit:
1) Trooper's right: Steelers will win it. They're the Packers plus brains.
2) Superstition IS for wusses. What color they wear doesn't matter, whether they come to play ball does.
3) If we ARE going to be superstitious, then Original Mike is wrong:
Only one thing to do. You must shave your head.
He left out a tattoo. You gotta get a tattoo. It's what makes all the difference. And a big one. On your chest. And it's gotta say "Grammy Mammy Sammy Black".
Also, I don't give a hoo ha that Cutler cried. I'm sure the Packers have made many opponents cry this season.
Hey, at least Collins, when he was benched for Mr. Hanie, studied the playbook and tried to help his team in any way he could. Cutler could have at least faked it and kept his game face on. You're the quarterback, man - inspire confidence in your teammates, BELIEVE in them, make them WANT to stop, score, come back, and WIN!
Sofa King said... You know, I don't question his toughness. I don't question that he was too injured to play. I don't think at that point in the game the Bears were looking for Cutler's insights on how to attack the Packers defense.
Interesting stat: The Packers were never behind more than 7 points at any point in a game during the regular season [and playoffs]. Never been done before.
Also, garage, in the National Football Conference Championship game, except for the first 4 minutes and 10 seconds, the Bears were never behind by fewer than 7 points.
Meade says: "Packers should wear their home colors because they're the home team. Don't go and beta male and allow the Steelers to wear black - their big bad Steeler black. We know you're a bunch of dirty dirt bags - rapists and thugs. Now put on your white jerseys, bitches, so we can beat you every which way from Sunday."
I agree! The green tops are more dominant. You're the "home" team, be the home team. Being wistful for white is candyass. I like the other team in white, because, you know what? When you bleed, it shows through. This is something women know! Yesterday, Cutler had a bleeding elbow, which was quite visible. Next thing you know, he's out of the game and leaking additional bodily fluids (AKA tears).
I will be sitting in back of the store wearing my John Brockington jersey and my green costume knickers with a big piece of provolone on my head as I root for those warriors from the frozen tundra.
Did I tell you lately that the Packers are gonna win the Super Bowl?
Phil 3:14 said... PS John Elway demonstrated how an old quarterback should retire. Too bad Brett wasn't listening.
Not so sure about that. Favre was making about $20 million. At the stage in his career when Elway was making bad investments that cost him at least that much.
One thing I've always noticed about those who have never played the game and who don't know what they're talking about- they obsess over body language and how players act on the bench or the sidelines. Nonsence.
I'm sure it made a big difference to Peppers and Urlacher whether Cutler had "his game face" on or not.
Trooper, I'll be sure to have a little fun and make a "sausage fest" joke. The other gals will get a laugh from that; I don't hang with humorless people.

Geez. Unprofessional and unmanly. I hope he can live it down.
It might be a big game, but it's only a game. With a lot of money involved.
I never cared one way or the other when I did sports.
"Ronnie Lott, the 49ers' Hall of Fame safety, once had part of a finger cut off during the game so he could continue playing."
What???
I'll question Cutler's toughness right after I've faced down Clay Matthews coming at me like a bat out of hell.
Did Lott get kidney damage from taking too much ibuprofen?
Hey, Roethlisberger cried too.
You're making something out of nothing, Althouse.
This has been standard stuff in sports my entire life. Winning (or losing) in the big championship game isn't just about playing sports.
It's about achieving the great dream handed down from father to son.
Haven't you seen The Natural?
This has nothing to do with feminism or sex roles, try as you might.
Pretty weak to question whether a guy is hurt. It's not your knee, how would you know how bad it is?
I once had a commanding officer that I liked working for. He was a good man and a good leader. Then when he was relinquishing command he gave the customary speech and broke into tears.

Cutler again looked hopelessly lost against Green Bay's defense. I was wondering if he didn't just get benched.
Another Colosseum crowd has turned their thumbs down on a gladiator who quit in the fight. We want some blood. Oops, that sounds bad.

And as far as I know he's never been charged with rape.
Neither has he completed a crucial third an d 6 play that will send his team to the Super bowl.
PS Glad the Packers won but what happened to Aaron Rodgers in the second half? He looked more like Mr. Rogers out there!
"Winning (or losing) in the big championship game isn't just about playing sports."
Are you familiar with the reason Cutler cried? It's not about losing the game.
"...looked hopelessly lost against Green Bay's defense."
Why was Mr. Haney able to deal with it?
After the Super Bowl, there'll be a lot of rusty tears flowing down the Steelers faces.
garage, did you watch the game in the man cave?
If he had a torn ligament wasn't it stupid of the coach to let him play even one play in the third quarter? Well, that's my unprofessional opinion.
Meade,
Get The Althouse Woman to secure a couple of tickets to watch the Badgers play football. I'll think she'll enjoy it.
Unfamiliarity with the new QB would be my guess. And, he did throw two interceptions.
The QB woes continue for Chicago. That's the story.

There's someone in front of you who desperately needs to have the shi*t beat out of him, and it's illegal to do it in front of witnesses.

Please don't go anywhere else for the Super Bowl..
I know right. We usually have a Super Bowl party at my friends place. I'm not sure I can test fate at this point though.
We're watching the Super Bowl the same place we watched yesterday's game. If the Packers lose, it won't be my fault.
Speaking about losers from Chi-town, that is what today's theme is right?

Long before Cutler went to his knee, it was apparent he wanted to be somewhere else. Like sitting in front of a fireplace doing his nails.
God, it was so obvious.

Jets coach also cries:

I blame the coach. He should've "rested" (benched) Cutler from the get-go - because he couldn't hit a barn with a freakin' football.
A lot of other crying athletes:

No, it seems to be violence.
Cutler is one of the worst QB's this league has ever seen. The kid is an idiot.
Hey does anyone know where I can get a John Brockington jersey?
I want to be ready to root my heart out for the Pack?
Did I tell you lately that the Packers are gonna win the Super Bowl?
Na, na, na - can't hear you.
Somebody get those paddles for Orginal Mike.
You know the one to restart his Green Bay Packer heart.
Terry Bradshaw always picks the losers. Bradshaw will surely pick the Steelers.
O Mike
You sayin that Bradshaw was picking against himself in all those big games he won?
Hope he wasn't betting.
Just sayin.
Mr Hanie had the benefit of facing a defense trying to keep a lead not one trying to win.
Hey Rex Ryan just had a press conferance and started crying.
But I think it was because his wife got a bunion.
Ya want tough? Google "Bob Baun broken leg".
Rex Ryan once sucked off Ronnie Lotts little toe so he could play in the playoff game back in the 1980's.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Mike
Just jokin around. Bradshaw a bit of a dufus, but a hell of a thrower in his day.
I noticed most of the player tweets ripping Cutler came from Arizona and Seattle. Please.
NFC is the home team in the Super Bowl this year, which means GB gets to pick home or away jerseys. Wonder if they'll stick with road uni's?
"Wonder if they'll stick with road uni's?"
I think I would.
The concept that a man shouldn't cry is a truly lame and stupid one.
"Wonder if they'll stick with road uni's?"
This is a costume question. Surely Althouse has an opinion.
Road costume-knickers then?
At the UW hockey game Saturday night, one of the video cameras that they put up on the big scoreboard zoomed in on a guy wearing a green and gold sweater. It said, "There is no crying in football". In smaller letter underneath it said "Except in Chicago."
Take a lot of courage to take yourself out of championshipship game even when you know that if you play you hurt the team. Bears need mobile QB to have chance. Culter is a man.
WV: inear. Cutler bashers, take it inear.
Garage, out of personal preference, I'd rather them go with the green.
Trooper - wish I could help you out with that Brockington jersey - had on as a kid, but it's long gone.
As for Cutler, clearly he was hurt, but his leadership skills after the fact, really sucked.
I think the Pack is really looking forward to playing inside. Watch for Rodgers to throw, throw, throw.
WV: jolxpolo
A sport played on horses.
Well howabout a cheesehead hat?
I prefer provolone if it is available. Just sayn'
This Packer fan sez:
Cutler's a sourpuss but he's not a coward. The idea that he quit is ridiculous. No wonder tears "welled up." He just had to leave the most important game of his life because of an injury, his team lost and now a bunch of second rate journalists and idiot players (not of which got THEIR teams to the championship game) are suggesting that he is a quitter.
It's enough to make a grown man cry.
And he did.
So fucking what.
"Cutler cried because the other boys were being mean to him. Right?"
Ever consider that she was provoking us with that comment? It seems unAlthousian to have jumped to that conclusion.
Rodgers physically got cold.
As opposed to metaphorically?
I'll bet Nixon never cried.
Somebody tweeted a new nickname for BJ Raji. "Garaji". Haha.
Garage, out of personal preference, I'd rather them go with the green.
I think I'm with Original Mike on this one. White has been working. Stick with it.
" Phil 3:14 said...

"Most people don't understand that he's nothing like Favre was in the cold."
I think Favre's reputation for cold weather performances does not match the reality.
I'm very pleased Rodgers and crew will be playing in a climte controlled facility. Though Jerry Jones may "forget" to turn the heat on.
Fuck, what's wrong with you - men can cry.
I'm with Skyler in thinking it's just a game, but the idea that men are some feminist's idea of an inhuman automaton "only looking for one thing" is disgusting.
That you highlighted this is shameful.
I'm sure the weather had an impact on the passing game. The Bear defense also managed a few hits on Rodgers. Most notably the h-2-h by Peppers.
Mike & Garage,
I agree that Favre's prowess in cold weather is overstated.
I think Cutler is an average QB at best but I saw no reason to question his toughness re the injury.
How about some CIVILITY NOW for christsakes!
Mike, Jerry Jones would be even more peeved at the Steelers winning than the Pack...the Cowboys are chasing (1 behind) the Steelers for most Super Bowl wins.
"I agree Rodgers in probably better indoors, but he was 7-3 with 25 tds/5 ints below 30 degrees heading into yesterdays game.
But 30 is not cold. I'd say cold starts at 10. 20 with a wind.
I wonder if Jones even shows up.
Though somebody needs to be there to count his money.
" . . . it was obvious Favre just packed it in . . ."
Garage, you even a fool about football. Favre did not pack it in during that game. He played poorly, made mistakes, showed his age, but pack it in? These guys do not get where they are by packing it in.
Favre did not pack it in during that game
See KLMDAVIS @ 2:32. He was there. You could see that ridiculous interception he threw to lose the game, and his body language, that he just was not in that game for whatever reason.
I think I'm with Original Mike on this one. White has been working. Stick with it.
Absolutely not. You're the home team. Wear your home colors.
Superstition is for wusses. Manly men know that when you believe in things that you don't understand, then you suffer.
Plus, you know, Green Bay is pretty good.
Superstition is for wusses
Maybe
But I'm 5-0 sticking to my regimen in the Man Cave. I was thinking more of a Road Warrior status wearing road colors, seeing as they just won 3 on the road, not superstition.
"Manly men know that when you believe in things that you don't understand, then you suffer."
Under this principal, the only thing I'd believe in is lunch.
"I was thinking more of a Road Warrior status wearing road colors"
Yeah. It's a statement to the Steelers; "we're the sixth seed, and we're here to whup your ass."
Civility week is over, right?
"I'm also a superstitious fan, but having been to the Blackhawks game earlier in the day I was wearing my red Green Bay hat instead of the green I was wearing the last 4 weeks. Now I am completely lost as to which hat to wear in two weeks...help!"
Only one thing to do. You must shave your head.
There's no crying in football. end. of. story.
Okay this is scary: wv= passes
Point of order...you can cry after you win whatever the biggest game in your league is, but only if it was close or you came back from behind.
Well, when you put it that way ...
Drew Brees is a god.
But Aaron Rodgers will make Steelers cry.
They've been on the road, hence the road whites. I'm still with the green - they're the home team.
Preach it brother Meade.
Did I tell you lately that the Packers are gonna win the Super Bowl?
Somebody put a stick in Original Mike's mouth so he doesn't swallow
his tongue.
k*thy has the right idea. Come on guys, fall in behind k*thy. Besides, Packers are 7-1 in green. 6-5 in white.
Make Steelers wear white so we can see every dirty little trick they try to get away with.
Your Steelers are going down, Trooper.
Somebody put a stick in Original Mike's mouth so he doesn't swallow
his tongue.
Just like we had to do for Mr. York 4 years ago when he missed the team bus and the Giants were forced to replace him at QB with that little kid. Eli something or other.
What a Super Bowl that was!
Cutler is one of the worst QB's this league has ever seen. The kid is an idiot.
You are so right. He only got his team to within one game of the Super Bowl.
(eyeroll)
Stop this mistweetment of Jay.
I'm with David:

Trust me, I know these things.
k*thy has the right idea. Come on guys, fall in behind k*thy. Besides, Packers are 7-1 in green. 6-5 in white.
Okay fine!
"You gotta get a tattoo. It's what makes all the difference. And a big one. On your chest. And it's gotta say "Grammy Mammy Sammy Black"."
There you go, man. Now you know what ya gotta do if you want the Packers to win. We're all counting on you.
Three more things - I'm done with the crying shit
Well it's about damn time.
Loser.
I agree. Cutler was emitting negative vibes. I think that hurt the other Bears's feelings.
It hurt their self-esteem.
Yeah. It's a wonder they ALL didn't start crying.
Sofa King said...
You know, I don't question his toughness. I don't question that he was too injured to play. But he wasn't to injured to help his team in other ways - talking to the backup QBs, helping the coach, hell, even just cheering up the other players still in the game - and he didn't. He sat on the bench and sulked like a baby. He deserves criticism for that.
Exactly.
I don't think at that point in the game the Bears were looking for Cutler's insights on how to attack the Packers defense.
Interesting stat: The Packers were never behind more than 7 points at any point in a game during the regular season [and playoffs]. Never been done before.
First Beck. Then Boehner. Now Cutler. What's the world coming to.
Wow. The Althouse Sports Woman. Who knew?
If you win, you can cry all you want.
And my favorite Packer Super Bowl memory
PS John Elway demonstrated how an old quarterback should retire. Too bad Brett wasn't listening.
Tell Dixie to get Johnny Gage and DeSoto on the radio.
I think Original Mike is in some distress.
Eeek! I just saw a tape of Mark Sanchez tearing up after his loss in yesterday's game. Let's pulverize him.

Not so sure about that. Favre was making about $20 million. At the stage in his career when Elway was making bad investments that cost him at least that much.
We'll be watching with friends from Madison, and one from PA, so it should be fun.
A selection of Wisconsin sausages has been ordered and should arrive any day. There will be good food, good beer, and a great game.
Geaux Packers!
The Packers twitter says McCarthy said they are wearing their home (green) jerseys in Dallas.
Good. Obviously, we're not the only ones who read this blog.

What the fuck? Beth hanging out at a sausage fest?
It is a sign of the end of times.
Next thing you know Titus is gonna come by and tell us he plans to bury his nose in a fish taco.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
"Why was Mr. Haney able to deal with it?"
He threw two interceptions in less than 5 minutes. That's "dealing with it"?
@Beth: That's what we're having for the Super Bowl. Brats.
Geaux, Pack, Geaux!
One thing I've always noticed about those who have never played the game and who don't know what they're talking about- they obsess over body language and how players act on the bench or the sidelines. Nonsence.
I'm sure it made a big difference to Peppers and Urlacher whether Cutler had "his game face" on or not.
John Brockington. If you know who he is - AARP gives you an automatic membership.
And George Patton and Vince Lombardi cried like babies. You know who never cried? Hitler.
John Brockington is from Brooklyn. I know his auntie.
Although I think she has passed. But a wonderful lady.
John Brockington was a great Buckeye and Packer but even greater than John Brockington was Diane Scott.
If he hadn't been injured, Haney wouldn't have come in and scored their only points.
Trooper, I'll be sure to have a little fun and make a "sausage fest" joke. The other gals will get a laugh from that; I don't hang with humorless people.
Someone said it looked like he hurt his vagina.
I know absolutely nothing about football or anatomy, so I'm just passin' on what someone else said.
Old People remember John Brockington - but real Packer fans remember MacArthur Lane.
Hey I am sure they are a lot of fun Beth. They are not humor less.
Just sausage less.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I remember him, that was tragic how he died when they left him out in the park in the rain. Tragic.
Were y'all watching the game or the sidelines yesterday?
Could they have edited the broadcast to make him look aloof?
