Watching the Super Tuesday results.

We're about to hear a lot of news as the polls close in 5 minutes in many states. Stay tuned.

ADDED: Oh? Am I underblogging today? Sorry. I'm tired. I was up at 4 to catch a flight from Madison to New York. Our plane had a near miss coming into LaGuardia, but I was napping and didn't notice the slowing and speeding and slowing maneuver. I woke up to hear the pilot describe it after the fact, and at that point, it's no scarier than something that happens to someone else. Aptly, class today was the right to die. And there was all that stress over the TV show that I didn't do. I was relieved to get off the hook. I've hit the wall. To tell you the truth, I'm watching "American Idol" — and just checking the primary news on line as I go. That Lushington girl was pretty cool. Love the name.

Is the surprise story of the night going to be that Huckabee surged even though all the media folks have been writing him off since Iowa? Or is it just that the first few states to be called are in the South?

I have to admit that one of the reasons I haven't already mailed off my WA state absentee ballot is that I don't really like Romney or McCain, in terms of personality or policies. And while I can't in my right mind actually picture Huckabee being president, I find myself liking the guy. So I've been waiting until after today for him to drop out so I can return to sanity and pick a candidate, but the early returns are making me think I won't get that easy way out.

Maxine Weiss said...

I've been disenfranchised.

Unknown said...

Huckabee has ties to people in the Dominionist movement -- people who genuinely want to establish a Christian theocracy both at home and abroad.

The fact that he may win a few primaries tonight should scare the crap out of the so-called conservatives who frequent this place.

Why? Because he's their Jeebus freak doppelganager, i.e a religious version of Goldwater in '64. If he gains even a hint of legitimacy in this election cycle, his followers will consider themselves part of a movement, and they'll work like hell to take over the party. Then in ten or 15 years, either Huckabee himself or somebody like him (a fundie Reagan, if you will) will run again as a credible candidate with a shot at winning.

At which point, you guys will reap the whirlwind, and frankly it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of small-minded reactionaries.

lurker2209 said...

Does 'disenfranchised' have an actual meaning anymore, or does it just stand for 'I live near a bunch of people who don't agree with me and they won. No fair!'

Maxine Weiss said...

"I was relieved to get off the hook."----Althouse

That's a lie.

You're ego won't allow you to admit how shattered you really are.

Susan Estrich was all over Fox News.....FOX NEWS and Susan Estrich....whoaa

Get an Agent, Althouse....get an Agent.

Maxine Weiss said...

What on earth were you doing in Wisconson the weekend before a Primary, anyway ????

You could have stayed in New York and made yourself available to media.

Thump thump thump ....

Hel-lo ??? Anybody home? This was not the weekend to travel. Gee I recall telling you that too, last week.

Althouse.

She'll never learn.

That's the first time I've heard the domination of the Republican Party by religious conservatives described as a hypothetical future event...

Hah. I knew you would come to your senses.

Maxine Weiss said...

Althouse won't listen to a word I say, but if there's turbulence on one of your endless airplane trips.....the Universe is sending you a message.

Namely, don't fly anymore. And, stay home from now on.

"Oh? Am I underblogging today?"

Um, no. It appeared that you were finally listening to your fear of being boring. Face it, Ann, you have nothing to say about the presidential race. Even C-SPAN agrees.

C-SPAN. Does anyone actually watch C-SPAN. Haha!

Trooper York said...

Look Giuliani, if you don't have the balls to stay in the race you should just shaduppa yu face. Don't make me sic Theo on you.

Maxine Weiss said...

Thump thump thump.

Had you have bothered to stay in New York, Fox News would've sent a car to ferry you to the studio.

It's a little hard for them to do that if you're in Wisconson.

Duh.

Maxine Weiss said...

The Fox news Livery is absolutely spectacular.

Plush Lincoln Towncars swathed in the finest fabric seating, movies-on-demand, butler service....

But no, provincial Althouse feels much more comfortable in confines of Madison, Wisconson during the biggest Primary of all time.

Another opportunity completely squandered.

Susan Estrich is dancing a jig !

Dear Fstop:

Actually,Huck reminds me more of Patrick Henry than a Christian conspiracy paticipant. Read the whole and unedited "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech. Hint: he wasn't speaking of a secular socialist state. Most of America still recognizes that the US is a republic founded on Judao-Christian values and would have no interest in looney theocrats, unless the secularists succeed in removing all trace of religion from our country.

Peter V. Bella said...

Bobby Flay won the biscuit challenge, now he is in Greenwich New York for an Ice Cream Throw Down.

Much better than the Primary. This is based on real experience, real decision making abilities, and of course man's most important issue- food.

I also do not believe Huck, though likable, is either POTUS or VPOTUS material.

Actually it kind of makes sense. As the religious fringe looses control of the party it gets more fringy! Most of the rest of us are realizing that you can hold passionate moral and religious opinions without thinking they make a good basis for governing. Huckabee reminds me of by grandfather and the wonderful pastors of my childhood, but I'll get over that!

If McCain gets the nod he might pick Huckabee as his veep running mate. It would be a brilliant move. Lose true conservatives but gain the Protestant right. He might actually stand a chance against Billarybama. But what a nightmare for America! Going going gone as we knew it.

I stand corrected about Estrich. It's true, she does have that squashed froggy thing going. And a hoarse (not horse) voice. Gravid swamp sex with her.

Since tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, I am going to make pepper and egg sangwiches- not a misspelling. I usually fry up a big batch of green peppers in olive oil, but I put a large poblano in to kick it up. Good crusty French bread, scrambled eggs, peppers on top then a spoonful or two of hot giardinera. That is a real sangwich.

If you want the low cal version well, the low cal version of this is a half a sangwich.

I would be careful if I were you. Those trilaterals are pretty dangerous and if they know that you know something that they know about but don't want anyone else to know about, they will have you silenced.

I would not want to be on with Susan Estrich either. Hey, how about Maxine and Susan Estrich. That would be a real pairing. The queen of ugly versus the queen of Fat Tuesday.

Maxine Weiss said...

And where is it getting her? Not on C-Span, apparently.

Althouse moans about her finances; well, the big money is in publishing or TV.

Althouse is the one who snubs Estrich repeatedly. How ironic, because Althouse always chides anyone who refuses to engage with her....T-Rex etc.

Yet, every single time Althouse has been at a function with Estrich, Althouse never makes an overture.

Kind of cool, but crazy. Or crazy but cool.

I discovered that at the lowest level of American national politics, it's me, my husband, and four other people. We picked a delegate -- I would have done it but I'm busy that day -- and that was that.

Ron Paul won the straw poll at my caucus, btw.

Maxine Weiss said...

Hey, I tried to help her. She won't listen to me.

I tried to tell her to grow her hair. You don't go on national TV without big hair, and especially blondes. Blondes are expected to have full, lush cascading curls.

Sherry Bebitch Jaffe, is an old Dyke, so they leave her alone.

But, Althouse is expected to be glamorous, and that means long long hair, rouge, false eyelashes, irridescent shadow etc. Contouring, lots of contouring and shading.

And her nails....what's going on with Althouse's manicure ??? Not good. She needs to get some good arcrylics, or French tips, especially if she's gonna be gesticulating wildly.

Listen, if you're a blond, that's what they expect. You're expected to meet expectations, and be what they want you to be.....and then there'd be no hesitation, ---they'd send a car immediately.

You know, there's this little problem with conformity, the same problem the kid seems to have. These Althouses want to do things their own way, and be little rebellious rugged individualists.

Well, sorry....that's not how the World works! Not if you're trying to hustle for work, either on TV, or in the big Law Firms.

Listen to what I'm saying, Althouses. I have years of experience at this!!!!

She is looking for a nice Jewish fella in Irvine to take her away from the squalor she has descended into. She is not so much looking towards marriage, as to the divorce. Or, download a phony one for free....which I don't do, of course.

McCain just took California and Missouri (a winner-take-all state).

He's not only locking it up tonight, but Huck's whipped Romney into shape.

A McCain/Huckabee ticket?

Could be a possibility. McCain takes the West and Northeast, and Huck holds down the South. Sounds almost like the Kennedy/Johnson strategy of 1960.

But oh, wouldncha just luuuuuv to know who I am ....

You're dying of curiosity, aren't you.

Hint: Ms. Ann Althouse knows EXACTLY who I am !!!!

And, she has right from the very beginning.

:)

There is the shell script that can't figure out how to link giving us IP lessons!

Ah the jig is up! Er...didn't some politician get in trouble for that??

Maxine Weiss said...

OK, how about this: You teach me how to link, and I'll teach you how to use a phony IP address.

Deal ?

(I'm just joking !)

I have one word for you...Vidalia.

For the record: I've never done anything improper.

Actually, I have another one...Tor.

If your wondering why Althouse allows all this (I read minds, and know you're wondering)

The reason she tolerates me is that, unlike some people, I've never used my relative anonymity to do harm or injury.

Nobody's been injured physically by me. Emotionally? Well, I am pretty powerful there, I suppose.

There are some people in this, here --online--- world who misuse their anonymity, or pseudonimity--as it were.

So, Althouse allows me, as an example of someone who's using her psydonimity (SP?) in a creative, non-injurious way, to show that it can be done like that in a safe and creative manner. Outrageous and controversial, yet still safe and non-injurious nonethless.

I'm here to set an example.

That's why she created me, as her alter-ego !

ZPS--Don't feel bad. I've never voted for a winner, either. Looks like Mrs. Clinton is going to win the nomination, though, what with the super delegates and now California. It will be closer than the Clintons would prefer, but she'll win.

And the Republican side looks incredibly weak, no matter what.

Sometimes the inevitable does happen.

I just felt the need to assure everyone that my conduct is, and has always been, above reproach around here. And, online in general.

No improprieties.

I'm not capable.

A McCain/Huckabee ticket?

Probably not. About as likely as a McCain/Lieberman ticket. Neither is very attractive to the base. That said, once McCain locks up the votes for his nomination, if Joe Lieberman walks across the aisle, caucusing with the GOP and throwing control of the Senate to them, then Lieberman it is. I doubt it, though.

Yes, we believe you, Maxine. Or is it Luckyoldson, or perhaps fstopfitzgerald? What other trolls might you be?

Some of us don't need IP address verification to have seen the similarity of passive aggression and arrogance among these characters, and to know they're the same person.

Maxine Weiss said...

Oh yes. And, as I've said the motive for all this is to exhibit the wonders of psyudonimity (SP ???) and to show how creative and safe it can be.

That's why I'm doing it.

I'm an exhibitionist.

"I wish someone would teach me how to do links."
Maxine

You don't need links, you're doing fine with the bread crumbs.

OK, let's get back on topic---not that it hasn't been thoroughy fun to dissect myself....

So, with respect to Hillary's 'Delegate' problem: Didn't she once suggest we throw out the Electoral College?

If the Electoral College is eliminted, that solves all her Delegate problems.

(Yes, I flunked ConLaw, although it hasn't seemed hurt me in other areas!)

A near miss would be marked by a high-g climb or turn, or zero-g dive, not slowing.

Slowing is just a chess move in a bureaucratic gotcha game, like horns when somebody is slow to start at a red light.

me: "Ron Paul won the straw poll at my caucus, btw."

followup: From reading the New Republic, I thought only fascist voted for Ron Paul...Is Minnesota full of Fascists?

Well, the straw poll says Romney won overall, but since my caucus site went for Paul, let me address whether my caucus site was full of fascists. (I voted for McCain.)

The Paul contingent, about a third of the participants, appeared (except for being very white) quite diverse. Lots of young people, lots of old people, males and females. Suits and beards. They were concentrated in a couple of the precincts. They introduced lots of resolutions (I think maybe they should change the slogan to "Ron Paul Resolution") and appeared to adhere to Robert's Rules of Order with great earnestness.

The only person we spoke to who told us why he wanted RP was a dreadlocked twentysomething who was hoping for legal marijuana. I did overhear a number of resolutions against the income tax.
