"It's having been native to an era and a culture in which self (and sex) was almost ideologically paramount, which, unless you've gotten over it, doesn't leave you too well provided for when self (and sex) begins to fail."
Yikes! So, what are you saying, Amba? Get over sex, lest suicidal urges overwhelm you as you approach old age?

Boomers can be such big babies.
Too many boomers bought the "morality is old fashioned" nonsense. Hedonism and narccicism are really hollow over the long term.
For those of us who actually grew up, sex (and life in general) is great.
It makes sense really; they've gone upstream to spawn, and if their portfolios underperform, bears are waiting for them to be lunch!
Don't think of it as suicide. Think of it as making the ultimate sacrifice to reduce their carbon footprint.
Suicide's not so bad. What's wrong with death on your own terms? For those of us not burdened with the threat of some cosmic "gotcha" on the other side, it's really a pretty good way to go.
Think about it: What's the use of living with dementia in a home, unvisited by your offspring, being treated like trash by underpaid quasi-nursing staff?
"Boomers can be such big babies."
Yeah, suicide is the ultimate tantrum.
....
If they didn't want us to be babies, they should have named our generation without using the word "babies." We'll be called babies even when we're 100... if we put up with the inconvenience of sticking around that long.
Why question a good thing?
Alas, the "babies" tag has stuck due to the curse of alliteration!
Whatever works. Fewer baby boomers is fine with me.
suicide is the ultimate tantrum
I'll bet some of the grieving, angry survivors of suicide feel that it is.

If only they had offered more sex, he might have stuck around.
