It does that way.
Freezing rain and sleet here. It's a solid sheet of ice outside. And we're just 200 miles due west of NYC.

when i moved out east i never saw people with umbrellas during snowstorms.
That's one way to rinse the urine off the sidewalks.
Titus, you're right. I'd forgotten. New Yorkers carry umbrellas for snow, so naturally they had them when the snow turned to rain.
"Devolved"? I say rain is the higher state. Then vapor.
Snow changing to rain in New York City is as inevitable as Republican Congressmen being indicted.
These photos remind me of the pictures taken in Paris around 1900, raining, lots of umbrellas... Shoot, I can't remember the artist! Help me out here.
