We had a small Christmas miracle last night, at our family party, our house decorated and warm and dressed in 30 inches of snow.
My in-laws, angry at some odd slight no one quite understood, having fired the family from Christmas this year, had wanted nothing to do with any of us.
But they came. and conversation was light and pleasant.
I hope they continue to forgive and be forgiven.
A most blessed Yule to Althouse and Meade and all the regular hillbillies here.
[Police investigator Joao] Brito would not speculate on a possible motive, saying family members were in shock and he had not interviewed them yet.
I can tell you exactly what happened. Bride and best man were doing the hokey pokey, groom found out about it and picked his spot for the ultimate revenge. That's the only explanation that makes sense and fits in with the Latino macho sensibility.
My brother sent me 91 cents for Christmas. Before you think he's a cheapskate, though, I should mention that it was a 1960 proof set from the Philadelphia mint -- penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar. I thought it was an eclectic gift idea.
A friend asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I mentioned a couple of CDs as possibilities: The eponymous debut by The Secret Sisters and The Meat Purveyors' 2004 album Pain By Numbers. I told her that either would be okay, but she sent both. Interestingly, out of the total of 25 songs, they share one in common: Covers of Bill Monroe's "The One I Love Is Gone." Small world, isn't it?
A Merry Christmas to you and your inamorato, Signora.
Pogo, I've always said Christmas isn't just for kids. Glad for your miracle.

I would like to take this time to wish a Merry Christmas to all of our troops. Especially those overseas and in harms way.
Second that.
PS Sherlock got a brand new harness - the one he had was chewed so badly from his puppy days, it was barely hanging on him. So he gives me a look like, "You know, this is still perfectly good...".
Stayed at son's place last night. We woke at 5, and then again at 6, and finally went down to make the coffee at 7. It felt like being a child again, sharing memories triggered by watching the wide eyed innocence and love of a 1 and a 3.5 year old. May all the years to come be as blessed as was this one moment in time.
We had a Christmas miracle similar to Pogo's. Two grandparents, divorced for some thirty-five years (or more? I wasn't going to ask.), were both in attendance at the family Christmas celebration.
My brother and I had never before seen them in the same room. Totally unprecedented in our lifetimes.
They got along well, and even presented a united front in bossing around their middle aged children. It was great.
The first Christmas after a family friend divorced after 20+ years of marriage, her widowed mother-in-law attended the wife's family Christmas Eve gathering as usual.

Very festive. Merry Christmas!
On a slightly less cheery note, I read this story from Brazil and I thought of Crack Emcee because it embodied a REAL "Macho Response":
Man Shoots Self, Best Man, New Wife at Wedding
The story says:
[Police investigator Joao] Brito would not speculate on a possible motive, saying family members were in shock and he had not interviewed them yet.

Present opened.
Unwrapping is all the fun.

From the fringes of the commentariat, Merry Christmas to all.
Yes, Merry Christmas to you and yours!
And a very Merry Christmas to you, Professor and Meade.

PPS Lovely tree, Madame.
Merry Christmas to all. It just started snowing in upstate South Carolina--White Christmas--1st in over 40 years.
Merry Christmas to everybody!
Here's the gift I made (stayed up all night: nightmares again) seriously:
You've got to click the links to "get" it, though I think the regulars understand already.
Stay warm!
Clyde,
Man, there's something about weddings,...
The miracle of the sheep happened again except bigger this time.

A Christmas tail of a lost rare Clumber!

Does your dog extract the squeaker? The collateral damage to your dog's toys looks about the same as ours.

"Well" She said "I didn't divorce anyone!"
