I'm sure there were days where Lincoln felt like that first photograph...

Ah, the memories of Wisconsin snow and ice. And watching people slip and fall on their butts trying to walk down that sidewalk.

welcome back to the frozen tundra. you picked a good winter to stay out of town. I can't believe you made it out to campus today. I did not leave the house except to shovel and take out the trash. wonder whether the weather will impact turn out tuesday, some folks will still be digging out their cars for a while.

Hey, are they running out of salt in Madison? Lots of places in SE Michigan are this year.

Simon captured the sublime, now for the ridiculous.

Legend has it if a co-ed sits in Lincoln's lap he'll stand up.

If you're picking a college that has snow, pick one without hills.

Mr. Forward বলেছেন...

I got the legend wrong. Lincoln only stands up if a virgin co-ed sits in his lap. And Yeah, we're still waiting.

An older man wearing a stovepipe hat, a waistcoat and a phony beard sat down at a bar and ordered a drink. As the bartender set it down, he asked, "Going to a party?"

"Yeah, a costume party," the man answered, "I'm supposed to come dressed as my love life."

"But you look like Abe Lincoln." protested the barkeep.

"That's right. My last four scores were seven years ago."

If you're picking a college that has snow, pick one without hills.

Then you can't slide down hills on trays pilfered from the cafeteria!

Bubbles: Poetry.
Thornton Melon: Really? Well, maybe you can help me straighten out my Longfellow.

Is this where Lincoln uttered the famous sentence that started with "It will be a cold day in hell...."?

It looks like Abe is presiding over nuclear winter.

Was Abe there because the "mall" was having a President's Day Sale?

Pretty and all, but

Lawyers like snowflakes

could such places not be used for better endeavors.

Not to do some freakonomics...or freakojurisprudence but why not co-relate lawyers have a hand in high crime rates and prison rates in America. Backwards, you know.

From wiki questions:
Lawyers per capita--who has the most:

Answer
U.S., by far. There is one lawyer on every 300 americans. The U.S. has seventy percent of the world's lawyers but only five percent of the world's population.
Clarification: While it looks like the US has the most number of lawyers, the per capita numbers suggest Spain and Italy are not "by far" the most although the 1MM+ number is staggering.

Country Lawyers Population People/Lawyer

P/L: 265 USA
P/L: 395 Spain
P/L: 488 Italy
P/L: 401 UK
P/L: 593 Germany
P/L: 1403 France

The lawyer number for the US comes from the ABA (active) for 2007: http://www.abanet.org/marketresearch/2007_Natl_Lawyer_FINALonepage.pdf for the other countries I used the data from the Council of European Lawyers (active when stated)

http://www.ccbe.eu/fileadmin/user_upload/NTCdocument/table_number_lawyers1_1179905628.pdf

The population numbers were pulled on Jan 2nd 2008 from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population

Of course, with 2.2 million people in US prisons, that means there is about 1 lawyer for every inmate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisons_in_the_United_States#Population_statistics

and considering they are in the upper brackets of the salary category..

well my logic says that there is more money wasted per capita than any other place...

extreme inefficiencies in our american system.

probably due to their own need for existence =verbose, periphrastic, pleonastic need to hear themselves think aloud and get paid per time to utter such ramblings

waiting to get a

"HUH?"

from one lawyer on this blog.

So if we had more lawyers, would we have more people in prisons?

Huh?

নামহীন বলেছেন...

yes, we would. a vast majority, or simple majority, smartest professionals design their careers around creating more income for themselves.

they create more laws to disobey, or become constituionalists to argue with those creating more laws.

feed on your own tail. i think we call that verbal mastering abatement. or something?

NOTE: FULL RATIONAL AND EMOTIONAL DISCLOSURE to OCCUPATION

the fine capital print:

I became a mother unwittingly at age 23, and a grandmother even more unwittingly at age 46. See how that design is inherented.

you do the math and science. Nowadays i heard there is much more math and science involved to becoming a mother at the age of 35 and above.

নামহীন বলেছেন...

hey, two Stephe's or is it Steve's

have you researched this yet? We could do take 2. Otherwise, just mention me in the credits of your next book and a free meal at some lawyers expense. I'll be satisfied. I'm simple like that.

What's even funnier in the economics of things. I've been sued twice, through a divorce, through seven closings and never once has a lawyer never bought me lunch. The lawyers got their pockets filled, mine were emptied, and no free lunch. I guess the economics win.

নামহীন বলেছেন...

l...ever... correction.

never once has a lawyer ever bought me lunch.
