Forgive my density, but what "role" is Hitler "playing"? In the "Hillary's Downfall" video, it was obviously Hitler = Hillary Rodham Clinton. But who is he "playing" here? Not President Obama, since he refers to him repeatedly. Rahm Emanuel? (Ouch!) David Axelrod? Timothy Kaine? Howard Dean?
Or has Der Führer taken a sudden interest in our Supreme Court rulings and our politics?
aside from anything involver the Fuhrer reaking of extremely bad taste, the questions are good particularly in that the original circuit appeal didn't bring up areas covered in the SC decision if I am not mistaken....and the Court ran away with this..no?
The "Is a Corporation a person" argument is the Left's strawman argument. Scalia correctly eviscerates that argument, put forth by the doddering Stevens, starting on page 79: http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/09pdf/08-205.pdf
The 1st Amendment says that the Government SHALL make NO LAW restricting SPEECH. That's any speech. Isn't the NYTimes a corporation? Why would they have the right to voice opinions on elections and not other corporations?
I agree, this Downfall-subtitle-remix meme is played out.
But don't let that keep you from watching the actual movie "Downfall", if you haven't already. Absolutely the most riveting drama I've seen in the last 10 years.

This one has now "been removed by the user" but the last few Hitler parodies I have seen have had the same problem. I watched one for a few seconds where the author had created a backstory for Hitler as corporate executive. It was idiotic.
None of these have been as good as Downfall of the Cowboys. Jayne Cobb is right. It's played out.
Didn't get to see this one before removed by user.
But I don't think the Downfall thing is played out. Rather, it's become sort of a new art form. A sonnet has certain constraints, as does a limerick. Making something that follows a certain pattern and still entertains, despite the fact you've seen the pattern a million times before, is part of what makes it impressive.
For instance, I love the Lockhorns because of this. I believe the comic has just three basic jokes. But the artist somehow makes me laugh by doing all sorts of subtle variations.
WV: bisatin. An empire as described by the Berkeley School district curriculum.
They're not played out, its just that since they have become a memetic mutation, it's harder to find the good ones.
Prepare to have your afternoon ruined. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Downfall
I do like two of the ones from that page, Hitler gets banned from XBOX live (and later tries wii and PS3) and when his staff describes all the stupid ones out there and go to war against them.
I'm starting to really enjoy the use of this footage for this and that. The Mass election version was exceptionally funny, as was the first one I ever saw, reaction to the delayed release of Darkfall Online.
So, um, okay, I can’t see the video, but let me guess... Hitler is supposed to be mad about how Citizens United came out. He is talking with his advisors, and then someone breaks the news to him, he tells everyone but X to leave the room, and then throws a hissy fit, where he mocks all kinds of people. Maybe calls Scalia a twit or something. If they are better than most, he will mock some liberals, too, calling Stevens a fossil or something.
First, am I getting any of this wrong? If I can predict the whole thing without having seen it, that is a really bad sign for the vitality of this trope. I think its time to shelve it and come up with a new one.
And if I am right, well consider how bad the optics are. I mean presumably Hitler is taking the liberal position here, in opposition to freedom of speech. Well, unlike the far funnier Cowboys/Romo/Simpson one at least this is in character. I mean seriously, if this is anti Citizens United, anti-speech, then wow, what a terrible set of optics they created. “We agree with Hitler! Yay!”
Of course that is assuming its as I predict, fwiw. But I would give it about 90% chance that I am right.
But yeah, I think I do want to check out downfall.
Yea, now it's gone, but man, that scene is useful.
It's so perfectly shows a pissed leader (boss, general, politician, coach) when things go terribly wrong and their underlings have to break the news. Wonderful stuff.

Best one yet.

Word verification: chessi.
The Hitler meme is played out.
The real action lies with rap battles between Hayek and Keynes

Au contraire! It's made me want to see the original movie!
Whoa! The same film clip was used to illustrate the dismal decline of University of Illinois football under Ron Zook:

A far more important issue, in my humber opinion,
And, I forgot to say:
FIRE RON ZOOK!

The Hitler meme will be played out when we all get out of the bunker...
This video is such a great addition to the discussion on campaign finance. Thanks for it Althouse.
This schtick is getting old
There are far too many of these and the only one worth watching is the first one--and it was about the Dallas Cowboys. It's time to retire Hitler.
Its not bad taste hdhouse. You're just mad because your hero Stalin wasn't used.

The storm chasing with Hitler is the best one, and it's two years old, so somewhat original even.

Not played out at all. Not until somebody comes up with something better.
Does anybody know where the video clip went?

Well don't gloat because they used yours.

Nope just laughing hysterically.
At you too!

Both also use different scenes from the movie.

Someone suggested this in the Favre thread:

Personally, I like Scientific Peer Review, ca. 1945.
