We're having a blast in Austin.

An arctic blast.

No one can call it a cold snap. Everyone feels compelled to say arctic blast.

Have you noticed that ever since the Copenhagen Conference ended in December, there has been one continual massive cold spell throughout most of the U.S. and Europe?

Perhaps God is trying to tell us something...

WV: tabled (and that's what happened to the big plans at COP15... wv is spooky!)

Today was beautiful in Madison. Fresh piles of white snow, deep deep blue skies, no wind. Winter days like this are a treasure no matter what the temperature.

The creator of GUMBY, Art Clokey died, dammit.

Clokey's 1953 experimental film, "Gumbasia," used stop-motion clay animation set to a lively jazz tempo. It became the inspiration for the subsequent Gumby TV show when Sam Engel, the president of 20th Century Fox and father of one of Clokey's students, saw the film and asked Clokey to produce a children's television show based on the idea.

Creator also of Davey and Goliath. Video and pictures at link.

"Arctic blast" sounds like a term from the weather channel, which is probably where the Texans got it. They're not used to having a bunch of nuanced terms for freezing their balls off, like the people in Wisconsin are. :)

OT: It snowed today in Florida. Hadn't happened, since 1977.

I'm currently freezing my bollocks off.

I thought we had the term "Blue Norther" for artic blast. Too many non-Texans moving in with their weather channels and weird lingo.

Nice pic.

And remember, Texas was once and independent sovereign nation.

Anne - That is a pic that you probably shot at some networks and got money for.
More so if you did it as a 10 second video snippet.

I was sitting in my car in Sarasota (Florida) today and noticed some guy with a television camera filming the ground. I thought he was insane, or maybe just testing it, and then I noticed it was hailing.

That's cause you're in Texas, Darlin'. Ever'thang's larger than life there, not like those small states - you know, Pennsylvania, California, Alaska.

I didn't think ladies had bollocks, mum.

is that hell freezing over? (hee hee - Roll Tide!)

Best sausage, Victoria = Tennessee Pride

You can probably get it in Fla, if you're not too far south.

Something Glenn Reynolds just linked to starts off saying:

Buoyed by a huge advantage with independents and relative disinterest from Democratic voters in the state, Republican Scott Brown leads Martha Coakley 48-47.

Looks like one of the Daley brothers is going to have to fly in from Chicago to show 'em how to stuff ballot boxes in Boston. Or do they already know?

This is good news for the Californian and Mexican citrus industry. :)

vbspurs म्हणाले...

Just looked them up, and Tennessee Sausages are available at Publix and Winn Dixie (the two competing supermarket chains in Florida). YAY! Consider the sausages bought and tasted, HT, and thanks!

vbspurs म्हणाले...

OT: I knew there really was a Piggly Wiggly supermarket chain, and that it wasn't just an invention by the writers of Driving Miss Daisy. But there really is a Kash -n- Karry?

Please take in that great bird bath before it cracks.

There is an arctic blast in Massachusetts, for democrats.

Two flaming heads from Ace!

Oh please, please let this be true.

Yes Victoria. And there really is a Kum & Go too. :)

Correction - Anne that is a pic you probably could have shot at some media and gotten some money for.

That was truly "news eye candy" about how cold it is down South.

One other one I loved from Friday was a Florida news crew learned that reports had been coming in it was so cold that iguanas were dropping out of trees onto lawns and swimming pools and got it picked up in major media. It even ran sympathetically in Moscow, where it was what like -40 Degrees and typical weather and the lady news reader reported of "large American lizards" unable to cope with the cold and dropping on people's heads.

(And true - the iguanas are being rescued, the manatees are swimming to power plant discharges, and rescuers are out in boats netting torpid from cold sea turtles before they drown)

Not true -

1. It was NOT so cold that Algore's private jet would not start and whisk him away from cold DC to a more "planet-friendly" warmer place like Tahiti.
2. Algore was not spotted in attempted disguise at a 7/11, trying to buy Duraflame logs.

Don't know if you were just writing fast, but it's Tennessee Pride, not Tennessee sausages, or if that's what you meant anyway.

And yes, I guess if there's a Winn Dixie, there should be Tenn Pride.

I'm looking forward to having my first taste in over 15 years. How I have missed it. Hope it hasn't changed.

Actually the lizoids are falling from the trees out of shock at seeing how bad Charles Johnson looks lately.

Beady eyed and "husky". I thought bike riding kept you fit?

1977 was the last time it snowed in south Florida. I recall it snowed in Homestead that year. Florida gets snow about every other year, very roughly.

Call it a breath of fresh air.

Since I never noticed any reports of snow in other years, I can't say either way. But I do know that many Floridians call "The North" anything with snow. So basically anything north of Ocala.

I was going to post that link too, Fred! Did you see that you know who received an "alert" on his massive computer screens about someone posting a stalking comment about his address, RIGHT WHEN the journalist writing the puff piece was there?

What a coinkydink.

vbspurs म्हणाले...

Yes, HT, Tennessee Pride. Sorry about that. I will make discreet inquiries tomorrow at Publix. :)

vbspurs म्हणाले...

GASP! LOL!
