Methinks there is some acid mixed in with that grass.

Planting grass in the summer is risky business.

Maybe not having any grass at all seemed riskier?

I walked by your house last week -- or the week before -- and was wondering about the front yard. Question answered, I guess.

That second picture would have been siezed upon by Arthur Conan Doyle as further proof of faeries. Or whatever is the suitably late Victorian spelling.

That's some serious lens flare.

Well the headline got me to click through, but my disappointment got me to comment. That's not grass to a boomer. That's a lawn, and in L.A. it's the harder one to find.

Foobarista ayon kay ...

Is that the ghost of lawns past?

Penny ayon kay ...

"Is that the ghost of lawns past?"

Well it sure isn't the Garden of Eden.

chickelit ayon kay ...

Is it winter rye grass?

It does really well out here in cooler weather SoCal: soft, thick, deeper green & luxuriant.

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

The photograph went wild because I took it from the air-conditioned house out into the warm, humid yard and it fogged up. I didn't realize that was happening or I wouldn't have taken the picture.

Penny ayon kay ...

"Is it winter rye grass?"

Rye isn't grass. It just LOOKS like grass.

And in the winter? Damn. Close enough!

Kinda like a "conservative" Republican or a "liberal" Democrat first Thursday in November.

Well, OK, Althouse, all your friends forgive you for taking that "steamy" picture, yet only 20 percent of us wonder why you posted such a poor example of "steamy"?

Personally, I prefer a good cigar and a bit of wry humor.

Penny, your mask is slipping again. Rye is a type of winter grass, distinct from that stuff that grows in your flower box. linkage

wv = "dementio" LOL

At work, we sell annual ryegrass and rye seed for pastures or cover crop, both by the 50 lb bag. It gets confusing when someone asks for a bag of rye, since we have farmers, landscapers, and homeowners coming through, sometimes in one body.

WV misoliz - she ain't dead yet

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

Meade planted actual rye last fall to make things look pretty temporarily. He put it in the window boxes, where it lasted into the winter.

Now, he's redoing the front lawn, and it's real grass. He'll have to tell you what exactly the seed is. But this is the permanent lawn... completely weed free and professionally worked over in some Meadely way.

Ralph L ayon kay ...

professionally worked over
He sent you a bill?

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

We do in kind transactions, Ralph.

I don't think you meant that the way I read it.
