Environmentalists are calling for the creation of wildlife "corridors" in Malaysia to link the scraps of jungle where orangutans have become trapped by decades of encroachment by loggers and oil palm firms.
[emphasis added]
Follow the money and blame it on European biodiesel, which is made from palm oil.
One reason the whole global-warming-catastrophe junk is so unfortunate is that it sucks attention away from real environmental issues, like this kind of thing.
There are thought to be 50-60,000 orangutans still living in the wild in Malaysia and Indonesia, but deforestation and the expansion of palm oil plantations have taken a heavy toll.
I didn't know they had special plantations.
Great, now we can feel really guilty about masturbating.
Similar circumstance happening to the largest land mammal- the elephant. Traditional corridors are being cut and blocked with elephants trapped from water sources and browsing.
Human conflict is increasing with forests being decimated and land converted to farming.
This along with the all too familiar poaching for ivory.
The irony of waking up this morning, finding this thread after not being here for a few days, after watching both "Every Which Way But Loose" and "Any Which Way You Can" last night on DVD from the library near my folks' house is killing me.
You may ask why anyone would subject themselves to those two awful films, to which I'd briefly mention the way LA and the SFV looked in the 70's, and summarize in two words the reason: Sondra Locke.
She's one you either get or not, though, so don't hate on me.

Same thing with ginger people -- narrowing corridors.

Palm oil is edible oil, too.

Sure, go ahead and blame it on movie popcorn and Hollywood. They deserve it too.

Orange rhymes with orange.
One is the color and one is the fruit.
Add some Tang and you have Orangutang.
Worth saving, I agree!
Corridors are a good idea. I have spent some time in Borneo. Beautiful place.
