"Figures like Rush Limbaugh and to a much lesser extent, bloggers like Kos and Glenn Reynolds, are powerful because they represent a movement and ideology."

"They are the leaders of a team. Ann Althouse doesn't represent anything but herself."

True! There is no Team Althouse.
The Daily Cardinal came up with a list of the top 10 most influential figures in Madison....

Number 10 was absurd. Ann Althouse? There's a difference between being big and being influential. She might have been noticeable enough for Isthmus to run a cover story about her, but...
Ha. This is written by Jack Craver, who wrote that cover story in the Isthmus. He insulted me in the article, portraying me as an egotist, and he's doing it again here as he says I "don't represent anything but [my]self." His problem is that, as a lefty, he doesn't get individualism. It's not egoistic to write, representing myself. Who am I to represent if not myself? I am myself! The writing isn't egotistical. It's honest and expressive. People read what I write because I'm a specific person, and you can tell. It's influential to the extent that other people, as individuals, identify with what I've written or have their own thoughts inspired by it or feel like coming in here to talk with other people because a post set up an interesting conversation. If that's influential, maybe it's because there are a lot of individuals like me who enjoy free speaking and don't want to be led.

Drew म्हणाले...

His problem is that, as a lefty, he doesn't get individualism.

Lefties often talk about upholding the collective over the individual, but they exempt themselves from the rules and strictures they want to impose on the collective.

Taxes, energy usage, what you eat, . . . they want to control the collective, but they will use their own power and influence to avoid those controls.

Of course, as studies have shown over the last decade, conservatives -- those who uphold the individual -- contribute far more to charitable causes (to the collective, that is) than the lefties who always claim they care more than conservatives do.

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

I don't agree that Rush represents a movement or an ideology. What millions heard, including yours truly, when they first tuned into Rush were their own inner thoughts, thoughts that were not voiced anywhere in the ether, given voice. It was the shock of recognition: hey, I'm not alone and the insanity I hear daily, the insanity poured over me by respectables is just that, insanity, and I'm sane and fuck them and thank God for Rush.

Nietzsche on Althouse:

"One thing is needful. -- To 'give style' to one's character -- a great and rare art! It is practiced by those who survey all the strengths and weaknesses of their nature and then fit them into an artistic plan until every one of them appears as art and reason and even weaknesses delight the eye. Here a large mass of second nature has been added; there a piece of original nature has been removed -- both times through long practice and daily work at it. Here the ugly that could not be removed is concealed; there it has been reinterpreted and made sublime. Much that is vague and resisted shaping has been saved and exploited for distant views; it is meant to beckon toward the far and immeasurable. In the end, when the work is finished, it becomes evident how the constraint of a single taste governed and formed everything large and small. Whether this taste was good or bad is less important than one might suppose, if only it was a single taste!

At times Althouse seems a bit thin skinned and quick to take umbrage. As Mead first wrote about her profile in Isthmus, it was an A- nothing to get too uptight about. And I assume a strong ego goes with the territory that willing posts pictures and details of one's not so ordinary life. I guess loyal followers like ShoutingThomas, Snova, and Trooper represent a certain ideology, and others, myself included, represent a different view point. I post when the topic interest me because the forum is small and interactive and reflects a bit of life in Madison.

And although I might bust on roachy or garage more often than others that is because I consider them part of the gang even though we would never agree on anything. I value hearing what they say as I do the even more insane opinions of people as divergent as Robert Cook and New Ham. No. You Libtards wanted to pretend Elizabeth was the ultimate victim. Ann's response was that Elizabeth had many things to be grateful for in life, amoung them: She had 3 beautiful children, only one of whom died young. She was smart, happy, and beautiful for most of her life. She had a nice, handsome husband with a big cock who was greatly admired and brought her great admiration and wealth.

For that, you want her to die suffering so you can piss on her grave.

One reason I'm here is to collect dirt on Althouse. Decades from now, people will want horrible things to include in her obituary. And what better place to find dirt than her own blog, where she literally links to people saying bad stuff about her?

Us god-dammed Althouse wingnut hillbillies get no respect. What, are we invisible?

And since when is not being a follower a bad trait in an American?

@ Robert Cook @ 4:57...Speak for yourself. You often leave my aghast by your comments, so what must a visitor think? But it is never dull.

I don't know the others in Madison, but it looks to me that they are there because of their positions, while you, Ann, are there because you have an opinion. Good work!

Roux म्हणाले...

What are your team colors? and no you can't pick red and white unless you pick blue as well.

If there is a team Althouse you'll need a cheer and a fight song.

Bullshit!!

I'm on Team Althouse!!!

"Althouse linked back to me! Influential or not, I do like the clicks she sends my way."

Any links that Craver gets from his posts, Craver gets to keep.

Funny that the lyrics for I Am Woman were written by a man.

Troop,

Everybody knows that the Crack Emcee loves a good facial!

I was all "Oh shit, he's gone too far this time!" and then I get there and - BAM! - I'm ROTFLMAO!!!

You're like magic, man.

Fen,

Not a word, fool, not one word. You're just not worth it.

Mr. D म्हणाले...

I'm guessing Glenn Reynolds would be surprised to find out he speaks for an ideology.

Crack: Fen, Not a word, fool, not one word. You're just not worth it.

Coward. You make up shit about what people said, and when called on it, instead of providing the actual quote as evidence, you run away.

The Macho Response?

Toughest job in Madison--Picking out the shorts for Team Althouse.

Seems to me that a blog is a wonderful way to express one's personal opinions and thoughts--has nothing to do with elevating human discourse.

I like the blog and its interactions--so I derive considerable pleasure from reading it--I am free to disagree with the Professor, but she has never deleted my posts when I do--thats a good thing to me.

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

Fen,

You don't read too well, do you?

Fen म्हणाले...

Crack: You don't read too well, do you?

I read you just fine - you're going dark because you can't back up your lies with evidence.

Fen म्हणाले...

Crack: Fen even pulled up a quote from my blog proving I understand every charge leveled against her (in a stupid attempt to paint me as a hypocrite, of course - that guy is incapable of thought)

?? I never pulled a quote from your blog. I made up a quote to show you why its wrong to damn people for comments they never made. But now you think its an actual quote you made? You're so dazzled that you don't even know what you did and didn't say?

Unhinged.

I think you, and all the EE haters, misread me.

We don't hate EE. And I think you misread everyone

Hell, you're not even sure what *you* said.

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

My Gawd - isn't life grand when we have so many people around, that we don't even know, to give us life lessons? They'll just pop up out of nowhere and start spouting off, like they know us, to tell us what we say and don't say, what we know and don't know, and well, just everything? Where in the world would we be without them? I'll tell you:

Living in a world of lies.

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

Dear Fen,

I keep saying you're not worth a shit and I thought, just this once, I should explain what I mean:

I have a blog. Everyday, thousands of people come to my blog, whether I'm goofing or whether I'm troofing, to see what comes out. It's important to them. So important, some will even part with money to make it easier for me to make it happen.

Now, everyday, I also go to the bathroom. Nobody joins me, nobody cares. Hell, I don't even care after it happens.

Those shits are like your opinions. I've even started to name them "Fen's opinions" because they come out and bear no consequence on anything, worthy of nothing more than being flushed away, never to be seen again.

Whoa, I'm sorry - gotta go - I can feel your mind at work already, and knowing what I ate last night, this reply ought to be a doozy!

Keep up the good work, informing everyone of what you think, and I hope this single interaction between us will give them a clear picture of what to do with it in the future.

Sincerely - your buds,

The Crack Emcee

PS

If you want to know why I've chosen to speak to you, now, it's because I never forget to wipe.

That you attack people for things they didn't say, then refuse to support your accusations with their quotes, then run away when called on it.. is not an opinion, its a fact.

But hey, if you want to cover up for 10 rounds, thats fine by me.

And how is it that Prof. Reynolds is so influential? By his choice in who to link. You know, like he links Althouse. A lot. Who was that other one? Oh yes, Limbaugh, who discussed Althouse Extensively the other day. Good grief.
