The Breaking Wave.

Breaking wave

How is it I never see
The waves that bring her words to me
For though unseen they drift around
They catch my breath and knock me down

I feel them quickly swirling by
As they withdraw with my reply
And slip into the dark of night
As I attempt to stay upright

Instead I'm stranded on my knees
As words depart upon the breeze
That quickly drifts away from here
And possibly won't reach her ear

If we could see these many waves
That flow through clouds and sunken caves
She'd sense at least the words that sought her
On the wind and underwater
(Phish)

We've been so caught up in the subject of personnel
Playing and acting, and slaving and bathing ourselves

Who lies and who tries to come over everyone
Painting a picture to show everyone in the world

Fearing is natural
New names and faces can bring
Build ups and barriers hiding behind everything

Who lies and who tries to come over everyone
Painting a picture to show everyone in the world
(Alice Cooper)

Wave

Vou te contar
Os olhos já não podem ver
Coisas que só o coração pode entender
Fundamental é mesmo o amor
É impossivel ser feliz sozinho

O resto é mar
É tudo que não sei contar
São coisas lindas
Que eu tenho pra te dar
Vem de mansinho a brisa e me diz
É impossivel ser feliz sozinho

Da primeira vez era a cidade
Da segunda o cais e a eternidade

Agora eu já sei
Da onda que se ergueu no mar
E das estrelas que esquecemos de contar
O amor se deixa surpreender
Enquanto a noite vem nos envolver

(Antônio Carlos Jobim)

The white waves repeatedly try
To wash the brown beach clean;
Failed and wan, back down they slide:
They retreat: washed-out has-beens.

Breaking

The dark and damp sands
Need and frustrate
but capitulate to the waves
By the light of our star
and on account of the moon.

A wave of icing on a cinnamon roll?

Looks less like a breaking wave than a broken one, with the dark background showing all around the image edges like a cut and paste profound art statement.

Or, could be a warning about Global Freezing writ in Asian or Arabic upon the rock and lichen at the poles.

I don't see "a torn poster on a rusty wall" or a sailboat or anything :(

How does a wall get rusty? Is it a metal shed? Help me!

Caroline ayon kay ...

That looks like graffiti on the wall; is it not?

Jane--thanks for printing the "Wave" lyrics in their original Portuguese. I perform Jobim tunes all the time as instrumentals, but it's not often that I get to see the lyrics as "Tom" (Jobim's nickname) meant them. Beautiful stuff...
