(These are just some more of my pictures from the Art Institute of Chicago. We've moved on to Lafayette, West Lafayette, and back through Chicago, and — almost to Madison — we're picking up free WiFi (and cheap cheeseburgers) at a McDonald's near Beloit.)

You've taken to the long skirts, at least in the cold weather, I see.

Very flattering, a nice look with a longer top.

You look beautiful, Ann.

Just when I think you couldn't possibly do a better series of photographs, the orchids, you come along and do so. If I ever get to Chicago, I will definitely visit the Art Institute.

There is some interesting impressionist restoration work by Art Institute of Chicago's scientist Francesca Casadio. For example, see the cover of a monograph she authored concerning a Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec painting which he had created on the the plaster wall of his room, there: http://www.artic.edu/aic/books/mstudies/31_2.html
Although jstor is a payAsYouGo site, its preview linked shows some of Casadio's craft handily.

If you're going to seriously camouflage yourself in a matisse, you have way too much clothing on.

Perhaps next time, then?

Wait, wait, don't tell me. That is the before and after shots at the new airport total body scanner.

Boy, they have those Joseph Cornell boxes displayed terribly! Impossible to look at in detail.

No picture of you in front of Seurat's famous painting? Avoiding a cheap joke about pointillist-headed law professors? Hope you're having a great weekend with your valentine.

What? No stop at that dive diner place again? You know, the one where they were transferring the ketchup between the bottles.

Ohhhh... I love the Art Institute. The first time I went there I wasn't expecting that much... I mean, it's JUST Chicago, right? I'd been to museums in New York and London, etc. Boy was I wrong. I love to sit on the bench in front of that Seurat. I was surprised at the size of that thing.

Does Althouse have a whole closet full of those black skirts like the way Steve Jobs has a closet full of his trademark black mock turtlenecks? (I'm not criticizing it -- it looks good...and she's shown you can even ski in 'em! Just wondering if she's consciously making it her trademark look.)

Does Althouse have a whole closet full of those black skirts
They're required apparel in NYC.

That skirt isn't really black. It's more tie-dye, with a lot of dark green, etc. I have at least 8 of those skirts. One is black. They are extremely comfortable and easy to wear. The brand is Surrealist.

Re Seurat: We had 2 hours, and we didn't get to that part of the museum. We concentrated on the new Modern Wing.

Ate at the restaurant there too. It wasn't that good.

kimsch বলেছেন...

Ann, you're right the restaurant there isn't very good. And it's hard to get to. Although sitting outside in the courtyard late spring to early fall is quite pleasant.

Grant Woods' American Gothic is housed there as well. (In the museum, not the museum restaurant.)

"A McDonald's Near Beloit" sounds like the title of an indy film.

Sorry, but those shoes deserve to be on a golf course.
