"My waffle-y wedded wife..."

A reader writes: "I love your blog and immediately thought of you when I watched this at the Anchoress' blog." The video:

The Anchoress post is here.

By the way, I did laugh — more than once — during our recent and oh-so-private wedding, but I won't tell you the things that made me laugh (other than sheer happiness).

The foot stomping kills me. It makes her seem extra charming, fun, and, frankly, pretty hot.

Kensington ayon kay ...

Also, any woman who's willing to look past that godawful goatee is definitely a keeper.

I thought you were legally obliged to post all your personal info on the blog.

<checks contract>

<can't find contract>

Huh. I want my money back.

<looks for receipt>

There is hope for the future. Beautiful video of "real" people in love.

The minister resembles the CA state rep who was bonking the lobbyists.

David ayon kay ...

As long as she's not laughing at him, it's going to be a great marriage. Be smart, big boy, you've got a keeper here.

Dustin ayon kay ...

She kinda looked drunk to me! Not that I blame her.

She's lovely, though. Those little screw ups are all many kids remember from their weddings. A wedding without snags is one nervous kids can't recall.

MadisonMan ayon kay ...

The officiant doesn't seem to get the joke. Either that or he has a second job as a straight man.

kimsch ayon kay ...

The officiant is his father, the other man is her father.

vw: sinhata - sidharta's sister?

Laura(southernxyl) ayon kay ...

So who did the "Princess Bride" line - "Say 'man and wife!'"?

Robert Cook ayon kay ...

That was totally charming; it's nice to think they might be one of those couples who stay married for many many years, always in easy harmony with one another.

Weddings only go perfectly in soap operas.

Every wedding I've been to has had funny moments:

* an usher fainting and falling over during the ceremony
* a kid throwing the rose petals at the audience
* a minister getting the names completely wrong because he's using a previous wedding's program
* a bride's mother who's wearing black because she really can't stand the guy

etc.

it's the stuff America is made of - humor in solemn moments

Hindi-nagpakilala ayon kay ...

At least he didn't say "Awfully wedded wife..." ("Four Weddings and a Funeral," right?)

And what was that the bride popped into her mouth? A Tic-Tac???

Bissage ayon kay ...

. . . and they lived happily ever after.

knox ayon kay ...

"and pancake-y" That would have cracked me up too! But I love puns. Despite their bad reputation.

Peter Hoh ayon kay ...

Knox, don't get all syrupy.

ricpic ayon kay ...

Slight overreaction on the bride's part. Nervous. I can remember a wedding at which the bride was so nervous her high heels wobbled at the I do's.

Wince ayon kay ...

Not as bad as uncontrollable laughter just prior to consummation.

Fred4Pres ayon kay ...

I liked the pancakey part too. Who doesn't like pancakes.

KCFleming ayon kay ...

My sister did the same thing when hubby said With this wing I thee wed. All her bridesmaids broke up when sis said weawy?

They're still married, nearly 35 years now.

Still makes me laugh to think of it.

So who did the "Princess Bride" line - "Say 'man and wife!'"?

Prince Humperdink.

I don't know these people but I think I really like them. They look like fun and happy folks. Great start to their marriage....laughing their asses off and making Princess Bride jokes. I see good things for them.

David ayon kay ...

"With this wing I thee red . . ."

I've heard that twice.

David ayon kay ...

"Wealy?"

Funny sis, Pogo.

KCFleming ayon kay ...

I was the altar boy, not 5 feet away. First time I ever heard Oh, I gotta pee said in church, much less by an adult, and even rarer, so loud everyone could hear.

The priest was not amused. Probably thinking, Goddamned Irish.

paul a'barge ayon kay ...

I'm with David on this ... definitely a keeper. Nothing more wonderful than starting a relationship destined to last the rest of your life with someone with a wonderful sense of humor and an even more endearing laugh.

Laura(southernxyl) ayon kay ...

I know, DBQ, I meant in the video here, at 1:48.

I see now that it is the groom.

knox ayon kay ...

Peter: love it!! You really know how to butter me up.

Jason (the commenter) ayon kay ...

They say you should marry someone who can make you laugh, so clearly she picked the right guy.

bagoh20 ayon kay ...

Nothing more beautiful or terrifying to a man than a woman laughing with abandon. This is the beautiful kind. Enjoy it kids.

I hate the goatee. It just screams goober. Ken Caminetti used to wear a goatee when he played for the Padres some years back and people emulated it all over the place in town. It was stupid and I see people to this day still wearing this style. Ugh!!!

Methadras ayon kay ...

Joy, happiness, and exuberance at the spirit of a blessed union. Awesome way to start.

sonicfrog ayon kay ...

WOW. I wasn't thinking Ken Caminetti, more like Kenneth Branagh. But since you mention it.... yeah, that is a Cammie.

PS. Didn't know you were in SD. I lived there until 96, and still go back for gigs (just there a few weeks ago).

There's 2:24 of my life I've wasted. Ok, I confess - it was really only a little over a minute; watching that clip gave me a headache.

You expected something other than what it turned out to be?
