Speaking of intellectual property rights, I've been thinking about "Imagine".

Shouldn't that song have been released in the public domain from its inception?

If Lennon, or Ono really believed in the lyrics, then they should have never asserted 'possession' rights over the lyrics or music to that insipid piece of crap.

If it's so easy to imagine there are no possessions, than don't assert copyright over works you control.

As far as this Carrie thing, there's a huge flaw in copyright laws with regards to orphaned works. Seems like any work where the right holders aren't actively exploiting or protecting should automatically become public domain.

There is no value to the copyright holder in this Carrie work as they never want these songs to be heard, or the play to be seen, yet there are plenty of people who would love to remix and reimagine the work if given the chance and put it on in a much smaller scale.

Copyright laws have been perverted well beyond their original intent, and have been used to stifle creativity, rather than ensuring proper compensation for creativity.

Trooper has been yanked from the house of Althouse?

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

It would make a great high school production.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

xwl, short answer, NO.

If someone writes this Carrie thing (and obviously they had to get permission from Stephen King and others to do so) and it flops, it is still belongs to who ever owns the rights. They could burn every copy. Now lost Greek classics from the Library of Alexandria, this is probably not. But there is no reason to revoke copywrite protection.

Really? Why? That is bad news.

Trooper's blog is kind of racy these days. Maybe the professor wants to keep her blogroll family friendly.

Take it back..

Trooper is not a racist ;)

He's only a Yankee fan..

That's it. Thread's over. We have a winner. (I hate that prick too ... but this was the best comment on Althouse this week.)

The Yankees are getting whacked around. I feel .... great ;)

At least the movie had a song by the criminally unknown Vance Or Towers, who as the prom band performed their own song "Education Blues".

If you like that I suggest you listen to 3 more songs by them posted & easily found on YouTube: "Do Whatever We Want" (fantastic glam tinged rock & covered by the even more obscure midwest power-popper Gary Charlson), "City Boy" (one of best pop rockers of the 70s) and "Scream Bloody Robbery", whose lyrics might reverberate with Althousers.

along with the one about how we are a classless society where anyone who works hard can become a millionaire

Not anyone and not guaranteed. On the one hand, in this country regardless of who you are, if you work hard and don't sire a mess o' kids that you can support, you will live better than a very healthy chunk of the rest of humanity. On the other, I would put our civilization's social mobility up against those of other civ's past and present any day.

So, it's not complete bullshit and, frankly in the President's favor, if you reach hard for the sky and end up with only a mountain top, you're still doing better than the people stuck in the mud at the bottom of the valley.

Please. How long did Althouse let Titus wax poetic about his morning dumps and butt sex? Don't buy that reasoning. If it's true, it's hypocritical.

Lem, what are you talking about?

Trooper York म्हणाले...

Did the blogger lady delete one of my posts?

I bet it was the one that linked to the Joey Heatherton album cover.

I salt those in there every now and then to see if she is paying attention.

I don't know about that.

Based on some of the comment sections lately I think she is keeping it "Manson" family friendly.

I was at an off Broadway show last night. It was Nora Ephron's play "Love, Loss and What I Wore."

Our friend Stacy London was in it and it was very good. Also Meadow from the Sopranos.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

After the show when we were waiting around to say hello, two other celebs were there.

Meadows brother AJ (Robert Igler) was there and he looks a lot different in real life.

And this Lance Bass dude from INSYC or whatever that band was. Anyway I could describe that guy in one word.

Scievy.

If I understood Lem correctly Trooper York was deblogrolled.

But I think his blogroll lacks our gracious hostess as well.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

That happened last year.

Trust Lem to be up on current events.
