Don't be so anthropocentric.
The forest flora did not evolve to be seen at human eye-level.
If you want to see what is here, see the opportunities to stop and kneel.
Kneel, arrogant human.

Oh, that is really neat.
I see Trilium and Geranium, but what is the flower with the pointy ends?
Dodecatheon.
If Althouse is around, maybe she'd care to answer this question: Is Glenn Reynolds an anti-American extremist who hopes the "entitlement class" riots? Or, not?
Tenacious D's DIO tribute.
Zod had the same theory.

Lessee, Althouse in black leather (OK, green) and a whip.
Yeah, that works.
"Or, not?"
I think Glenn is trying to make a point. And that point is that there is a segment of society that is the largest recipient of our tax dollars and we aren't that segment.
By that, I mean that the citizenry which paid the taxes are no longer the primary beneficiaries of that money. It's a handover from those who work (citizens) to those who lord over us(government employee unions).
Government workers (not citizens) are the primary recipients of our tax dollars. It is obscene what they are paying themselves. It is twice what anyone could earn in the private sector.
Medicare and Social Security seem like they "cost" a lot, but that's just money we paid in that we're getting back. It's a pure redistribution.
It was our money to fucking start with, so giving it back to us can never be considered a "cost." There is no "cost" involved in handing back that which you took. In fact, government workers benefit significantly by taking a cut to administer programs. We get back less (as a society) than we put in.
If you want to "cut" government (and frankly, if Democrats want the new normal to be 10% unemployment they are going to have to cut government) then you're necessarily going to be cutting the salaries and benefits of government workers.
And I think Glenn is right: The government isn't going to give up this money without a massive in-the-streets bloodbath of a fight. They'll organize riots and steal any way they have to.
Take a look at what's happening in Greece. That's what is going to happen in the United States when the money runs out and it has already run out.
It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees.
I won't deprive my ankles and shins of the luscious view.
LW,
You're never going to forgive Reynolds for not asking you to the prom are you?

If you think you need to get low to see those flowers, check out ginger blossoms.
We are forever ripping out ginger. What a spreader. It's crowding out the Lady's Mantle.
oooh. An amethyst shooting star.
"We are forever ripping out ginger."
No kidding.
I've also got run away Solomon Seal. When I moved in there was one patch. But over the years the squirrels have disperesed the seeds and now it's everywhere. I've generally let it spread, but this year I've started to push back.
My ginger is nicely contained, for now. I'm ripping out lily of the valley, goutweed (Aegopodium podagraria), and ditchweed (generic daylily).
Pray to your false triliums and jack in the pulpits.
Don't get me started on lily-of-the-valley. Arrrrgh!
I planted wild geranium and shooting stars after seeing them up and around the Baraboo Hills and Int'l Crane Foundation. Am a big fan of perennial gardens, btw.
Painting as therapy!
I just got my electric bill from Polk-Burnett Coop, and I noticed that for the first time, the state and county are taxing electricity.
Basic Elec. $29.00
Energy Charge $26.17
Power Cost Adj. $0.79
State Tax $2.80
County Tax $0.28
Commitment to Community $0.67
Focus on Energy $0.67
Energy Charge represents the fact that I used 231 Kwhs for the past 30 days. The rest of the charges are different people taking AllenS's money.
For those who don't know me, that is Wisconsin I'm talking about.
I love Lily of the Valley. It's between the north side of my house and the driveway. All shade all the time, and covered with snow in winter. I don't know what else would go there.
Now, everyone sing!
White coral bells upon a slender stalk
Lilies of the valley line my garden walk
Oh don't you wish
That you could hear them ring?
That will only happen when the fairies sing.

Don't let it get out of that cage.
The lilies of the valley are bounded by yews on the east, a brick patio on the west, the house to the south and driveway to the north.
It can't make much progress west to the patio anyway on account of the out-of-control oregano there. It's interesting to see those two battle it out. Maybe I should plant mallow there, too, or Bee Balm.

They are tunneling under the yews even as we speak. I'd double the guard and perform midnight surprise roll calls.
"Kneel before Sod!"
