"We wouldn't have invented a disease unless we had something to take for it."

Frightening -- foreboding -- line from a 1960s ad:

Sounds like the voice of Gene Wilder (Doctor Frankensteen).

And I supplied the *correct* woman-eating-steak link on the other thread.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Yeah, it is Gene Wilder.

Was that Frau Blücher?

I've always relied instead on Ennui-Seltzer for that malady.

It is a far superior product than its predecessor, Ennui-Samsa, which had the regrettable side effect of awakening to find oneself transformed overnight into a gigantic insect.

Though the wings were cool, at first.

Virginia Postrel had a good post on this the other day:

"Why not treat a biological condition you just don't like? (I'm assuming that you are directly or indirectly paying for the treatment.) We don't have to call Restless Leg Syndrome a disease to acknowledge that it disturbs some people's sleep and that those people would like relief. Contrary to what you may have heard, the only sort of character suffering builds is the ability to suffer--a useful ability in a world where suffering is the routine nature of life but not a virtue that makes the world a better place."

Pogo, very funny.

I kept thinking of the "Who does depression hurt?" commercials.

TNR:

We wouldn't have invented a disaster unless we had something to alleviate it. We do.

“George Bush, leave this world alone." "George Bush, find yourself another home."
