One great thing about National is that the runway is literally right next to the terminals, so from gate to takeoff or landing to gate is less than five minutes (unlike Detroit, where some runways are about 30 miles away and it takes about an hour of taxiing).
See, this is proof you can get great shots from an airplane window, which makes even more ridiculous those official photos of AF-One (SAM-28000, 29000 vc-25a without the president on it) that buzzed NY sending the understandably touchy citizens into panic. The evil portion of my inner self always giggles a little bit at that, but my larger portion of my outer self hoses that immediately.
Wow, how did you get those nice photos our of a commercial jet window? Was it a new plane? All the windows I have ever had were so scratched up taking photos from them have been useless.
I was at the exit window. That might have been clearer for some reason.
Anyway, I didn't do anything special. I saw that things looked nice outside, so I grabbed my little Sony camera and took a lot of shots. In iPhoto, hitting "enhance" worked especially well, and I also boosted the saturation and contrast.
While I was at the Detroit airport, I saw a mesmerizing water sculpture, which shot jets of water in various patterns. I stood and watched it for five minutes. No one else seemed to notice it. Either I'm way too easily impressed or everyone else was in one big freaking hurry.
