Verso, you can find out all about Althouse's camera by going to the Flickr page for one of her pictures and clicking on more properties in the little menu on the lower right side of each picture. This displays the photograph's embedded Exif data, which is recorded in most modern digital cameras.
As to the depth of field, Althouse seems to use a Nikon D50, which is an SLR camera. This means the depth of field is entirely controlled by the aperture of the lens (the more you "stop down" the greater your depth of field). I don't know how controllable depth of field is in fixed-lens point-and-shoot cameras.
She shot the last picture (the one of Christopher and the cookie) at f/4, hence the very shallow depth of field, though fisheye lenses tend to have a more generous depth of field even at wide apertures.
Michael_H, come on now, out with the old and in with the new. Farve has had his day and it's time to hang 'em up. All hail Eli, the new standard (at least until the next Superbowl).
michael_h: My reaction as well. Favre's retiring and no word from Prof. Althouse!
So let's all toast The Great Favre! Vicodin with a Dixie Long Neck chaser! You can say Eli is The Latest Shout -- talk to me when he's started every game for a decade.
Hey all respect to the great Farve, but you have to admit Eli had one of the great drives in Super bowl history against an undefeated team. And correct me if I am wrong, but didn't they win the same number of Super bowls. Just sayn'
I love the Packers. They are old school NFL. John Brockington was a friend of mine. Brooklyn boy you know.

Ann,
What kind of camera do you use? (If you don't mind my asking.) Does it allow you to control depth of field?
I love how the D in DUMBO means "Down." It's not just under there, it's down under there.
No wonder he looks woozy in that bottom photo, is that cow plop in front of him?
It's a chocolate chip cookie with about 2,000 calories.
Pancakes are the least appealing breakfast food. At least get a waffle. What was in the panini?
That's the "economico" panini, with mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes.
Ann-
You had the cafe mocha in the morning and the same day you have that chocolate drink?
And today you declare your cruel neutrality!
Umm-Yodeeeladeeeehoooo-
Did you go all Swiss ?
He's always wearing the same shirt
I love pic one. It is my favorite type of urban scene.
FLS,
There is a place in Harlem where you can get fried chicken and waffles. That is breakfast!

Cookie? Pannini? Pancake? Cafe Mocha?
God Lord woman, Brett Favre just retired. How can you think of food at this time?
The grief, the grief.

I dunno if it's breakfast food, but it's no longer breakfast time here in Indiana, so dang that's making me hungry. In summer, we grow fresh basil.
What a great looking cafe in the second shot. What's the name of that place?
I don't think it even has a name, but it's in the same space as the Tivoli store ... on Front Street. The sign just says "café."
