I agree that it feels like a PR stunt, but one that backfired on MSNBC.
Best guess is that they discovered belatedly that if they enforced the rule on everybody then they'd be left with no on camera "talent" when the smoke cleared and the dust settled.
He spent 7500 dollars, and was off the air for 48 hours. Did they make a decision to fine him a certain number of hours per dollars spent? I just wondered if there was any correlation. It comes down to one hour of suspension for every 156 dollars that he gave to his candidates.
But doesn't he do more for Democrats when he's actually on air for an hour.
The whole episode is confusing.
If he's not allowed to back a party, or to back Democrats, then why is he on air, always doing that? If he's allowed to speak for them, but not give money, why isn't he allowed to put his money where his mouth is?
Where else can political junkies get a cable TV version of America's Politico? Will anyone of the commenters here start watching him to see if he cracks up again? His facts are the usual alternate reality where Libs believe all of there own Propaganda. What makes his show draw lib viewers is his WrestleMania approach to posturing anger at the other side.
If an Athenian tells you all Athenians are liars, should you believe him. If a PR stunt generates bad publicity and makes everyone involved look foolish, is it truly a PR stunt?
Is Olbermann's coming back like the sound of a tree falling in the forest when no one is around to hear it? It's not as if anyone ever watched his show.
Oh, and check out the research from Smith College. Great feminist comedy! All the morality questions include a strong leader who will crush dissent and all the chores are done in the house! Nothing for fixing the car, doing the yard work, fixing up the house. Their bias shows in the questions they chose.

"MSNBC wanted get in on some of that Juan Williams action."
I've thought that from the beginning, but it seemed too stupid to mention. Now I remember we're talking about MSNBC:
Nothing's too stupid to mention.
I don't think this was a PR stunt, just typically stupid network management acting arbitrarily and...did I say?...stupidly.
On the day he was suspended, I said:
And since when did NBC find religion...
In other words, I'm not buying it. Not for a minute. (11/5/10 3:28 PM)

I'll be watching now with all the devotion I was before.
P.S. I tried to watch Ken Burn's "Baseball" last night, but then I saw Olbermann.
Double sigh.

Robert, that's going to get you in hot water with the Cambridge, MA NBC affiliate.
MSNBC needed to distract that their election night ratings were the result of everyone rubbernecking to see the train wreck.
I just loved watching Matthews get smacked with the "tingle" crack.

Well, it is the network most loved by Lefties.

Yes, but it was re-tasked about halfway through.

Good. Now he is back on the air, his civil rights were restored, I can go back to ignoring him.

Quite possibly the crappiest survey I have ever come across (and I work with surveys).
Can you at least try to hid the bias? And enough with the repetitive questions. I could easily distill that thing to 2/3rds its size.
The inside story of Olbermann's epic struggle.
Too bad SNL will not parody this latest power play(probably a little too close to the bone at NBC).
On the first link above scroll down to Olbermann's post (I think it is #11).
Keith Olbermann, claimed he does not vote on The View, because that would compromise his journalistic ethics.
From Olbie's Twitter feed:
"Greetings From Exile! A quick, overwhelmed, stunned THANK YOU for support that feels like a global hug & obviously left me tweetless XO"
A man who sends out x's and o's to the Twitterverse. That's very Kirstie Alley of him.
You will not find "XO" anywhere in any comment by rhhardin.
You might need to open a few windows there and get some fresh air in.
