The Eagleton meme rests on the conclusory assertion that McCain somehow made a mistake and should drop her. And I'm still waiting for someone to answer my question: how a pick that has united and energized the GOP while driving the left into counterproductive apoplexy can possibly be called a mistake.

It depends who wins the election, doesn't it? If McCain's poll numbers start going up and stay up, I think we can all agree that it was a good choice. And if that doesn't happen, we'll be able to agree it was a mistake.
You say the Palin selection has unified the GOP, but I am unaware of the evidence for that claim. She certainly has energized and unified the Christianist base (the American Taliban), but they only account for, what? About 25% of the population? And maybe half of the tradition GOP constituency?
I know a lot of Republicans, but only a handful of them are the ultra-right wing Taliban types who are so delighted with Palan. But then, I work in corporate America. The Republicans I know vote Republican because they want tax cuts, less regulation, and cheap fuel for their speedboats and yachts. It has nothing to do with the evangelical, fundamentalist Christianity.
Obama is not qualified to be President. Frankly, I'm betting that even you don't think Obama's qualified. But I'll also bet that you are so anti-conservative, taking the "anything is better than the Republicans" route that you are willing to vote for the most unqualified candidate ever for President and take a risk with his obvious attempts to revive failed policies of the past (for example, there is no economist of any stripe who has come forward who believes that Obama's give away and multiple government program promises can even begin to be paid for).
Can't defend your choice so you can only go after the 2nd place on the other ticket?
Verso: Admit it. You're just P.O.'d that MCCain caught you off guard. You thought you were gonna have another easy couple of weeks, blogging from P-town, recycling some canned McRomney riffs or something.
And I'm still waiting for someone to answer my question: how a pick that has united and energized the GOP while driving the left into counterproductive apoplexy can possibly be called a mistake.
It's only a mistake to Beltway insiders who never heard of her, but moreover, didn't want to. All those Governor Conferences at the White House? Who cares. Janet Napolitano got more face time on the cable shows than she did.
And God knows, someone should roast in hell for making us endure that mug.
As for Eagleton, the visage of a depressed mope with his finger on the nuclear button just didn't resonate. It didn't in 1972, and I'd bet it still doesn't. Maybe somewhere down the road.
Hey, Eagleton meme-pushers. You know McGovern said "If had it to do over again, I’d have kept him."
Yeah? So what? I think you miss the point of the analogy.
So what would happen if Barack Obama's wife belonged to an anti-American 3rd party that claims to hate the United States?
What kind of shit storm would ensue?
Democrats received a gift last friday. Any further comment on the matter reveals that you don't understand the gift democrats were given.
Be patient and just enjoy the online delusion you are witnessing, savor it and have fun with it. Reading this stuff for entertainment is one thing, but actively engaging this conversation at this stage is borderline insane.
Remember, it's a gift. You only have two months to enjoy this gift.
Why would you engage and waste your energy on something or someone that is simply not worthy of engagement? You must not know any hardcore republicans in real life and are therefore assigning too much value to the things you are reading online from the nutjobs.
Go talk to a white, male republican(from any region but the south) in real life. You will immediately realize there is nothing left to discuss on the matter of any value whatsoever.
Live it up and relax buddy. Rather than post, write down some of the nutjob quotes you read with date and time. You can antagonize the nutters and dead-enders with these quotes down the road. Enjoy.
"Why would you engage and waste your energy on something or someone that is simply not worthy of engagement?"
Yes! This is an excellent strategy! Palin is definitely not worth your valuable time. You should immediately stop thinking about her, stop engaging her, stop countering anything she says. This is excellent advice for acolytes of Obama. Palin's not worth your time! Just forget about her!
Both Obama and Palin are qualified to be president.
No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.

Hmm, gotta rule out any one with mental problems, especially in earlier times when even less was known about them.
So first out is Lincoln (friends once stayed with him to make sure he didn't get his hands on a knife) and next is W. S. Churchill ("black dog", quirkily medicated by self and Dr. Moran).
To us American Taliban sorts, i.e, bitter-Americans, we don't consider McCain "stuck with Palin." We consider him lucky to have Sarah.
And to Verso, never forget, those of us that you dismiss as "Taliban types" are the ones with the guns, who know how to use them, and you don't. So when the SHTF....
BTW the first two candidates that I worked hard for were George McGovern and Jimmy Carter. I've grown up since then.
And I'm a conservative-libertarian non-practicing Catholic.

sarah needs to realize that if she does an eagleton, no republican is willing to risk his political future to become mccain's replacement VP.
not even romney, who wanted the VP position earlier, will stoop that low. Not even Huckabee.
so mccain is really stuck with palin, for better or worse.

Who cares? Why is that relevant? Why are you incapable of staying on topic?

Ya think it's finally penetrating McCain's noggin that the MSM ain't on his side?
barack's buddies with unrepentant terrorist ayres and radical racist preacher jeremiah wright for 20 years, plus the crook rezko, but who cares?
what, the media don't like mccain anymore? why?
So Verso, et al.

if palin was pressured to do an eagleton, but nobody in the repub party want's to take her place, isn't that more embarassing to mccain?
all alone versus obama/biden?

They've reached the point in the relationship where they've met someone new and are looking for an excuse to break it off.
while driving the left into counterproductive apoplexy
And right here in Verso we have our own little Exhibit "A" of that eye-bulging spittle-flying apoplexy. Relax. We're winning, folks.

All those Governor Conferences at the White House?
They should be arranged alphabetically by state in that picture. That would be helpful. Sarah Palin is in the right spot (heh), but is anyone else?

Charlie Crist is missing from that photo, MadMan. I found that strange.

Oh it's not just Palin- he's always like that.

Experience is an option.
Hmm. Maybe someone should ask Ms. Palin about her ability to create.... vortexes.
McGovern could hardly have done any worse keeping Eagleton than he did by dumping him. So why not continue to back him 1000%?
So what would happen if Barack Obama's wife belonged to an anti-American 3rd party that claims to hate the United States?
God Damn America, eh, Verso?
It doesn't seem to be a problem to belong to an anti-American 2nd party....
