"I’m disgusted with him."

Lefty Obama supporters displeased. He's — oh no! — a politician... but he was supposed to be different... blah blah blah...

Were the swooning Obama supporters of yore really in love with him, or were they in love with the idea of themselves in love with loving him? They're remembering how beautiful they were back then, when it looked like this:

"Yes We Can"... but, no, we can't even recapture the feeling of the past that was only a few months ago. It's nostalgia now.

Of course, he's a politican. Time to participate in reality. It's beautiful too.

Nah. They just like the song. They don't care who the singer is.

Ah, "swooning" as a disparagement. What an incisive analysis!

Be cautious, though; the romantic archetype is ...

Boy meets girl.
Boy loses girl.
Boy gets girl.

Obama is the messiah, he cometh with truth.

He taxeth the wealthy and giveth me new programs.

He taketh not my paltry earnings, but giveth me the money earneth by others.

He endeth the war and retreateth from victory.

He speaketh with mine enemies, both great and minor.

He asketh them to forbear and desist.

He taketh the profits of oil companies and keepeth it for the government.

He lowereth the price of gasoline by making it more difficult to drilleth for oil.

He opposeth fracturing the atom to generate electricity, but demandeth that my car be powered by electrons.

He transcendeth race by declaiming his whitheth mother and grandethparents who raiseth him after his blacketh father skeedaddleth back to Africa.

He associateth with radicals and crooks, both blacketh and whiteth, ignoring their color and loveth only their influence and money.

He promiseth anything in the name of vote seeking.

He lieth through his teeth.

Peeeel the onion.

Ultimately you have to show your colors.

In a democracy: You can fool some of the people all of the time........but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

And that is a beautiful thing.

He slayeth the wench with large thighs.

He pulleth the wool over mine eyes.

He sayeth things opposite, and claimeth both true.

Yea varily I say unto you, those who truly believeth he will screw.

"We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

It was a stupid statement when he said it, and it's now an indicator of how stupid people who are still thinking about voting for this man are.

Hold on, Hillary, there is still a chance.

Okay, that video was creepy. They actually memorised swaths of his speeches almost as one would Biblical pieces.

And then they put it to song.

Thank God when I was a kid, when artists decided to get together for a good cause and sing in a mic, it was for alleviating world hunger.

We are the Obamans
We are the Cultists
We are the ones who tell you who to believe in
So get with the programme

It's that pathetic 17 year old Stanley Ann Dunham and the married Kenyan guy all over again.

The White girl swooning over the Great Black God........and then finding out he's a dog like the rest of the merely White guys.

I'm holding back the tears.

A great thought for heavily Jewish Team Axelrod and the writing talent behind the "honey-dripper's" oratory. Not to mention his Jewish billionaire sugar-daddies and mommas.

Not since Riefenstahl's "Triumph of the Will" has a candidate been better packaged! Congrats, Soros, Axelrod, the Pritzkers, Crowns, and Geffens!

Oh yes, hold back those tears!
A black dog sniffs the air for the scent of jungle fever. He arrives, does his "thang" as long as it doesn't cost anything - then scratches his ears, licks his balls, and moves on to the next conquest. Any pups can be taken care of by the taxpayers or parents of the jungle fever sufferer.

White dogs, low they may be, are expected to at least stick around a bit out of obligation to the bitch and loyalty to help raise the pups. Failing that, to pay out monthly to keep the bitch and pups well-kenneled and in the Alpo.

Though what you said is gritty, I think that allusion is closer to truth than we're comfortable admitting.

Interestingly, you know, since I don't have any kind of emotional investment in Obama, I have not been more disappointed by him with his "recalibrations", and therefore, I have no rage inside me about him.

I can still see his positive points (which are not nonexistent), and just shrug away his inconsistencies.

If you bought into his jive to begin with, you must either be unbelievably idealistic, very very young, or very very unworldly.

I think Obama supporters are often all three and that's deadly.

Cheers,
Victoria

You don't have to fool all the people all the time. You just have to fool a majority until the polls close.

It's a cult of personality, and those rarely end well. If we're lucky, Jonestown. If not - show trials and the Gulag. Which will it be? Well, he's already cued up his Nuremberg rally

Team O is reaping the downside of a campaign built on an appeal to autobiography, where O's political personality is mostly unformed. People read into O what they wanted to see, but the simple truth is that O is so young and untested at this level that there is really very little at the core of it all. When he abandons the positions that his primary campaign was based on, there is no center to him that anyone can invoke to explain it. Instead, as Rev. Wright said, it's just what politicians do all the time-- the ordinary kind that O said he wouldn't be -- and for all the usual reasons of political expediency.

McCain presents the polar opposite. His campaign, too, is ultimately about autobiography, but in his case the political personality is completely formed. Where O's campaign is projecting an image of a politician driven by expediency above principle, McCain's campaign is driven by a soldier's sense of personal honor - it's what makes his POW experience relevant, and also why he can't keep on script on issues where his sense of honor conflicts with political expediency (e.g., on immigration). McCain keeps reminding me of the soldiers described in McPherson's other great book about the Civil War -- For Cause and Comrades: Why Men Fought in the Civil War. The sense of honor, the imperative to do one's duty and not to let the other guy down in the common fight no matter what, is what makes him tick.

The coming election campaign will end up as the battle between those two autobiographies: America's first black candidate for President, who reminds us just by running what is great about America but who (despite his personal charm) has little that is great or even centered about himself; and the aging soldier-hero, who reminds us about service and honor and sacrifice, all of which he personifies, that made America great in the first place.

So what would be better in a president -- one driven by expediency above all else, or one driven by a sense of honor? Rasmussen reports today that the race between the two is dead even. I have to think that bodes better for McCain than O.

What struck me was one of the quotes at the end of the article: "Seventy-five thousand people do not attend political rallies unless something truly magical is happening."

It betrays the ideology as circular. 'This is special because we are all there and we are all there because it is special.' It gets to the point that who and what 'this' is doesn't matter.

Didn't he admit in one of his books that the criticism that he's a blank canvas onto which people project their own politics is how he sees his appeal too? The difficulty with having that kind of appeal is that every time you draw on the canvas, the harder that makes it for the projection to work. When Obama voted for FISA, he wrote on the canvas, and those who had previously projected their own hostility to FISA onto Obama could no longer do so.

Latest Newsweek poll shows McCanin and Obama neck and neck - this early in the election cycle.

Obama had to keep the high ground, but is now ceding it in return for triangulation on the "center".

His cynical moves to match all of McMain's moves are yeilding the bitter fruit of showing what he is - a grasping Chicago pol, eager to leapfrog ahead of where his experience would normally put him and become President.

You have to have more than the normal amount of hubris to become President, and for all the image shaping of Obama as a man who could rise above petty politics, he shows that he's pretty good at it.

The Obama Messiah bargain was supposed to get us a candidate who was an anti-politican, who had strong principles and the "right" positions on all the right issues. The flip side was he didnt have any experience, but that was supposed to be good, because he wasn't tainted by Washington.

Now he's revealed as a classic Chicago machine politican with no principles, positions you can count on, AND no experience.
