@Rialby: That tree in the picture looks like its been pummelled by North Korean artillery.
As to your question: Of course I don't know, but it would seem it isn't in China's interest for North Korea to start a shooting war. It isn't in our interests either.
The RandPaul issue is an example of how the 'partiers are completely intellectually outmatched. See all of this, and see if you can find any teaparty "intellectuals" trying a counter-attack. And, the funniest part about it is that they think attacking me for this comment is going to serve a purpose.
Note also the latest shocking news that's being spread: that RandPaul is worried about something that doesn't exist. Except, Barack Obama referred to the NAFTA Superhighway as a "fact" in March '08. If RandPaul fans and 'partiers knew what to do they'd already have pointed that out and tried to discredit the spreaders rather than leaving it up to me. Instead of doing that, expect the 'partiers to think that leaving a comment attacking me is going to solve their problems. Really, really dumb.
I wonder if it bothers LonewackoDotCom to know that everything he's ever posted in the comment sections at other people's blogs could be replicated with a rudimentary spam script that 1. Announces that everyone else is too dumb/stupid/ignorant to know how to deal with the current situation, and 2. Includes one or more random link to his blog in an effort to leech some of the search-engine mojo of blogs that people actually read.
@Rialby: That tree in the picture looks like its been pummelled by North Korean artillery.
You mean South Korean. Those people had a fearsome rep in 'Nam.
Problem is, if it's war, nobody knows what the Norks will do or whom they'll try to drag in. There was a piece, maybe on Strategypage, talking about the possibility of the crazies using nuclear weapons.
If so, all the dancing done by The Zero for the Dinner Jacket is going to scare the Hell out of people and send his numbers through the fifth sub-basement.
If that was a picture of a tree in North Korea, it would be called a Smorgasbord. A terrible thing to say, but probably close to the truth. No woodpeckers involved.
Well, it's not like the NorKs can afford to pay any sort of restitution. Looks like they're just gonna take a few pages from Saddam's playbook and see how much they can get away with. The U.N. and the West will be predictably impotent on the issue.
I for one would like to see the silver lining of this sad tale to be just another contributing factor to the disbanding of the U.N.
Ann--this photo and your previous one of the graceful, symmetrical patterns traced by worms are quite fascinating. I have not seen anything quite like either of them in my perambulations through the woods. Things that I have seen that are comparable are the byzantine honeycombs termites sometimes make of dead trees, and the skeletonized leaves you sometimes find in the late fall, in which only the rib and veins remain intact.
A new Korean war would have to be horrific considering that the North is so armed to the teeth, and the only way to stop them would be to kill them by the millions. This is a very dangerous situation, with no nice way out. It's a giant hostage situation with a heavily armed lunatic.
This combined with the Iran/Israel time bomb will show people how misdirected their fears of U.S. aggression have been. The world may well see another great tragedy. We will be blamed for acting either too fast or too slow, too hard or too soft, but we will be blamed.
Conservatives claim they implement the political agenda of Jesus Christ. As I've been told way too many times, if you're not politically conservative, you're not Xian.
But Jesus taught forgiveness. (Well, the one I was raised on, anyway). But conservatives will not even forgive people for holding different opinions than they do!
Like I said (and I've said many times before), the 'partiers are the dumbest of the dumb. Two exemplars are above: AC245 and Trooper York.
Instead of working to try to discredit those with much louder megaphones (such as those who are smearing the 'partier idol RandPaul), they just smear me.
Now, if you think about it, that isn't too smart, is it? Trying to smear me here is worthless: I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing.
But, maybe I'm wrong. Can AC245 or Trooper York direct me to posts where they attempt to discredit people like Justin Elliot?
The partiers aren't just fundamentally stupid: they're also vile and lazy and they don't even know what's in their own best interest.
Trooper York: can you direct me to you actually doing something effective vis-a-vis discrediting the "bad guys" and working to reduce their power? Because, I've been doing it - without much help from others - for years. And, instead of helping me, you're wasting my time and working against me. And, since those who I call "bad guys" intersect with those you'd call "bad guys", that's pretty stupid, isn't it?
Really do your best to think this through: are you helping yourself, or are you hurting yourself?
(Everyone else: like I said, these are fundamentally intensely stupid people.)
edutcher, I am sorry to hear that. I hope you and The Blonde do well during the transition.
It's not a done deal yet, but these kids do need homes. We'll be OK, thank you, but I knew it would go this way.
Well, Miss Morstan is probably going to a friend of The Blonde's with several small children, which would be the best of all possible worlds for everybody.
So, with a little luck, it will all work out well.
No matter what, I will always be grateful for the Althouse blog and to Althouse herself for a couple-so profound friendships, through it and her, with and by which I have been so deeply blessed.
(Sorry for being so emotional. Just got off the telephone with one of those couple-so, and, as always, it's like a long cool drink on a hot day, or a mug of warm on a cold day. Or something like both: It's something else.
Lonewacko, You really present as a distasteful individual. No matter what your goals or how well you are pursuing them, your presentation really sucks and only makes people NOT want to know more. Since I like the Tea Party, I probably shouldn't help you like this, but it's like when someone has a booger, I feel obligated to tell them. Of course boogers are not intentional, but I still feel you need help.
Kensington, My local Bank of America used to have an ATM that hummed the Woody Woodpecker tune every time it issued a cash withdrawal. Sadly, it was replaced.

Who can disagree with that?" Who? Anyone who understands anything about conservatism.
That was one of the dumbest things you've ever posted. It betrays your complete and utter lack of basic comprehension when it comes to conservatives and conservatism.
Do you truly know nothing of which you post? Do you traffic in anything but strawmen?
What conservative claims that they're implementing the political agenda of Christ? I've got news for you: Christ wasn't a politician, and He wasn't pursuing politics. His concerns were ever so slightly bolder than that.
And where was forgiveness thrown out of conservatism? What I think you're doing is mistaking forgiveness for submission or acquiescence. Alpha, conservatives forgive people just as much as anyone else does. Again, forgiveness in general is not a political matter.
I'm with bagoh20, why would we want anything you're hawking after insulting us? A very odd marketing ploy, that. Is your day programming for MSNBC?
You remind me of the stranger a guest brings to the party. You know type; double-dips the guacamole, eats all the shrimp, tries to feel up your woman and pukes in the hall closet.
No wait...that was Belushi's Blutarsky....he was funny...you're more like the dweeb who pesters the popular girls in high school...the human fly who never seems to get that nobody wants anything to do with him.

What are the odds of war on the Korean peninsula?
Doesn't seem like the markets cared today.

Didn't North Korea just start a shooting war?

There is nothing like the sound of a red headed piliated woodpecker in the morning, or was that cluster bombs at the DMZ?

Halp! I can't stop playing Google Pacman !!1!!
Here's a Pileated Woodpecker getting ready to do some damage in our yard.
The focus is bad because I was shaking with excitement when I saw him.
Beyond South Korea proving beyond a reasonable doubt that the NoKos blew up one of their ships and killed 45 sailors, did something else happen today?
I did see a nuthatch at the bird feeder.

I'd like to hire that pecker. Such enthusiasm and diligence is rare these days. A good pecker is hard to find.
That looks like something Project Runway should make its designers work with.

Something does not compute! Whatever!
Who can disagree with that?
Thanks to Paul Ran for "giving the country a crash course in libertarian ideology!"
Ooops. Paul Rand.
Or, Paul Ayn.
Beer in the keyboard agin'.
MeadeHouse go into the woods one fine day and stumble onto Obamas counter terrorism strategy..
Its full of holes.
WHEN WILL RAND PAUL DENOUNCE & CONDEMN HIS BEST MUSLIM FRIENDS LOUIS FARRAKHAN AND ‘BANDAR BUSH’?
A nation wants to know!

And, unfortunately, Althouse gives them air time.
Dude I wouldn't smear you. You smear cream cheese. And snot....wait a minute...I have to rethink this.
Just a little word to the wise.
Get over yourself.
Since there's no real topic, I had to say it here. It looks like we've found a new home for Mrs. Hudson. We'll know tomorrow.
Damn, I'm gonna miss that little pup. We bonded like few other things in my life have.
Don't mean to be maudlin.
