I noticed earlier today that CSPAN was covering an anti-war protest at the GOP convention. Hmm. Don't remember them covering any of the protests at the dem convention.
The picture of the riot police and the dad and daughter bothered me...mostly because the girl is about my daughter's age and if that were me and her I'd be pretrified.
The poor Westie...I mean I love the patriotic colour scheme but you got to know it doesn't want to have to endure the scrubbing its going to take to get that off.
And what the hell is with the "Miami" sign?? Protesting David Caruso maybe?? Weird.

They did, the first day. The Denver police also made a number of arrests that day and detained them at their short term detention center created especially for the convention (a.k.a. "Gitmo in the Rockies.") They also had a lot more riot police out in Denver, which prevented the protesters from getting as unruly as they did in Minnesota.
So in the end the protests in Denver became a non-event, but it has nothing to do with CNN. It has to do with the Denver police being a lot more proactive in preventing any violence compared with the police in St. Paul.
Why didn't they take pictures of the state fair (which apparently ended today?) You could get bacon on a stick, hot dogs on a stick, coupons on a stick, pork chops on a stick, watermelon on a stick, pancakes on a stick, etc. (after all, it is the Minnesota state fair and they love everything on a stick.
I actually think that dad had no business carrying his little girl there-- She was probably petrified, and its the kind of thing that will probably make her grow up and be afraid of police.
Plus, there was obviously the possibility of violence (clearly there was, since there was some today) and what would he do if, for example, someone started throwing rocks at the police and they responded with pepper spray and water cannons. Would he want his five year old to get pelted with stones, sprayed with pepper spray and maybe hit with a stray rubber bullet? He was stupid, stupid, stupid!
I've gone to my share of protests and demonstrations, and my kids are well versed in political discourse (they sometimes go door to door with me in my position as a precinct committeeman) but I'd never take my kids to a demonstration if there was any possibility (even a remote one) that it might turn violent.
Oh, by the way-- they were just interviewing Senator Obama on CNN (mostly about New Orleans, Gustav and Katrina) and the last question he got asked was about the contention that Sarah Palin has 'executive experience' that Obama (as well as McCain and Biden for that matter) lacks. He had obviously researched his answer well, and pointed out that his campaign (which he is the head of) has like 2,000 employees right now while she was the mayor of a town with 50 employees. Now, running a campaign is obviously different than running a government but it was a great answer, putting running a campaign into the mix (which slipped seamlessly by the newsman)-- especially since he can point out that 1) he and John McCain have the same executive experience-- running a campaign, and 2) if that argument takes hold then McCain's campaign budget meltdown last year and problems with campaign finance and a bank loan this year will actually give Obama a way to argue that his success at running a campaign suggests he would be a better executive than McCain.

If the best results of his "research" were that running for President counts as Presidential experience, I'd recommend he return to the lab and fiddle with test tubes a little longer.

I fail to see how this beats McCain's military squadron command.
Besides which, the measure of how effectively a campaign is run is whether or not the candidate wins. So you've got sort of a chicken-and-egg problem there.
I don't doubt for a moment that he slipped it seamlessly past the newsman. They're not looking very hard. :)

Yes, indeed, I couldn't see Bulworth telling Dr. Strangelove what to do...
I'm just a bit curious. The Magazine HOLLYWOOD GOSSIP reported 0bama's profiles were found on the famous 40+ rich women seeking affairs site [ seeking40plus dot com ] last week and he was seeking his mature baby there now!
MM, yeah, what's so fascinating about that picture is that the police could be dressed like that but not intimidate the man or the child at all. They are just crossing the street.
I didn't say the girl in the picture was petrified, I said "I" would be petrified if that were me...because a column of riot police tends to unsettle me.

Why couldn't the dog have been a French poodle?

"Miami does not speak for me!"
What the hell could that possibly mean as a protest?
Finally, a picture of a dog urinating. In red white and blue no less.
Bravo!
Why is Lenny Kravitz kidnapping Ashley Olsen?
Just like Belfast!

Love the french style armpits.
Albatross asked what I was going to ask.
Is that first photo Sheryl Crow pleading for someone to date her since the one testicle bike riding guy dumped her?
The last photo is very funny - I'm glad that SOMEONE managed to make me laugh about politics today....

Why, if you don't mind my asking?
Also, if I had to guess, the Miami sign is probably an anti-Cuban-embargo thing.

Smart, smart way to answer the question.

Good luck with that logic.
Maybe Obama can ask Office Depot for a letter of recommendation.
Cheers,

I wonder whether the Miami thing refers to the Electoral College and the importance of FL therein in recent years.
Re: The girl with the Dad. If a 6-yo girl is being carried in her Dad's arms, and her arms aren't clamped tight around his neck, she isn't petrified.
