A Chip Ahoy photoshop:
No, I am not annoyed the death of Michael Jackson has overshadowed the protests in Iran because in my world the life and death of Jackson are more immediate and important than the political life of that nation of wankers who brought that despicable government upon themselves and in so doing inflicted it upon all the rest of us. I care not at all their access to technology is being denied by that same government because it was they who rejected the pace of modernization to begin with and demonized our culture in the process, a state of affairs in which they, as a whole, persist. So bite me....
To celebrate my lack of annoyance I've Photoshopped Althouse of the lily pond by way of distraction.

Good show Chip!
Ann, I know you are just spouting off but half of the people living in Iran are under thirty years old. So, they have had as much to do with the formation of their country as you have had to do with the founding of ours. I guess the difference is that they are in the street fighting for a new Iran. That is pretty impressive to me.
God, Ann, can't someone change their mind?
Jees.
Chip, what all do you need to do that kind of stuff (other than talent)?
John, what is needed is Gimp. Forget Photoshop -- too expensive and overly complex. Gimp is an excellent image editor, much easier to learn, and it animates too, best of all it's free. Read a few online tutorials to get started. Get accustomed to thinking of photos as a stack of transparencies, and as the image you're using tools to adjust as one of the layers in that stack. Learn to move between layers and learn to re-stack them. Change the stack of duplicated and adjusted layers into frames, and animate the frames as a movie by saving as a GIF file. Every question you have along the way is answered directly and concisely on the internet.
By practice you become adept at picking and using tools. I just finished making 2,000 computer files created in Photoshop and copied to rtfd files, so now my mouse flicks directly to the required tool automatically. I could do it blindfolded. <--- 30% of exaggeration.
I'm just quoting Chip. And I think he's horsing around.
Thanks Chip. I checked out the website and downloaded the app. In case you were wondering, I will not post my results.
Regards,
Ann, I just caught that. Sorry.
Oh, good. I thought you were just spouting off. (Which I do all the time by the way.)
Also, I have little issue about the media focusing on MJ's passing. He was obviously one of the most famous people in the world and the media is chasing their tails with dollars attached.
Maureen Dowd is pitch perfect today.
Althouse won't link because it isn't about how Hilary is awful or Obama is Obami but it it perfect.
Republicans stop being self righteous. Your moralistic, self righteous days are over. You hyprocrites.
Chip, I really think your animations are terrific and add immensely to the Althouse website cache. Once upon a time, it was all about words, but those days seem to be over. Ann knows that, I think, hence her wonderful photography to mix things up a bit. We seem to be a nation that likes a little "glitter", as well.
I know you have taken it upon yourself to do these animations here based on the spirit that moves you, Chip. I think it would be even better if you and Althouse worked together on some of this. I don't know, maybe you could call it "Althouse Punktuation", since you always have an edge with your visuals, as she does with her insight. Just some food for thought.
On a separate note, I am always impressed with people who are "self taught". You make it sound easy, Chip, when the less adventuresome among us, know that it is not.
Welcome back, Titus, and again, very sorry for your loss.
Now, that said....
Righteous Republicans, you say?
What a SNAPPY phrase!
We get it! Republicans to the right of the Democrats and, oh my, GOD even gets into the picture for the far righteous.
So, um...I know you are under some stress because one of your clumbers died, but seriously...what's up with this hypocrite stuff?
Is there any among us who has not been called so at one time or another?
We should all wish for the day when our words and our actions are one. You and me included, Titus.
Taking down the government of Iran has the potential to prevent nuclear war. The people and protesters of Iran deserve our full support in their efforts.
On the other side, we must ask, did Ahmadinejad kill Michael Jackson? Is he that clever?
Thanks Ann, you posting is impressive.
Chip failed first-grade arithmetic. The Islamic revolution was thirty years ago, and most of the voters in Iran weren't born. To say that they brought it on themselves is either amazingly ignorant or just plain malicious.
Which is it, "Chip"? Ignorant or malicious?
Who cares anyway, when there's a child molester we can eulogize!
Even if, by some miracle. the protesters caused a change of government in Iran, I doubt that much would really change.
They wouldn't start singing "We Are The World" and holding hands with Israelis. They probably wouldn't shut down the nuclear program. Heck, they probably wouldn't even stop hanging gays for being gay.
So hope and dream all you like, but know that Iran is a country that is rotten to the core and it will never embrace western values.
We don't even embrace them here in the west now, so why should they?
Chip, when I read your comment I first thought "He has a guy in an S&M suit in a box, and that's how the work gets done?"
Then I continued reading and realized that it is early, I need caffeine, and the whole world is not Pulp Fiction.
The UK Daily Mail has a bunch of amazing Michael Jackson stories out today. Drudge linked to this one, which is blowing my mind.
If the Ahmedinijad government falls, Iran WILL have embraced a powerful western value: Democracy.
More importantly for our purposes, if Iran's government falls, the people will have broken the mullahs' stranglehold on power.
That by itself is a HUGE step - without which no further liberalization is possible.
They won't love Israelis tomorrow. But so what? Once the mullahs are swept from power and chased back to the mosques where they belong, then the new government may be a less delusional negotiating partner, and may respond more favorably to diplomatic pressure, sanctions, etc. to drop their nuclear weapons programs, if we make sure it is in their interests to do so.
I await the creation of democracy in Iran. It's not going to happen. First of all, the mullahs have the power and the guns. Second, the protesters are not trying to get democracy started, they are trying to replace one despot with another. Good luck with that, but in the end, Iranians get the government they deserve.
"a state of affairs in which they, as a whole, persist."
Not if greater numbers have anything to do with how you define "a whole".
And it's nice to know that your spite provides you a good excuse for not caring about American interests and undoing what has been "inflicted... upon all the rest of us."
Very childish, Chip.
Montana, Raise your game. Chip is being satirical.
A people are responsible for the government that they allow to rule them.
I'm all for the people of Iran overthrowing their government, but they're about thirty years too late.
In fact they'd better find a way to overthrow that government soon or, in a just world, they might find themselves being held to answer for its actions in a most unpleasant way.
What is needed is not only an overthrow of the Iranian government, but also of the Westphalian order and its successor, the UN, that isolates the people from responsibility for their government. This allows barbaric governments to operate with impunity because it is too difficult for other nations to deal with a barbaric government without harming the people. Yet it is always the people that allow the government to exist.
So, I'm not so much cheering for the movement in Iran as I am feeling as though they are late to the party. Better late than never, but it's their responsibility to act, and they had better get on with it.
My bad. I didn't realize the extent of the satire and perceived the cynicism regarding Iran to be genuine.
Okay, I am vaguely aware of how "robert" was the name I posted under. It's an odd circumstance. But I'm not "robert," I'm Skyler. Sorry for appearing to be a puppet.
For some reason, the phrase 'horsing around,' made me laugh.
Chip Ahoy is some kind of mad genius with the photoshop.....I wonder what a photoshop of the cap-n-trade bill as a giant cr*p sandwich would look like? Or, has that been done already?
i love this one
very terry gilliamish
