"Cheney's heart transplant. Wouldn't that be the worst day ever? Not only are you dead but they've given your heart to THAT prick!"

A comment on Facebook (from one of my friends) on this article.

Where's the "civility bullshit" tag?

That prick public servant who's kept your dumb ass and the country safe by advocating policies you're too stupid to appreciate.

What a fucking loser.

And BTW - nice friends you got there, Ann.

This is the kind of stuff I feared when Bush was President. If, God forbid, he or Cheney got killed, I guarantee there would be idiots who celebrated in the real or virtual streets. What do you do then? Do you punch them in the face? What if they're your friend?

How did people react to all of the "I wish Palin were dead" remarks from last week on Twitter/FB/etc.

SteveR said...

Plenty of folks like Cheney, and he gets extra points for telling Leahy FU.

But remember, only conservatives engage in heated rhetoric.

You were dead, you were sleeping the big sleep, you were not bothered by things like that, oil and water were the same as wind and air to you. You just slept the big sleep, not caring about the nastiness of how you died or where you fell. Me, I was part of the nastiness now.

Just part of the famed compassion of the Left...

And lo, all the hearts from Hooville Hospital would not work--for Cheney had a heart that was three sizes too small.

Stack Cheney up against Gore and Biden and what do you get?

Yeah....

Come on - It is a funny juxtaposition. Well thought out joke & punch line. And it's interchangeable - could be used on whichevrr party you hate.

People can be such assholes. Civility is just a one way street.

I heard that Marilyn Monroe made some awful friends during her ascent.

You should encourage your friend to comment here. Now. Today

OK if it was a joke then they should definitely comment here.

If I had a friend (FB or otherwise) who said that I would dump them quick. Fortunately I would never have a friend like that so . . .

My neighbor has a donor heart. Right before a Labor Day weekend his doctor told him to stay close to the phone, because somebody was sure to wreck their motorcycle over the holiday. That's exactly what happened. New ticker!

Hey Ann, would you be so kind as to tell us who your friend is, so I can with as much civility I can muster, tell him to go fuck himself?

I was having a beer at a venue I used to play music at frequently, the day Jerry Falwell died. One of the regulars, and a musician I knew walked in with a cake he baked in celebration of Jerry Falwell's death.

I didn't take the offered piece. I regret now that I didn't take the whole cake and dump it in the trash.

The man who baked the cake was a friend, and a very nice, sweet man. But with a very big moral blind spot, as is common among liberals.

He died of lung cancer a short time later. That was one of the last times I saw him.

I miss him.

But I should have pissed him off over that cake.

Still able to hate from beyond the grave?

Impressive.

A lifetime of hate just isn't enough for some on the left.

When I saw the interview I couldn't help but imagine all the lefties that will undoubtedly cheer when Dick Cheney passes.

Civility indeed.

Blackhearts, every one of them.

I'd say you have lousy taste in friends, but most of my friends would be happy to retell that joke too. That's what happens when you're surrounded by liberals; if you want to have friends, they're the only raw material available.

Count this as proof of how the word "friend" has been cheapened by Facebook.

Bill Frist could pop one in Dick's chest before you could say jack robin!! Dick Cheney is as real as they come, an actual grown up in a world of brats and babies.

And yet, Obama ends up adopting half these policies in his continuance of his war on terror. And yet, whereas these policies made Cheney Darth Vader and the Emperor rolled into one, under Obama these policies are not even worth mentioning. Policies are only negative if they cause embarrasment to those in the wrong party. The same policies in Obama's hands and it's turkey with gravy.

The two minutes of Cheney hate aside, let me say technology sometimes sneaks up on you. I'm amazed a guy who has five heart attacks under his belt has the option of deciding whether or not he wants to "go for" a transplant.

In which Democrats reveal exactly how national health care would over time become grotesquely deformed by politics, payback, and petty grievances.

Humans being what they are, this sort of meanness and evil will work its way into the process. It's inevitable.

Cheney is a very interesting guy and never had the reputation of a hard line conservative until the Bush presidency. He is a very agile speaker and debater. In the biography of Cheney that I read, there was some discussion of the fact that Bush aides wanted him off TV because he is so calm and well spoken when Bush was somewhat awkward as a speaker. They did not want the contrast. Cheney is an example of walking, talking competence.

sakredkow said...

That's pretty funny. That's like something Mort Sahl would have said.

Dick Cheney, may he live forever, is the kind of leader we need. No more empathy, please. Governments don't have feelings. They have one obligation: to protect our lives, liberty and property rights, and require us to be responsible, so that a free society can prosper and remain healthy.

Considering what I've done to my body, I'd guess the only thing anyone would get from me would be my tendons, but even if it were Kim il Jong, I'd have to say, "My species, right or wrong."

Or in other words, let the ideas win or lose on their own merits. And if that goes over anyone's head, too bad.

JAL said...

Haha. And Rush Limbaugh should die too.

What is it with lefties?

Not for that, but I (almost) never check my facebook. I'm lucky if I can remember how to sign in.

If anyone said that I wouldn't even see it.

But then I have a confusing mixture of people on facebook who have no connection at all except a little string tied to a part of me that most of the others have no idea about.

But no one I can think of there would say that. I don't think.

Not looking.

{What is it about lefties? They are so middle school.}

Alex said...

May Darth Cheney live forever and haunt the souls of leftie ghouls FOREVER!

Rialby, there is a dark underbelly of unpleasantness to a lot of partisans. The worst really are full of passionate intensity.

When news broke that Paul Wellstone (and others) died in a plane crash, there were people who drove to his campaign office in order to taunt those who were gathering to pay their respects. Real classy.

Would that it were so, but I am certain that you will be able to find similar examples when either Vice President Cheney or President George W. Bush die.

Incivility will not go away.

Anonymous said...

But ... But "progressives" are entitled to say things like that, because they're ethically superior to the rest of us. They hold the moral high ground, and that's what gives them the right to rule. Just ask 'em, they'll tell you!

Cheney made the bad guys of the world nervous and poor sleepers. The lefties give them a good laugh as they fall to sleep dreaming of yet another way to weaken our way of life.

Perpetual adolescents such as the "...worst day ever" post are lost in the magnificence of themselves and their ego feeding loser friends.

Cheney is a leader. He also represents the father figure most of the left never had the benefit of.

So much for civility week.

Given how Cheney and Bush have been treated for the last decade, it is amazing that the likes of Paul Krugman can claim, with a straight face, that the hate comes predominately from the right.

Many of us who are conservative became that way after we had children. Who grew up to be liberal. Until they had kids.

From what I have seen and read, Mr. Cheney is a wonderful dad.

The Left seems to consist of a lot of pampered princesses, whose expectation of compromise is "Do what I want, slower than I want, but do what I want." They are blind to all the heated, hateful rhetoric they threw at G.W.Bush, but anybody who objects to Obama is racist, regardless of the reasons for objecting.

Eugene Robinson had this to say today "In the spirit of civil discourse, I'd like to humbly suggest that Sarah Palin please consider being quiet for a while. Perhaps a great while." He is neither humble nor civil, and just adds to the background noise, not to the debate.

Y'all notice how Cindy Sheehan is now a footnote in "anti-war protests under Bush"? When the pushing and shoving is done, many on the left will be disposed of, as once they were "useful idiots", then they will simply be "idiots". Nothing gracious is the way you will be dumped.

@Peter Koh:

As a lifelong Minnesotan, I call bullsh*t on people going to Wellstone's office and taunting people until I see proof. That's not how conservatives operate, and CERTAINLY not in a state where people are known for (at least their superficial) "niceness". We're just not that "in your face", preferring a more passive-aggressive approach.

Like, for instance, trying to hijack a dead Senator's memorial service and turn it into a political rally. I *can* prove that *that* happened, and it's very much in character for Minnesotans. I've no doubt something similar could have happened if it had been a GOP senator, too...but it was exceptionally disgusting that it was Wellstone, given that he, while entirely misguided, was probably the only senator in the country who actually meant most of what he said.

And yet, Obama ends up adopting half these policies in his continuance of his war on terror.

New York, on a weekend day during the Dubya years, was filled with various street corner protests such as the anti-war grannies.

Where did they go? What changed? We are still in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Why do I have to go to the Google Account page, now daily, to reset my password?
