At nightfall on Christmas Eve we switch over to candle light for illumination. The visual beauty and feeling of peace that accompanies this change is amazing.
We can only maintain a 3-4 hour window, before turning back to electronic devices. But the loveliness we experience when we do this surprises us every year.
You've given each other the greatest gift one person can give another and have been gracious enough to share your happiness with everyone who has come in contact with you.
May God bless you both for all your days.
And, of course, Merry Christmas to all at Althouse.
It's funny how much difference there can be in one year to the next - if you are open to what life can bring.
Your life in 2008 struck me as a full and happy one. In 2009, still a full and happy life, but one that looks different than the previous year's.
Congratulations on having the courage to take some risks. Hope and pray that the joy that you felt on the mountain in August continues through a long happy and healthy life.
"It is a fair, even-handed, noble adjustment of things, that while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good-humour. When Scrooge's nephew laughed in this way: holding his sides, rolling his head, and twisting his face into the most extravagant contortions: Scrooge's niece, by marriage, laughed as heartily as he. And their assembled friends being not a bit behindhand, roared out lustily."
Blessings this Christmas on Althouse and Meade, their family and friends, and to the commenters here.
Let there be a Christmas Truce; time to play some soccer.
This morning my daughter & I volunteered with the B'Nai Brith Pinch Hitters at a local hospital. I hope the employees we filled in for had a wonderful Christmas morning. I have new respect for food service workers.

Merry Christmas from the San Fernando Valley! May you and Meade have happiness and Joy for many years!
And now, a poem by Robert Frost to enjoy these winter months:
WHOSE woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
--"Stopping by the Woods One Snowy Evening," by Robert Frost
Merry Christmas, everyone! Peace and goodwill to all!
