About that architecture.
Given my history of writing about symbolic representations of the female anatomy and even, specifically, vulviform architecture, I'm getting a lot of email about this picture Glenn Reynolds posted yesterday. But he's talking about that Instapundian thing: outer space. Over here, we've got other things to talk about.

Well, sure, there’s outer space, inner spaces, structures that explore those spaces and those that enclose them. What’s Freudian about that?
That's pretty much my first reaction to that picture. Sort of an, Um, you have looked at this haven't you?
Paglia denies there's a vulvaform. She says female genitals on the contrary are essentially architecturally chaotic.
That fits with Emmanuel Levinas's account of the erotic, where nothing must ever terminate in coming to light ; it keeps the male in search mode. (Totality and Infinity, Appendix B, The Phenomenology of Eros)
As I emailed Mr. Reynolds...it looks more like a Klingon toilet seat!
I think it was inspired by the head of Jar Jar Binks
Silly geese. It's the hood ornament from a Studebaker Hawk.
"Virgin" Galactic, no less.

Typical male worship from that man wannabe. All those tropes that implicitly or explicitly compare the intellect to the phallus are a riot.
She wishes she had been born crested not cloven.
I just finished a post discussing George Will's article 'Lessons from the Doomed Edsel'. Talking about vulviform architecture... the 1958 Edsel!

Sometimes it takes a really smart person to come up with the stupidest thing you've ever heard.
Have her look at this an analyze it as anything but .... you know ...
As if phalluses were all as uniform as the prevalence of the adjective "phallic" would make it seem. (It's longer than it's wide, right?)
Organic shapes are irregular. That doesn't mean they can't be abstracted.
I don't get it.
Or, Ruth Anne, how about -- Althouse: The Go-To Vulvi-Forum? *snort*
My wife drove a Vulva wagon for years.
