Still in its trick-or-treat outfit.

Penny કહ્યું...

Boo, Vicki! Hope you have some treats handy, rh.

My son got skunked last night. I've spent much of the day trying to get the smell out of his new jacket.

Phil 314 કહ્યું...

Sorry Anne but everytime I hear that tree name I cannot help but hear this

David કહ્યું...

I had two huge Larches in my yard when I lived in Milwaukee. Fabulous trees, so elegant. The photo captures Larch fall color very well.

My lunch-hour walk.

Ann Althouse કહ્યું...

@c3 Don't be sorry. That's exactly what I thought when Meade told me that was a larch. I was all "The Larch."

Original Mike કહ્યું...

I think it's more:

The. Larch.

kentuckyliz કહ્યું...

C3 beat me to it.

Ralph L કહ્યું...

Very funny that you had to be told it was The Larch. (I wouldn't have known, either).

If Meade starts to talk about the importance of not being seen, run and don't hide.

Ralph L કહ્યું...

rh, your doggie is just begging to be photochipped.

MamaM કહ્યું...

Maybe ignorance is bliss but I'm wondering how a son ends up close enough to a skunk to get his jacket sprayed???

Thankfully, our experience has been limited to dog and cat coats, with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide providing the best results. I haven't found any way to completely remove the odor though.

Riding the NY subways looking for work it dawned on me i don't like about half the music in Ipod.

It's like I moved on.

I thought maybe users should have a song exchange.
I give you two or tree in exchange for one I want.

Like baseball cards.

Belmont Club on Althouse on Obama's speech.

Which seemed typically Obama-empty to me from the news clips though.

David કહ્યું...

The whole speech was pretty good, RH. But it's just a speech.

MadisonMan કહ્યું...

Soak the jacket in tomato juice to get rid of the skunk smell. Then a cold water soak to get rid of the tomato.

If it's wool, then never mind.

KCFleming કહ્યું...

The Weeping Willow is, oddly, not The Most Depressing Tree.

It is merely melancholic.

The Bradford Pear is dangerous, but seems to take no small pride in its propensity for wanton destruction, and is Not Sad At All when it Patsy Clines onto your car.

Charlie Brown's Christmas tree is pretty sad, but mostly just pathetic.

But The Saddest Tree in the World is Shel Siverstein's Giving Tree.
Whatta loser.
It's the socialist among trees, oblivious to incentives or independence or the insanity of repeating a failed approach.
Give give give, until it's entirely destroyed.

Goddamned stupid tree.
I for one am glad it's so sad.

The End.

Maybe ignorance is bliss but I'm wondering how a son ends up close enough to a skunk to get his jacket sprayed???

I once was sleeping on the ground in a campground (no tent) and awoke to a skunk one foot from my face. So that's one way. Be unconscious during the skunk's approach.

@Lem

If your iPhone is jail-broken there's an app called iSlsk that allows you to P2P file share on their site Soulseek.

Hazy Dave કહ્યું...

Lem - Here's
two and a half minutes
I'd recommend for your iPod. Surely the public libraries loan CD's in NY?

Freeman Hunt કહ્યું...

I don't think there was a single Bradford Pear left standing after the ice storm we had at the beginning of the year.

Chip Ahoy કહ્યું...

Today I went to my mailbox and there was a key to a larger box. Strange that, I hadn't ordered anything that I could remember. When I opened the box I was delighted with the most splendid thoughtful and unexpected gift that didn't relate to anything at all directly -- a portfolio from the Brooklyn Museum.

Ralph L કહ્યું...

Tomato juice worked for the Partridge Family.

Pretty picture, but there are bigger fish to fry. I just got this trade proposal and have no idea why he would want to do this…

Trade Away:
Eli Manning (NYG)
Ricky Williams (MIA)
Lawrence Tynes (NYG)
Receive:
Peyton Manning (IND)
Chris Wells (ARI)
David Akers (PHI)

--- Scott ---
Trade Away:
Peyton Manning (IND)
Chris Wells (ARI)
David Akers (PHI)
Receive:
Eli Manning (NYG)
Ricky Williams (MIA)
Lawrence Tynes (NYG)

...and yes, the A.D.D. is kicking in hard today.

KCFleming કહ્યું...

Was the trade proposal in an e-mail from Nigeria?

I had a pool once that unfortunately was within range of a black locust. Spent half my time netting the dandruff of tiny black locust leaves that fell without surcease.

Okay, that surcease is affected, but it's staying in. It could have been worse. It could have been sans surcease.

How larch is that tree, anyways? And, is the larch related to the larchpole pine?

malware.

I'm fighting it on my PC laptop right now.

If I ever come in contact with producers of malware, I will whomp them something fierce.

13 year old son hears a noise outside at 1:00 in the morning, goes outside to investigate, and hopefully learns an important lesson.

They're everywhere, sad to say.

What kind of security software are you running?

How's the new bike working out?

traditionalguy કહ્યું...

Just in from CNN...Lou Dobbs has taken a job in Mexico where the economy is still functioning.

traditionalguy કહ્યું...

Mexico, Dobbs reported, still drills for its own oil like it matters and has a booming export trade in Big Pharma and a booming travel agent industry for outward bound tourists.

Not quite. Dobbs just resigned and his plans are up in the air.

According to Fox and Newsbusters.

Although, if he did end up at Fox, would Ubermoron and company have a shot at getting out of the cellar?

traditionalguy કહ્યું...

edutcher...It would be so funny if Lou Dobbs did end up working in Mexico taking a Mexican's job. I could not resist. Fox probably will not take him because he is too old to look fair and balanced.

edutcher -

microsoft forefront.

I've downloaded Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware (mbam) and it seems to be cleaning out the nasty fake anti-virus software that hijacked everything, and kept posting increasingly crass porn in IE. It was crafty, and wouldn't show up in Task Manager and Regedit.

I have to use a PC fairly often at work; this is a university laptop in fact. Crap. Is there now porn on my state-issued laptop?

I want to quit my job, adopt and roam the world, like a shadow, highly trained and efficient in the violent arts, and one by one, take out those who make and launch such evilware. The Beth Supremacy.

Beth કહ્યું...

"adopt a cover identity and roam the world"

I should edit once in awhile.

Malwarebyte seems to be good stuff. The people who maintain my machine use it.

As for using anything Microstuff, that's how you got where you are.

Get a good protection suite - McAfee, Norton, Kaspersky all make them last I looked and there are a couple of others I can't recall off the top of my head. Norton has a lighter footprint than McAfee, so it may be better for your machine.

Let me know how it works out.

Beth -

Get rid of Internet Explorer and use Firefox. Cuts down on sub rosa registry changes by 2/3. Get rid of Outlook Express. Those two changes will armor you against most virus. I run Panda Antivirus in addition, and think it works (not easy to tell).

Beth કહ્યું...

Simon, that's good advice. I don't use Outlook and rarely use IE (only when Firefox doesn't work with some form or another - very rare). And that's been good. I was so flummoxed and pissed off by this thing because I haven't had to deal with malware for years. I don't know what brought this on.

Beth કહ્યું...

edutcher - I agree about Microsoft. My university has a site license, unfortunately, so these are the products we are issued. I will add Norton on my own in hopes I don't go through another unproductive day when I should be grading papers, which I do digitally. This set me back a whole day.

Unknown કહ્યું...

Beth, Simon's advice is right on the money, particularly about Outlook Express; Thunderbird (also from Mozilla) is a great substitute.

Glad we could help.

WV "dismama" The woman I love, rather than dat one.
