Yes! I'm watching the "American Idol" finale!

Aren't you? I think the judges were pushing David Archuleta, the kid who really really wants to win, but I heard it through the grapevine that the winner is David Cook.

UPDATE: Told ya!

AND: I love the way people responded to the guy who didn't seem to care if he won, who wasn't needy about this. The vote was 56% to 44% — that's a huge margin. That means something. Cook is — despite the immense taint of "AI" — pretty damned cool.

Dish!

Or do you mean Marvin Gaye is rooting for him in heaven?

(I'm watching the repeat of the CL Final, but I'll be here later. This will be the first time I watch a whole AI final, I think)

First of all, I was rather surprised when Ryan told the percentages at the beginning... it wasn't close! That makes it more of a mystery to me.

I was excited about ZZTop being on, but dang... DC didn't really do that much with it. Was he intimidated?

Rick Lee said...

Was that DC in the Guitar Hero commercial?

Rick Lee said...

Here comes OneRepublic. Geez... who's NOT on this show?

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Look at that white republican crowd in Utah. That looks like Gods' country to me.

There isn't a dark complexion for miles.

Lots of blonde hair. Oh wait, David's grandpa has some color.

Chip Ahoy said...

Guru Pitka is Mike Meyers? I would have guessed Robin Williams. "Soon you will have hair in strange and wonderful places," is what made me think that.

The two Davids performed well together. If I were to download one, which I doubt, it'd probably be the short one. Archuleta is it? His tenor is slightly more clear and appealing.

kimsch said...

Yes that was DC as Tom Cruise from Risky Business in the Guitar Hero commercial.

Did it look to anyone else like Donna Summer had to be helped down the stairs? The two guys who walked down with her disappeared when she was on the stage.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Gladys Knight looks fierce. How old is she?

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Is that her now or like 20 years ago?

Am I high?

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

I would do Robert Downey Jr.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

OK, that can't be her now.

That was in 1960 right?

kimsch said...

1972.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

What is Carrie Underwood wearing?

Pure trash. That collar and wrap is hideous.

I would fuck her though.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

How did you know that Kimesh?

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Carrie Underwood looks like she stepped out of the set of Dynasty in 1985.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Linda Evans called and wants her dress back Carrie.

Ann Althouse said...

1. Yeah, Robert Downey Jr. rules.

2. David Cook in the Guitar Hero commercial--hysterical.

3. My grapevine = Dial Idol.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Was that Anne Heche? Traitor.

I heard she is broke.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Robert Downey is the ultimate in cool. I saw his recent movie, which is not my type of thing, and actually loved it.

He's wicket hot.

Chip Ahoy said...

OMG! Donna Summer brought down the house.

The chick who sang with her is equally fierce. The break dancing is a splendid update. Yes, it looked like they were helping her down the steps. Probably just to make sure absolutely nothing happened. The hips though, I guess it's just impossible for some to avoid the inevitable spread. I'm glad I saw that.

vbspurs said...

Repeat of the CL Final is over. Won't spoil the result on the off-chance someone has it taped, but let's say, if the AI final's half as exciting, I'll be happy.

Ooh, I missed Donna Summer? I will survive.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Not to change the subject but I am dreading the Sex In The City movie.

All the theaters are already sold out in New York for the May 30 debut-how gross.

I loved the tv program but they need to go away.

TimeOut New York has a cover with tape over their mouths and said no one wants to see them having sex anymore. I agree.

Hoosier Daddy said...

He's wicket hot.

Titus, I had no idea you were a cricket fan. You are indeed a man of the world.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Oh I missed Donna Summer. Was she hot?

She was from the projects in Dorchester Mass-not too far from Marky Mark.

Oh no the girls are not singing George Michael's faith. Help.

Although I of course have tickets to see him this summer.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

The chorogreaphy is hideous.

I do love this George Michael though. Father Figure.

Oh there is the gay stripper.

vbspurs said...

I share half your bemusement, Hoosier Daddy.

The other half likes that there is a shared national pasttime, which brings a large swath of the nation together, for one night, at least.

What else is there these days but this and the Super Bowl?

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

One of the rare clumbers is farting up a storm tonight.

Freedom-love it-the video to this song is hot. Linda Evangelista is a diva.

Is George Michael going to be appearing? I think he's gay.

vbspurs said...

What! I am totally looking forward to the SATC movie.

I wonder if Miranda turns ghey just like Cynthia Nixon did in real life? One can but hope, for the husbands dragged to the theatres.

al said...

I was excited about ZZTop being on, but dang... DC didn't really do that much with it. Was he intimidated?

Some things just should not be messed with...

I thought it was a good performance. Better than ZZ Top themselves during Speed Week at Daytona in February.

kimsch said...

Titus, Ryan said it was an audition for the Pips from 1972...

David A was cute in his guitar hero commercial.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

David A knows how to move his hips. Yes, he is gay.

George Michael-YEEEEEEEEEEEA.

I am screaming here.

He has an amazing voice.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

George Michael is looking older.

All the pot.

Oh, I love this song he is singing.

He has quite a few great songs.

vbspurs said...

Is that him? Yipes.

He looks like Gerri Halliwell meets Karl Lagerfeld, back during his Mafia Look.

He's dragging this classic song thru' the gutter.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

George Michael is making Paula cry.

Cynthia Nixons husband is a major bull dyke.

vbspurs said...

Dooo-dooo-dooo-ohhh-ohhh.

Oops! I think he just stumbled over the lyrics. Simon Scowels.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

"He's dragging this classic song thru' the gutter."

This wasn't his song originally?

vbspurs said...

So I heard. Or rather, saw. Cynthia Nixon looking 93 years-old, seated on a beach chair during last year's Gay Pride.

Happiness ages you. Look at George Michael.

vbspurs said...

I think it is. Could be wrong.

Wow, I didn't understand one word Michael told Seacrest. Sounded slurred Elvis in Hawaii.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) is my favorite SITC character. Also, she showed her tits which I like. Come to think of it they all did but Sarah Jessica Parker-because she is the true diva.

I can't stand her husband Steve though.

Too whiney.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

He has a cold Victoria-that is what he said.

Too much cock probably.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

So You Think You Can Dance. Cant wait.

Look at those bodies.

Yummm.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

OK, I am heading out for drinkies.

kimsch said...

George Michael was in a lot of Eli Stone episodes. Victor Garber's character was a fan-boy. Garber can really sing though!

vbspurs said...

Are these the two Davids?

I'm guessing Archuleta is the taller of the two??

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

I bet David Cook wins.

vbspurs said...

Ugh! Simon Cowell apologised for being too harsh (I'm guessing to Archuleta).

That's like Tony Blair apologising for being a knob.

vbspurs said...

ANN WAS RIGHT!!!!

vbspurs said...

Ahh, David Cook is the tall one. He's crying.

Seacrest is being tender to him. Wait, it's over??

Sucks.

al said...

Simon was apoligizing to David Cook. He was rather harsh to him last night while kissing David A's a**.

vbspurs said...

I'm sure George Michael wants in on that, Al.

(Thanks for the clarification!)

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

David A's father is going to beat him tonight.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

How mean to David A to tell him he lost by 12 million votes.

In other words isn't wasnt close bitch.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

Randy looks huge in that red jacket.

He looks like a black Santa.

ClaireDM said...

Seacrest needs a nap.

vbspurs said...

I'm sure I've heard that name before, Archuleta. Sports-related.

I'm also fairly sure that guy isn't he. :D

Over. Awww.

I hope Ann post-blogs the SITC movie. I'll be waiting.

(The Miranda character is great. My least favourite is Charlotte. My favourite, that Scouse lass, Kim Cattrall...obviously)

blake said...

Well, we've certainly come a long way from those heady days where Trooper was single-handedly Idol-blogging from a forgotten thread....

Palladian said...

Well now maybe that cute little faggot Archuleta can man up a bit and make a comeback in a few years.

al said...

Archuleta. Sports-related.

There used to be a Adam Archuleta on the Chicago Bears. I think there is one in baseball out on the west coast some where as well.

Anonymous said...

You called it, lady!

At least -- unbelievably -- the best contestant won.

vbspurs said...

There used to be a Adam Archuleta on the Chicago Bears.

That's the one!

Obama was in Kissimmee, FL (the city nearest Disney) today. Local Fox channel is showing that after the AI final.

Interesting that they cover him first, and not McCain who was actually HERE in Miami.

Anyway, it was fun. I'll try to be here next year for the next AI Final. God willing.

Cheers,
Victoria

Yesterday it was Hillary's wide margin...tonight it's Cook's taint.

Can you clean it up, please, Althouse?

kimsch said...

Victoria,

I transcribed Hillary's speech in Boca today... She thinks that Gore won Florida and that the US Supreme Court took the case away from the Florida Supreme court. She said that...

Chip Ahoy said...

I read a post on the Sartorialist that showed a window display with a bandana tied as a bow tie. The Sartorialist said he was intrigued and practiced tying it on the plane. He hinted it was a double knot but that's all he deigned to explained.

This concerned me and the unresolved issue appeared in a dream. Kim Cattrall was behind me messing with the bandana tied around my neck. It was annoying. Was she playing? Had I tied it wrong? Insufficiently NY to suit her? What? I grabbed the bandana out of her hands and practiced tying it right there in the classroom using the school desk for a surface. When I awoke that dream forced me to attempt tying a proper knot in real life. Thing is, I don't own a bandana so I used a dinner napkin. And this causes Kim Cattrall to slip from whatever fondness I might have held for her which turns out to be approximately 0.

George Michael is doing quite well. He's so eminently Yurpean.

I was told that the size of the taint doesn't matter. Of course that could have been wishful thinking.

I went to that Dial Idol site Ann mentioned, and apparently, the owner not only got the right winner -- he also got the right percentages!

Fixed?

Oh God, please. Let me not turn into one of those troofers.

- Kimsch, thanks! I shall definitely read up on that.

Curiously, after the Obama rally they showed that Hillary was in Coral Gables today (where her brother Hugh lives, BTW, and it's the ritziest neighbourhood in Miami -- she's desperately trying to get those greenbacks).

She didn't say anything as egregious as what you heard in Boca, but she pointed out a sign in the crowd which said:

"Not counting Votes is for Republicans"

Work it, Hillary! ...I hate her, but I've officially become an ABO (Anyone But Obama).

Cheers,
Victoria

I think Simon was critical of DC last night to perhaps generate some motivated callers. I think he would have won anyway but that percentage is pretty large. I'm glad the better performer won.

Yeah it means it's fixed, that's what it means. Archuleta had the voters, the teenyboppers, the bluehairs, he had 'em all. Cook in all his smug smirking a-holeness really had nobody that would go out of their way to vote for him. Not in mass repitive numbers. But still he wins? As if. Pff-tt.

Jennifer said...

Well, I can definitively say that if the season had gone on for another month, I believe I would have come to ♥ cookie. That was the best AI finale in years.

I just hope archie's dad doesn't hurt him. Thankfully, it looked like Clive Davis wants to put him in HIS pocket.

vbspurs said...

Kimsch, hope you see this as my comment submission failed at your blog.

Thought it was awesome. I see the Anchoress linked to it already, and I may at some future date too!

Thanks for the effort (you've also been blogrolled). ;)

kimsch said...

Thanks Victoria. I've blogrolled you too. I don't know why your comment didn't take.

This was actually a surprise this year. I actually thought David A would beat out David C! It's all good for ratings I'm sure! God bless! Padre Steve

Good for Cook! He is totally cool and pretty hot as well. I think he won because the older kids liked him better than David A and maybe more of them voted than the pre-teens. Or, Karl Rove's involved somehow...

AI is sort of a taint, but judging by all the stars who appeared tonight, the taint is lessening. The contestants who have good careers seem to make it independent of it.

Anonymous said...

And wasn't Ryan dancing in one of the numbers with the break dancers?

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

OK, I went out for drinkies with a friend of mine and he told me the entire this is fixed.

Do you think it is fixed fellow republicans and lovers of everything Bush has ever done?

Any illusion I may have once had about AI being on the level is gone.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

I am watching Amores Perros currently.

Gael Berncia (or whatever) tour de force. Although the dog fighting scenes are very difficult to watch. I hate to see dogs fighting.

But still the entire Mexican underworld is very hot and makes me really horny.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

I would totally be willing to live that life in Mexico City in a flat with my Mexican lover and his uncut hog and his parents on the first floor.

We would come down for dinner of chimichangas and rice and beans and then go back to our 2nd floor unit to fuck and then take the dog out to fight.

I would come to the dog fights with a fabulous outfit and big sunglasses and a sun bonnet.

TitusTheLookOfLove said...

The rare clumbers would not be involved in any of the fighting though.

They would be home lounging on the italian sofas and living the good life.

OK. I just want everyone here to know the rare clumbers would not be involed in any dog fighting.

Joe said...

I believe the margin showed that it wasn't fixed. The producers and judges clearly wanted Archuleta to win, and had plenty of leeway to manipulate the vote (which I'm very sure they've done in the past), but a 12% cap is just too big to fix.

Ironically, Cook will probably wish he lost. I understand that first record contract is very restrictive.

For me the defining moment came during the sing-alongs. Cook performing with ZZ Top was excellent. Archuleta performing with whoever was sappy and pretty awful. The guy is really limited in his talent and it showed.

(BTW, anyone catch the look on Archuleta's face during the Guru placement. It was like a deer caught in the headlights. Most of Meyers' jokes went right over his head. Sweet, I suppose, but awkward.)

vbspurs said...

BTW, anyone catch the look on Archuleta's face during the Guru placement.

Hmm, I fancy this is AI insider-speak, but I did see Archuleta's face during Seacrest's announcement.

Either he lacks confidence entirely, or he was tipped he wouldn't win beforehand.

That was a face of the certainty of loss.

Cheers,
Victoria

Even if you lose, AI sort of owns you for a while.

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood did fine after winning, so somebody with real talent will.

It's better than loading your reel onto YouTube or selling CDs out of your van!

vbspurs said...

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood

OMG...I realise just now I've been confusing them all this time.

Kelly Clarkson sang for the Pope, and I thought that was her at the Country Music Awards, this week. Oy, what a schande.
