Hey I know that pose. I recognize the field, which you can see from the Capitol. Looking back from the Capitol (or some of the University buildings) you can see a little notch which is Old Sauk Road as it crests the hill to the left of where you were standing in that photo. The land/estate was privately owned up until the 1970's. I dated a girl who grew up around there and used to play on the farm.
Did you find the suicide ski run with the skimpy bridge?
I recall skiing there once during a heavy snowstorm. Of course there was that dead silence unique to snowstorms and it was almost dark. At the bottom of the park, on the left, was a group of trees surrounding the trail that made sort of a tunnel as I glided around to the right clockwise. The trees were so laden with new snow that I had to lean around the boughs going through to avoid getting a faceful of snow.

In the distance was the town
With its promise of warm commerce.
In the foreground stood the tree,
Its branches a latticed verse.
For relieving the emptiness curse
Neither is better, neither is worse.
ricpic, is that you or Emerson?
Owen Park, nicely groomed for skiing.
Owen Park, so slick and steep it scared the bejeezus out of me.
Me.
*dusts snow off of bejeezus*
Here, did you lose this?
We can't see you out skiing. But we know that you are there.
Austere. Is that East Berlin?

And of course I was cutting a new trail.
Another Althouse Christmas card.
Very nice.
