Madison — foliage and firearms.

I'm here in Madison today, and I took a couple pictures with my iPhone. Here's Bascom Mall with lots of green and orange, and a woman lounging around in a tank top:

Is she very hardy, inured to cold by years of Wisconsin weather? Maybe she is, but you can't judge from this, because the temperature was in the 80s today.

As long as we're looking at tops worn by Madison women today, check out this one:

You have to make a clean break.

Playing both sides of the fence is unbecoming.

I don't know about her shirt, but judging from her haircut, I would have to guess that she is sporting the Oscar Gamble.

Smooth Sumac turning red in the back yard.

Trip to the supermarket at noon

Cheerful fall colors on the way back.

Forget about her shirt, what about his shoes. Jeez.

She also looks like she borrowed something from Dirk Diggler. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just keep it in the knapsack please.

A single shot lass, eh? I like mine semi-auto...

First thing I noticed was that Brooks leather saddle. Sweet. That's a woman who understands quality.

Dude, she looks pretty fit. I don't see any evidence of saddlebags.

Dr. Helen's playing games. Here's what she did:

She came out with a post yesterday. And then took that same post, with absolutely no new material..... and labeled it today's.

It's one thing to skip a day. But it's something else entirely to take an old post, with absolutely no new updates....and try to pawn if off as current!

Dr. Helen probably thought nobody would notice. Someone should tell her my eagle eyes never miss a Trick.

Love, Maxine

If you don't believe me, take a look at the comments section. Dr Helen's comments are labeled 'October 20'....but the blog post is dated 'Ocotber 21'.

??????

And there's absolutely no explanation, on her part, for the discrepancy.

Credibility.

Love, Maxine

When 6 out of the first 10 comments are me and Maxine, you know that the thread has gone horribly, horribly wrong.

At first I was a little surprised that a Madisonite would be sporting a $100 designer thermal. But, I think that's just an inspired-by-Primp kind of thing. I kind of love it.

My father dated a woman, then in her mid 50's, who wore tank tops all year and kept her house in the mid 50's (degrees). Permanent hot flash?
She had some heart problems 10 years later, was sent home with medication, and died while talking on the phone the next day.

I'd pay $10 to smell that seat, $5 to smell that Brooks leather saddle.

Pretty sure it's the B17 Narrow. Sells for a very reasonable $110 at Wallingford Bicycle Parts (Excellent shop and mail order company out of New Orleans).

Madison does a bike messenger company. MIght be a messenger: seriously large messenger bag, toe cages for easy on /off -- also easier to walk across a tile floor in tennis shoes than bike cleats, and I'm not certain but I think it's a fixed gear.

The 80s? It didn't get above 70 here. That's after your spring started before ours. That's not fair.

It's 48 now.

Women's sit bones are further apart than men's, usually, and so there are wider women's saddles. Usually a man's won't work very well for women.

You're supposed to be supported completely by the bones in your butt, which makes you sore there the first couple times but is okay later. As opposed to ``tractor seat'' saddles, which seem comfortable at first but cut off circulation eventually.

Both men's and women's styles offer saddles with the center cut out, to avoid compressing soft tissues there, as well.

The high in Madison yesterday was 75. I wore shorts.

Professor, your choice of weekends was good -- the previous weekend was cool and rainy. Was this good long-range forecasting on your part, dumb luck, or a last-minute decision?

MM: I juggle my private affairs, which have nothing to do with the weather.

Then you were a lucky person this weekend!
