The parking lot at Whole Foods was jammed once again today, but a car pulled out and we slipped right into a parking spot next to this car:
I've smudged out part of the license plate for the sake of privacy. You'll have to take my word for it that the missing word after the "no" would strongly reinforce the impression given by the "Free Palestine" bumper sticker and the fact that the car is a hybrid and that the store is in Madison, Wisconsin, which is that someone is shopping at Whole Foods who would be boycotting Whole Foods if the Whole Foods boycott was worth a damn.

Eh? So someone with a "Free Palestine" bumper sticker is assumed to support socialized health care? Pat Buchanan doesn't support socialized health care....
Well then no wonder we ran into Pat Buchanan shopping at Whole Foods!
I think he might've been buying ultra right wing organic peanut butter.
I actually might need more of a hint on what's under that smudge. Because I'd hate to make a "naggers" kind of mistake.
"You'll have to take my word for it that the missing word after the "no" would strongly reinforce the impression given by the "Free Palestine" bumper sticker"
i'm assuming the missing word is "Jews". am I right??
hmm, I wonder if any Israeli technology went into making hybrid cars....
@Daubiere I don't believe Wisconsin would issue that license plate.
I don't think Wisconsin would issue that license plate, either, but sometimes you gotta print the legend. Besides, I'm pretty sure Cedarford was picking up some arugala and flax seed oil.
By the way, Althouse, I digress to be interesting: Faoud (spelling surely wrong) Ajami has one hell of an oped in the WSJ. You'll blog it, but this is a heads up.
My guess is that the word next to NO is LiveJews.
There is nothing funny here to rough and tumble Americans.

Is it No Arugula-flavored_cream-cheese?

Ah, I think I got it. Energy-related, perhaps.
And LoafingOaf, the bumper sticker is not the only clue about the driver's position ... the professor has named three indications that lead to a best guess.
You're smudging out the license for the sake of PRIVACY????? That's crazy! It's a vanity plate! He WANTS US TO READ IT!!!
Priceless.
It's easy to slap on slogans and display vanity plates but it's HARD to give up.... organic.......or ANYthing
That first smudged letter could not be a 'J.'
I'm guessing "NO MEAT" -- the bumper sticker was a red herring.

I think many of us thought that or Joos. Though they would not issue that one as pointed out.
However riffing off the energy clue:
No Oil or No Gas
The reason Mackey's op-ed in the Journal ignited such a firestorm on the far left it that he outed them.
If it were about health, and care, they would have heaped praises upon him. For the far left, however, and even much of the mid-left it isn't about health at all ...
... it's about control, and Mackey blew their cover.
Never been to Whole Foods.
This boycott is a good reason to go check it out.
I'm guessing the second word is "BRAIN."
There isn't a Whole Foods in my immediate neighborhood, but I will be in the near vicinity of a Whole Foods later today, so I think I will stop in and see what they have. I do need some Greek Yogurt...

The first smudged letter has to be an 'M' or an 'N' and last letter looks as though it could be a 'K' -- though a 'W' or even a 'Y' cannot be ruled out (but I think a 'V' can be ruled out -- the angle is wrong). So I'm guessing "NO NUK".
Yea, Robt C got it = "NO MEAT".
A few guesses:
"No Nudes" -- wants the local art museum to exercise modesty.
"No Newts" -- opposes salamanders, and Gingriches.
"No Nuges" -- opposes cloning Ted Nugent.
"No Netis" -- equates using a neti pot to waterboarding.
"No Nuprins" -- Little. Yellow. Different. Worse.
"No NLDS" -- wants Major League Baseball to return to the pre-realignment, pre-wild card days.
"No Nerds" -- in town-gown debates, takes the side of the townies.
"No Noids" -- holdover from the pizza delivery wars of the '80s; other bumper sticker implores you to "Avoid the Noid."
"No Nordics" -- Actually, I bet Wisconsin would refuse to issue that one, too.
Are we sure it isn't NO MILK here in my dairy state?
I bet it reads "No Mensa" to level the playing field ...to re-distribute the brain power.
rocketeer beat me to it.
I love the Whole Foods boycott. It's the essence of capitalism -- don't offend your customers. Reminds me of the Dixie Chicks. I hope it "works", whatever that means. And then wouldn't it be funny if, like rdkraus says, conservatives/ libertarians rallied to support Whole Foods? Take that, Jonah Goldberg!!
The problem is liberals don't really like free enterprise, even when it is responsible like Whole Foods. They hate the truth being told because their ideas shrivel like all powers of the vampire.
Conservatives agree with Whole Foods' ideas, we just don't like the fact that liberals pretend to like them.
This boycott is a great for conservatives and Whole Foods.
The mindset of someone who has to go around with their core beliefs on the back of their car...
Anyone who cares about the environment would buy a used car, not a "hybrid." But then, that wouldn't be showing off, would it?
I know, Knox, right? Those people piss me off. What's with those fish magnets on the cars too? I mean please, have some public decency.

That's the essence of marketing, not the essence of capitalism. The essence of capitalism would be something like "a thing is worth what people are willing to pay for it".
The funny thing being, the left has been lecturing us for YEARS that it is more important for corporations to "do the right thing" than it is for them to do what is best for their customers. For example, Wal-Mart provides low pay and few benefits in order to provide the best value to its customers. The Left throws unending screaming hissy fits about that, and about how corporations have an obligation to their employees and blah blah blah. Many on the right have said for years that the Left doesn't really want good corporate citizens, but rather people who march in lockstep with the Left.
That is why it is so amusing that Whole Foods, which had comported itself in the manner the left insists all corporations ought to, is being boycotted not for irresponsible behavior or bad corporate citizenship, but because its CEO expressed public disagreement with a powerful leftist. The CEOs who blew off the Left's whining about corporate responsibility are looking pretty shrewd right about now.
What's with those fish magnets on the cars too?
Many cops/troopers are Christian. Same thing with the USMC stickers. NO MEAT might as well be TICKET ME in most of the US.
WV nintlamb - an oxymoron.
I know, Knox, right? Those people piss me off. What's with those fish magnets on the cars too? I mean please, have some public decency.
Are you trying to catch me in a double-standard? Putting your religion on your car is pointless, too. There, happy now?
Revenant,
excellent point.
Putting your religion on your car is pointless, too.
Too? What do you mean, too? Whole Foods, hybrid and "Free Palestine" is this person's religion.
I did make it to Whole Foods around lunchtime. The store was quite busy.
I wondered if there were going to be any exploding heads when I parked my big ass GMC Yukon XL with the retired military plates, the Navy base pass, and the Boy Scouts youth applications on the seat legally in the handicapped space in front of the store.
No evidence of explosions.
Nice store. Beautiful selection of cheeses. Nice selection of gluten free foods (relatives and friends of mine have celiac disease) and they had my greek yogurt.
wv: prowydro ~ as opposed to an amateur wydro.
"NO BFO," perhaps?
These are some of the the stupidest, most vile, hateful anti-Semitic comments I have ever seen. Congrats to you anti-Semitic (= racism, oh, yes...it does!) morons, you're full of fiber!
