"I inhaled. Frequently. That was the point."

Here's a folky political protest song (via Nick Gillespie, who's not amused by Obama's flippant response to the marijuana question the other day):

While it isn't an easy issue, Obama opens himself up to scorn by being so flippant and dismissive. It shows arrogance and elitist hypocrisy.

Had he ever been caught smoking weed he most likely would not be our President right now. He would not have been able to become a State Senator to begin with, or maybe would have gotten kicked out of Harvard or not have become the editor of the Harvard Law Review. Or not nominated by the Democrats out of fear.

For him to chuckle about this, while police and judges were arresting, fining and and imprisoning people as was speaking, is despicable.

There are thousands of black (and white) men in jail right now who are smarter and have more integrity than Obama, and would no doubt make a better President than he.

It shows arrogance and elitist hypocrisy.

So, on other words, he was just being himself.

It's amusing to see many of the folks who voted for him getting thrown under that limitless bus.

It's wonderful to see that even on a Saturday morning that the drama queens are ready to come out in force. And to be fair, although we know that THAT ain't happening on this blog, he answered the question about Marijuana and the Economy. His administration has already set policies to begin the decriminalization of pot which is a whole lot more than the last two administrations. But let's not let facts get in the way of your Arrogant/Messiah talking points.

Invisible Man - The Guardian UK blog:"Drug Enforcement agents yesterday raided a medical marijuana dispensary in San Francisco, a week after US Attorney General Eric Holder said federal authorities would no longer prosecute providers that are not otherwise in violation of state laws.

Yesterday, agents raided Emmalyn's California Cannabis Clinic, hauling out plants and growing equipment. The dispensary, which gives out free marijuana to the poor once a week, had a temporary city permit allowing it to operate."

So far it is all talk.

Well, he's right. That was the point. His answer beats "I didn't inhale."

Obama's main problem is that when he tries to be funny, he isn't. He thinks he is very cool, and has always been told that he is.

I don't want him to be cool. Or funny. Just be President.

Bush apparently could be hilariously funny in private. He had the sense not to try humor in public. (Yes, I know. Someone will say his entire Presidency was a joke.)

Pot will not be decriminalized to any meaningful degree under his administration. I will lay a bet on that.

But you keep on believing what he says.

I am told that in CA, the police get to auction off and keep the proceeds for the dept. from anything they take during a bust whether from a drug dealer or an open medicinal weed store (of which there are many) - which is quite the conflict of interest as far as legalization - temptations of Mammom and all that- especially if the budget falls short.

Except that John Lennon's widow is on record as being as effusive as anyone about Obama of the Hopey Change - as would Lennon no doubt be if he were alive.

It's different when it's *your* son of tricky dicky soft soaping you with a pocketful of hope. ;-).

I think I heard that Sarah Palin tried pot once, but that it wasn't illegal in Alaska at the time.

I'm a conflicted libertarian on the issue of pot legalization. I'd want legalization to be accompanied by a strong and very clear message that "legal" has nothing to do with approval. Drugs, including pot, are bad.

The part where my libertarian tendencies are in conflict is the next bit after "make it legal" which is "and tax the snot out of it."

Two things:

1) Nobody discusses crime when they talk about this.

2) Shouldn't this be linked to your "Lost ... control of the van" post?

I love the fact that we have an honest president that doesn't beat around the bush when asked this question
