They sell oranges with the leaves still attached? Or did you pluck them off your tree?

I'm willing to chip in on a DSLR for you. Let me hit up Amazon :)

ManBearPig roams the Wisconsin countryside. You know he's there, behind a tree row or over a hill, but you feel his presence and the chill of his power.

In my area (with very little snow), it's not unusual for a bad storm to knock out power to certain areas for several days at a time.

When I heard last night that there was one hitting Wisconsin, all I could think about was that, if Althouse lost power like that for several days, she would lose her "blogging every day" record, and how awful that would be!

I assume that you Wisconsinites are more prepared for snow than us Tennesseeans, and don't lose power so badly, but it troubled me none the less.

Hey, we're getting some flurries right now!

Here in NE OH, ours is from tonight through Wednesday morning, but it looks like you guys got off lucky. Our little storm will have traversed the Great Lakes, so I'm not confident we'll get as few flakes as you.

Funny you say that. I'm sooo glad I talked The Blonde into have our oaks pruned this year.

Satsuma!

Ahhhh...memories of snow in Chattanooga and the plows piling the snow from the highway into the exit ramps :)

That's a nice touch: putting the green leaves out with the oranges. Something to remember when presenting fruit.

Clyde કહ્યું...

Those look more like tangerines than oranges. A Floridian can tell!

My own personal recommendation is honeybell tangelos. Only available in January, sweet and juicy. I have them shipped to my relatives and friends Up North as Christmas presents.

Ann Althouse કહ્યું...

They're satsumas. And they're sold with the leaves attached.

We're just struggling to get sweet citrus fruit at the beginning of the season. The clementines haven't been good, so we're springing for satsumas... wintering for satsumas.

kjbe કહ્યું...

The problem is that the oak doesn't drop it's leaves til spring and is holding way too much snow.

Hear ya.

I thought the clementines were great this year. Nursing a cold, I o'd on 5 at a sitting yesterday and it seems to have worked.

Jeez, I thought you cheeseheads would be tougher then we Mainers. Snow is good. Savor it.

Kick back and watch Giselle Bundschen's hubby (I figure that's how you'd know him) demolish da Bears. If you don't lose power that is.

Clyde કહ્યું...

Ah, a variety of Mandarin oranges.

The University of Florida's Nassau County Extension web site notes: "In most citrus producing areas, satsuma mandarin is the preferred name, but satsuma tangerine is also used."

So technically we're both right!

Clyde કહ્યું...

For anyone looking for citrus, here's the local company that I purchase from:

Sun Harvest Citrus

The citrus itself is grown in the Indian River area but the packing house is in Fort Myers. In the right column at the bottom is the "Honeybell Express," which ships a jar of honeybell marmalade in time for Christmas and the honeybells themselves in January. It greatly simplifies my Christmas shopping!

Awful indeed.

Electric power is a constant problem where I come from.. there is a version of one of these in most homes there.

I'd blog through my iPhone. I'd get in the car and drive until I could find a place to blog. I'd figure something out!

Althouse, have you tried one of those gizmos you stick in your laptop (usb port?) and it receives satellite? I've been wondering about those. Anyone?

Wisconsin must be sucking all of the cold out of the West. We are suddenly having an unseasonably warm week.

High temps in the upper 40s and low 50s with sunshine. The downside is that the frozen ground is now a huge mucky muddy mess.

Not that I'm complaining.

In Georgia snow is not that big a deal...but sleet and ice is. The true winter Sabbath Ice Storm will take out all of the power for 3 days by dropping ice weighted limbs on power lines. Did you see that Minnesota lost its Metrodome roof?

Sport Beans

I live to learn.

Enlightened but disillusioned.

The deceptively deep bowl contained new and hidden elements this time around.

A handicap is called for. Or an admission of handicap on this end, for presuming Althouse would not present a new and/or different perspective and perception!

Ann Althouse કહ્યું...

Well, if the question is, how many pieces of fruit in the bowl, and you don't get assurances that there aren't other things in the bowl, you could lose a lot of money.

MamaM કહ્યું...

With this bowl, it pays not to presume.

Here in Houston it's a frosty 56 degrees right now. Brrr! Yesterday was over 70, not sure exactly.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday forecast 58, 70 and 75. Lows of 39, 57 and 58.

I have to go out Tuesday evening, it will be below 70. I'll have to dress special for that.

I was just outside walking. Love it when the snow crunches.
