She looks so skinny there. And her hair looks unhealthy. I wonder if she starved herself to death. Potassium deficiency could have caused cardiac arrest.

She was supposed to be the Gen-X'rs Meg Ryan cutsie.

Woe unto us.

I feel a little company now that I see at least one columnist has pointed out the tackiness of celebrity-on-celebrity mourning tweets.

Death be not proud ... in 140 characters

Mourning: There’s an app for that.

There’s something innately tacky about sorrow and social networking. It smacks of self-serving sympathy - “Hey, look at me. I feel bad about this. I’m a thoughtful person who cares about others.” Then, five minutes later: “I hate traffic!” and “The spiced pumpkin latte at Starbucks is the best!”

oh wow. she looked drained, lethargic, like she strained for each word and each expression of emotion ..... lack of nourishment could do it; but some sort of drug seems like a possibility too ...

so sad. just 32.

She was never on my radar but judging by the video clip she seems to have been a very nice young lady. Very sad.

Would it be wrong of me to suspect that she had been using recreational drugs before this interview?

Not that they played a direct role in her death, but it's not like we haven't seen plenty of actors/actresses engage do this.

Man, you can see that absent vacant hollow look in her eyes. She's just not there. So darn young.

Karen Carpenter was only a year older when she died of anorexia related heart failure. That was the very first thing I thought of when I heard that Brittany had died.

Her screen persona was that of a healthy, good natured woman, amused by life and all its challenges. That's not the person you see in this clip. She looks haunted by something. Those dark eyes belong in a horror movie, not in a romcom. In the old days they used to confuse mental illness with demonic possession. Looking at her you see how they could make that mistake....I wonder if her movies will now inspire pity and terror....Ingenues seem to have unhappy lives: Debbie Reynolds, Meg Ryan, now her. Be brave Amy Adams.

Her husband's description of her last day:

Last Saturday, the couple just relaxed in bed, watching three movies as Murphy prepared to cast her vote as a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. They ordered Brittany's favorite takeout -- Thai food -- and ate soup prepared by Murphy's mother, Sharon, who has lived with them for 3½ years.

"She was tired and a little sad because she was sick," Monjack said about Brittany. "She wore her pink Beverly Hills Hotel robe and monkey pajamas. We saw It's Complicated, Public Enemy and The Princess and the Frog.

The couple were joined by Murphy's companion, a pet Maltese named Clara, a Christmas gift last year from Monjack that Murphy named after her favorite silent screen star, Clara Bow. "One of the saddest things is that Clara has looked everywhere for Brittany and can't find her," said Monjack.
