He insulted me in the article, portraying me as an egotist, and he's doing it again here as he says I "don't represent anything but [my]self." His problem is that, as a lefty, he doesn't get individualism. It's not egoistic to write, representing myself. Who am I to represent if not myself? I am myself! The writing isn't egotistical. It's honest and expressive. People read what I write because I'm a specific person, and you can tell. It's influential to the extent that other people, as individuals, identify with what I've written or have their own thoughts inspired by it or feel like coming in here to talk with other people because a post set up an interesting conversation. If that's influential, maybe it's because there are a lot of individuals like me who enjoy free speaking and don't want to be led.
Number 10 was absurd. Ann Althouse? There's a difference between being big and being influential. She might have been noticeable enough for Isthmus to run a cover story about her, but...

At times Althouse seems a bit thin skinned and quick to take umbrage. As Mead first wrote about her profile in Isthmus, it was an A- nothing to get too uptight about. And I assume a strong ego goes with the territory that willing posts pictures and details of one's not so ordinary life. I guess loyal followers like ShoutingThomas, Snova, and Trooper represent a certain ideology, and others, myself included, represent a different view point. I post when the topic interest me because the forum is small and interactive and reflects a bit of life in Madison.

A site I visit has a very odd running meme on 'smug.' It is a photo of a man seated on a balcony eating a croissant and crinkling his nose. For some reason this is the epitome of smugness, something about the croissant, and the image is Photoshopped a thousand ways, head swaps, additions, animations, etc. If you do an image search for smug, you get a lot of very amusing results. I think the funniest depiction is lifting the eyebrows while closing the eyes and pursing the lips.
I do not see Althouse as any of that. Although that bit in the Four Loco thread about "I am insulting your choice of beverage," had me rolling with laughter. That was a teensy bit smug, but entirely scrutable.

What blows me away is that I can use google streetview and see the houses I used to live in. I screencapped the shots. Poignant and nostalgic.
I can even stop the street camera, turn it, look down the alley behind one of the houses, and see the garage my sisters and I used to climb up on all the time, though dad said we weren't allowed to. Anyway I remember us climbing up on fourth of July, and before the fireworks started, they turned off the street lights/store lights down town.

Seems to me that a blog is a wonderful way to express one's personal opinions and thoughts--has nothing to do with elevating human discourse.
I like the blog and its interactions--so I derive considerable pleasure from reading it--I am free to disagree with the Professor, but she has never deleted my posts when I do--thats a good thing to me.

My Gawd - isn't life grand when we have so many people around, that we don't even know, to give us life lessons? They'll just pop up out of nowhere and start spouting off, like they know us, to tell us what we say and don't say, what we know and don't know, and well, just everything? I keep saying you're not worth a shit and I thought, just this once, I should explain what I mean:
I have a blog. Everyday, thousands of people come to my blog, whether I'm goofing or whether I'm troofing, to see what comes out. It's important to them. So important, some will even part with money to make it easier for me to make it happen.
Now, everyday, I also go to the bathroom. Nobody joins me, nobody cares. Hell, I don't even care after it happens.
Those shits are like your opinions. I've even started to name them "Fen's opinions" because they come out and bear no consequence on anything, worthy of nothing more than being flushed away, never to be seen again.
Whoa, I'm sorry - gotta go - I can feel your mind at work already, and knowing what I ate last night, this reply ought to be a doozy!
Keep up the good work, informing everyone of what you think, and I hope this single interaction between us will give them a clear picture of what to do with it in the future.

That you attack people for things they didn't say, then refuse to support your accusations with their quotes, then run away when called on it.. is not an opinion, its a fact.

And how is it that Prof. Reynolds is so influential? By his choice in who to link. You know, like he links Althouse. A lot. Who was that other one? Oh yes, Limbaugh, who discussed Althouse Extensively the other day. Good grief.
