The problem is not the skirts but the bags. My girl friend luckily wears skirts of all sizes. But, more importantly, she only takes one small bag. Now, people take so many bags that it is hard to take the sub-way. What is the reason people need to take everything when they commute?
Does the fashion industry exist so that child molesters can feel they have more moral scruples and the rest of us can feel that we have better business sense?
Hemlines are like everything else. No one wants to be an outlier so they converge on a relatively arbitrary consensus every year. The Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland explains much. Likewise Nassim Taleb's insight about "experts" in The Black Swan.

Knees are ugly. Keep the skirt below the knees. And, ladies and gents alike, no shorts, please.

Everyone knows that the right lenght for a skirt is 24 1/2" as you would find in our Popular Paula Pencil Skirt!
To me, skirts that are within two inches of the knee (higher or lower) seem to be just right.
Depends on how hot she is.
Women still wear skirts?
My skirts always hit about 4" above the knee.

wv:fings I don't really want to know.
When the market crashes hemlines go down.
When the market soars, hemlines go up.
Law of nature. Women want to attract the attention of wealthy men, not guys who need help to pay their rent.
My kilts hit a little above the knee. And before you ask: No, my bagpipes don't show.
@Easycure, this one is for you.
I like my skirts midcalf - that's about 30-32 inches long. I also like 'em A-lined, bias-cut, and preferably made of silk :-)
Never liked above-the-knee skirts, not even when I was young and had the figure to get away with them.
Just below the widest part of my calf.
The woman at 2:21 needs a skirt about 4 inches longer. She really doesn't have the knees for a mini.
Great shoes though.

as my dear departed mother, once a high school principal who carried a "skirt ruler", would say:
"a woman's skirt is like a good essay; short enough to be interesting but long enough to cover the subject"
Eye level!
