What's "TRL"? They never define it.

Oh, is that the music video show that MTV made when they decided to stop being a channel that showed music videos? Never watched it.

When did that guy become anorexic?

Dust Bunny Queen ayon kay ...

Never heard of it. What's TRL?

Snoop Dog misting up. Oh, the humanity.

Will I miss it? Looks like I missed it all along, not even aware it existed. How lucky can I be?

Total Request Live.

Never seen it, except referenced or parodied in movies.

I have no idea who or what we're talking about.

Worst trash...........ever.

Bring back the 80s - music videos!

As one who was a teenager during the late 90's and early 00's all I can say is "Thank God".

I hated that show, and successfully avoided it for almost it's entire run. The only time I watched it with any regularity was when my best friend was obsessed with Puff Daddy (in those dark days when he was butchering Sting).

Never watched it, music videos in the early 80s and MTV were something worth watching, now the channel ranks below the Home Shopping Network on my list. That is to say, pretty low.

Thank you Blake. Now I know I'm not a sociopath. I can cry; I just don't want to right now.

I'm 37, so of course I know what TRL is. It started when I was 27, just about the time I was watching the latest "The Real World" and thinking, I'm way too old to be watching this stuff.

Once, long ago, there was a cable channel that showed music videos. Over time, they grew bored, and began to create their own TV shows. TRL was something my kids watched irregularly. My daughter ran into Carson Daly on the streets of NYC and was beside herself ...he talked to her. He was nice to a 14 year old, so I won't criticize.

But what the hell happened to that channel? It became skank plaza, Grand Genital Station, with shows full of disgusting and hateful people. One needed to take antibiotocs and douse in bleach after watching The Real World or its odious cousins.

It's like MTV got addicted to crack; the plumber's crack, the shabby and grotesque, the ugly and vain.
I mean, I Love New York?? Wotthebloodyhellizzat? Why is someone giving that 'woman' a mic or a camera instead of a swift kick in the ass?

I was in 7th grade when that show came on the air. All TRL's finale reminds me of is the awkwardness of adolescence coupled with the pains of trying to fit in and failing miserably, and my terrible taste in music.

So, no, I will not be mourning this funeral.

cry? only if you're a TRL viewer.

It's like a funeral for our youth.

But since funerals are such a downer, we'll skip it and catch the good parts on You-Tube...

Never watched a single episode. Knew about it, though.

Which channel does "pop up videos"?
My kid loves those. I kind of do, too. But that's the extent of my music video exposure in recent history. Well, except for "Big Hair Bands", or something like that...we liked that, too.

...which has just reminded me of Scorpions, and how I always forget to list them as one of my faves.

kjbe ayon kay ...

I only watched it when my daughter did - don't really think 40-something mom's were the target audience.

Is this "TRL"er Trash the people who are replacing boomers in their absolute self absorbed self regard?

Richard Fagin ayon kay ...

I admit it. I have never, ever watched MTV. No, really. I haven't. Never.

paul a'barge ayon kay ...

don't watch MTV
don't know what TRL stands for
don't care

Life is a long-wavelength phenomenon. Youth doesn't pass just because a bunch of celebrity mutts no longer appear on a show. It passes naturally. One day you look down and youth goes away and your butt starts to sag.

Oh well.

I used to watch Dick Clark. Then I got old, but Dick Clark didn't. Dick Clark's Dance Party lasted longer than the youth of several generations.....Dick Clark used to be considered America's teen ager, but the strain of being forever young caused him to have a stroke. There's probably a moral somewhere in all this.

Pogo, you're right. MTV went from a channel that was really fun to watch to being pretty all-around repulsive. Really, with "Spring Break" and all, it couldn't get any worse.
