Wait, is this delighted schadenfreude inspired by a rival Big Ten university's misfortune, or commiseration with your alma mater's embarrassing upset on the football field?

I'm confused.

(oh, and ha ha!)

(that puts me in the schadenfreude camp, I suppose)

[had to fix the spelling of schadenfreude, and insert a few missing articles]

The Suck-varines done gone toes up! It's kind of like Hitch's cameo in his later films; get the wailing and gnashing of teeth out of the way early...

See ya in 'ought 8!

Glad my emotional health is not dependant on the outcome of football games.

Baseball? That's another matter.

Not a good day for the Big-10.

Seemed like an excellent day in the Big 10 to me.

Both my parents were UM alums. I went to Michigan State. When Notre Dame looses big I dig into my Lutheran Hymnal and sign a few of my favorites. When UM looses at home my faith in God is renewed. When both loose on the same day I permit myself 2 martinis before dinner.

Bombay Saphire, up, dirty. thank you.

SEC fan here so I have no dog in that fight (pardon the Micheal Vick joke), but don't you just love these once in a blue moon upsets. I'm also an Ole Miss grad and this brings back fond memories of our 1977 victory over Notre Dame - the National Champion that year.

too many jims: Those aren't the words one hears in Madison.

Yes, it is always nice when an amateur college team defeats a semi-professional team loosely associated with some university...

I don't doubt that one bit! Care to share a few lines? (That said, even as one who is not a fan of UM, I think "Victors" is one of the best college 'fight' songs.)

I was in the band at MSU and to keep track of things and be fair, the Wisconsin band was first rate and always a welcomed group in E. Lansing and when we traveled there it was with the same courtesy and sportsmanship even though at that time we used to beat your ass.

My dad was one of the 3 founders of the Brown Jug restaurant on S. Univ. in Ann Arbor..back in the Tom Harmon days but little else other than amazing losses....so my attachment to UM football was pretty much from birth. I have fond memories of the UM stadium, band days, and the pre-Bo Schembechler days when 65,000 was a huge crowd.

Living on the east coast where college football is displaced by pro teams, i try and tell people what UM was like playing MSU, 105,000 in the stands, 10,000 people showing up for band practice 3 hours before the game, singing the alma mater before marching to the stadium...and to have them loose to AppSt.... its Monday and I'm still a happy camper, work day or not.

Hey, I worked at the Brown Jug for a little while when I was a student (circa 1970).

John Philip Sousa - who ought to know - called On Wisconsin, "the finest of college marching songs."
