"It is noon, Jan. 20, 2013. Sarah Palin raises her right hand to be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States."

"Palin had won a decisive victory over the incumbent, Barack Obama. The country was still trapped in economic rubble, and voters had tired of Obama's campaign slogan, 'I Inherited This.'"

Some others have pointed this out about Social Security, but I just want to remind people that the plan is, at least right now, a small welfare plan hidden inside a forced retirement savings program. It was done this way intentionally, so that the public support for the retirement savings portion would cover the welfare side.

But dropping the cap on contributions, but not benefits, would sever this tie, and as a result, the bigger the gap between what people put in and what they can get out of the system, the less that it will appear like a forced savings retirement program, and the more that it will look like welfare.

Yes, the Democrats seem to be cutting their noses off in spite of their faces right now, with their biggest recent bills. For awhile, they will likely be able to divert extra proceeds into other areas. But, in the long run, the program will lose a lot of its legitimacy, if the tie between contributions and recovery is broken.

Synova - I agree. We need to get over the idea that insurance should cover maintenance rather then catastrophic care. Rush made a good point today about there isn't auto insurance that covers oil changes, tire rotations.

Since this post was originally about Palin:

"Just weeks before she plans to step down from her position as Alaska governor, Palin signed House Joint Resolution 27, sponsored by state Rep. Mike Kelly on July 10, according to a Tenth Amendment Center report. The resolution "claims sovereignty for the state under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States."

Alaska's House passed HJR 27 by a vote of 37-0, and the Senate passed it by a vote of 40-0.
"

Several other states have passed similar resolutions and one other governor (so far) has signed.

I can see it now... "And just *where* in the Constitution of the United States is the right to control health care enumerated?"

Alex বলেছেন...

The right to health care... because Jeremy said so.

No, because the voters consider it one of the top 3 issues. And now form a bigger single issue lobby than gun owners.

(Between people fearing loss of it if they lose their job, the 16 million who have gone through medical bankruptcy, the 19 million denied coverage for pre-existing conditions. And the social justice crowd that feels it is just a disgrace that the US is such an outlier. And the business community that says we cannot compete internationally if we shell out 50% more per capita on medical spending.)

Interestingly, in other countries, illegal aliens don't get free health care. Gov't workers don't get better benefit deals. And prisoners get less benefits/access than the working poor.

Since the thread is about Palin... Franken's satire wasn't that good, IMO.

Jeremy is the same idiot who said that gas would hit $5 a gallon last December. He also said the surge wouldn't work and that if Obama was elected he would shut down Gitmo and would immediately pull all the troops out of Iraq.

He is a constant reminder of what the democratic party is all about. I hope he never quits posting here.

I would be interested in your source for this. Last I knew, it was 5 or 6. My guess is that it is that it depends on how the questions are asked.

Also, as you probably know, if the questions are asked in the specific, instead of the general, support for the legislation plummets.

Bush inherited a budget surplus of $128 billion in 2001. (Budget experts projected a $710 billion surplus for 2009 when he came into office.)

But the deficit soon exploded, thanks largely to the Bush tax cuts — which accounted for 42 percent of the deficit.

When Bush left office, he handed President Obama a projected $1.2 trillion budget deficit for this year, the largest ever.

As for the debt, when President Bush took office, it was $5.73 trillion. When he left, it was $10.7 trillion.

He also inherited a nice little recession, stock market meltdown, and a corporate accounting scandal so pervasive that there were concerns that nobody would ever invest in the market again.

Difference between Bush and Obama? Bush didn't whine and, in fact, fixed the problems.

Really?

And you base this on what?

No more Republicans in Congress?

Duh.

Democrat majorities in both Houses and their well-known refusal to talk to anybody who isn't a Democrat.

Funny, the spending of "Bush" got really out of hand in 2007. Did something change in the 2006 elections?

Are you saying the Republicans haven't held the majority in Congress for 12 of the past 14 years?

Dems ran the Senate 2001-2. So, no, they didn't.

It's really not about "misdirection," but the fact that campaigns and campaign promises are changed after elections. Everything you said could be said about every politician on the planet.

Hey, wasn't Obama's campaign based upon change?

I just don't defend your right to comment on something you haven't or can't read.

Ironically, Obama ALSO hasn't read it.

I also have to ask, if Jeremy was a virulent homophobe --- could anybody tell the difference?

If Palin were a Goddess she would be unknown to mankind. Fore as it is written that one from the North will arise, in fire and ice, and bring sobriety to those suffering in the anxiety of their time. They will feast on moose burgers and cleanse their pallets on Alaskan lemon sorbet. So shall it be, let it be done.

I remain completely stunned that anyone, anywhere, ever would want this person to be leader of the free world.

It's not about politics to me. She could agree with me about EVERYTHING and I'd feel the same way.

My gripe about Sarah Palin is the fact that she's a stark raving idiot. I wouldn't let her babysit my kids, or even ask her to water my plants when I'm travelling.

Eli Blake বলেছেন...

I can see it now:

September 2013:

Domestic advisor: Madam President, we are still losing jobs, unemployment is still rising, housing starts are down and it looks like inflation is back.

Foreign advisor: Madam President, the war between Israel and Hezbollah, Hamas and Syria shows no signs of slowing down, the Russians are invading Ukraine and daring you to do something about it, Iran just tested a nuke and North Korea has just moved its entire army to the border with South Korea.

Political advisor:Madam President, your poll numbers are down and people are marching in the streets demanding that you do something to get them back to work.

Sarah Palin: "In that case, I QUIT!"

And the women's movement would be set back fifty years.

Synova বলেছেন...

Suzie... you should be comfortable with stark raving idiots running the country, after all, we've got Obama.

hdhouse বলেছেন...

This thread was about the improbable twit Palin raising her right hand.....first of all someone telling her which was her right hand.....

Someone needs to figure out a way to clear this empty suit out of any headline teaser and put her back to the national enquirer where her brains match the readership.\

As to the "I inherited this"...well he did. the hapless Bushbuttboys on here, who had a president who had no responsibility for the first year (remember 9-11 was conveniently clinton's fault) and of course the current fiscal mess is now Obama's fault because how could Bush have even noticed the sun rising in his last year...

some on here are so desperate that they glob onto a dimwit and their war cry is blame it on someone else....now that is leadership ya'betcha...

Hoosier Daddy বলেছেন...

Hi hdhouse. Did the nurse change your Depends today because you actually wrote something coherent. I mean its your usual left wing claptrap but you actually made complete sentences this time. Very good.

MadisonMan বলেছেন...

My prediction came true.

The Dude বলেছেন...

Wow, even for hdhouse, that is some garbled writing.

"Glob" onto? The word you were so desperately seeking is "glom". But in your world words don't really matter.

Nor does spelling or grammar or punctuation. Just keep writing - you may be the best example of liberal intelligence on this site.

And the name calling you do certainly elevates your rhetoric. Keep trying hdh - eventually you will, like a chimp randomly striking keys, write in English.
