From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Extreme examples of the Ginkgo's tenacity may be seen in Hiroshima, Japan, where four trees growing between 1–2 km from the 1945 atom bomb explosion were among the few living things in the area to survive the blast (photos & details). While almost all other plants (and animals) in the area were destroyed, the ginkgos, though charred, survived and were soon healthy again. The trees are alive to this day.

Why did you take a close up of your abandoned OTB ticket? I know that you have taken up cigar smoking and handicapping as I often see you hanging out at the OTB parlor on Montague St. Thank god you didn't take a snap of the empty St. Ives can in the paper bag you threw at Ozzie yesterday. Some things should stay private, don't ya think.

Lucky that wasn't a female ginkgo tree. Those fruit stink when they fall and get stepped on.

I adore the colors in the bottom photograph, especially the particular blues--my favorites, even though as a general color I prefer green.

The leaves that once were scarlet-gold
Let's be like them as we grow old
Have fallen down and gone to khaki
Flame one last time before we segue.

You are a late bloomer. Peak foliage ended two months ago. We've already had the first snowfall, and you are still back in Autumn.....

Where have you been?

Anway, please provide Thanksgiving to your readers.

reader_iam ayon kay ...

Eva Cassidy's version of Autumn Leaves jumps to mind.

Warning: Melancholy.

reader_iam ayon kay ...

Damn, I wish that woman hadn't died so young.

Maxine Weiss ayon kay ...

For God's sake...give your readers Thanksgiving.

It's Thanksgiving, yet Althouse decides to use the time to prove what a Rugged Individualist she is by completely ignoring the Holiday.

You've got 364 other days to prove what a "non-Conformist" you are.

Your readers are clamoring for Thanksgiving, and they want it NOW !!!

JohnAnnArbor ayon kay ...

Maxine, you are not the sum total of the universe.

reader_iam ayon kay ...

I think she is giving Thanksgiving (thanks).

Maxine Weiss ayon kay ...

I'm talking a traditional Thanksgiving, with all the trimmings.

We are in Holiday mode, now, and it's not the time to be talking about Hillary et al.

Blogging is not a philanthropic endeavor, as you've got paid ads, and overly concerned with page-views.

Charity and philanthropy involves communing with the indigent and destitute the way Mrs. Nancy Reagan did when that retarded black child threw up all over her designer shoes.

Now that's what I call Philanthropy ! And, Mrs. Reagan never broke character. She simply smiled sweetly thru the whole thing !!!!

If Mrs. Reagan could do it, I'd expect at least as much from Mrs. Althouse.

Hey Maxine give it a rest. The professor lets Lucky puke all over her shoes every week and stays in character with nary a disapproving nod. Iron self control.

I enjoy the holidays, but Maxine's constant harping on every one that comes down the pike makes me want to go all rebellious and perverse and boycott them.

"No, I WON'T eat my vegetables." "But you love vegetables." " Yeah, but I hate your going on and on about how important they are more than I love eating them."

Maxine, you make the holidays seem like the castor oil people used to force down people's throats back in the day. Gag ... and then .... .

reader_iam: Do you have any idea what it takes to put a full-course, traditional Thanksgiving meal on the table, with all the trimmings ???

You have to start days, weeks in advance.

I might like to commiserate with the back-breaking preparations that go into it.

Not on this blog. Apparently nobody here is readying themselves for the big Day, or knee deep in preparation.

Philistines.

I just came back from the local supermarket. They want 7 bucks for a pumpkin pie. 7 bucks! I'm gonna settle for crumb cake this time around. :^(

Maxine Weiss ayon kay ...

You are only just now thinking about Dessert?

Today is the absolute worst day to go Grocery Shopping.

You should have made your filling and freezed it weeks ago !

You're up the creek now.

Maxine Weiss ayon kay ...

Just improvise and make a fruit compote with oatmeal, berries, sweetened tofu and melons. Very healthy, and don't use any sugar, or sugar substitutes. Use grape juice, honey, and flour to thicken the sauce.

Throw all that on the stove to simmer, then you can transfer to a buttered baking dish and bake.

Easy, healthy and you've got Dessert!

ricpic ayon kay ...

Much too healthy. Don't you know that dessert is supposed to be decadent?!

Maxine Weiss ayon kay ...

'Decadent' takes weeks of intricate planning, and proper coordination/organization.

Frazzled nerves and back-breaking exertion.....

And, that's Thanksgiving! We do it because we're Americans and that's part of our heritage.

Unless you are Althouse, in which case you ignore the whole thing. Sigh.

She'll never change.

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone !!!

Zachary Sire ayon kay ...

I appreciate your enthusiasm, Maxine, but how come YOU haven't invited any of US over for Thanksgiving?

I have plans during the evening, but I'm free most of the morning and afternoon. I'm just down the 405 from you, after all.

Maxine Weiss ayon kay ...

I truly wish I were able to accommodate all who wish to gain entry to the House of Maxine.
