Although I can't be sure it wasn't fake, because one of the actors is in a cop uniform, there was a police officer standing guard over the whole thing. I don't think you could do this on the sly on the Brooklyn Bridge. The security presence around the bridge is very apparent.
Happy to report I haven't had to wear long pants since early June, but I'm afraid those warm days will coming to an end soon. What a bizare prejudice to have.....
It looks to me like the guy with the gun, fake or not, is totally clueless about firearms and their use. It looks as it he is so scared of the icky thing he has in his hand that he can't grip it as if he intended to use it. Having that in the frame makes the whole scene and probably the whole film loose credibility with many. Though, given the firearms laws in NYC, I'll bet that it's pretty tough for young film makers to get legitimate advice on making a scene with guns look authentic.
Gun, shmun. Nobody here is discussing at the real crime Prof. Althouse caught on (digital) film.
Take a look at the white silhouettes on the walkway. These actors or hoaxers (or whatever), are camped out on the bicyclist's side. I've walked across the Brooklyn Bridge for fun many times with my daughter -- and a few times by necessity during the December 2005 transit strike. Those who ignore the pedestrian-side/bicyclist-side markings deserve to be hauled off to the pokey in short order. The bicyclists generally ride way too fast to be in such close proximity to people on foot, and since you're on a bridge, you've got nowhere to jump when one comes careening towards you. Mostly, though, problems don't arise from bicyclists poaching into the pedestrian side, they arise from idiot pedestrians who block the bike side and force the bikes into the people on foot.
Excuse my vehemence, but in the late '90s, I was walking across the Bridge and a knot of tourists from some faraway land all gathered on the bike side (then, as now, clearly marked not with words but with universally-recognizable icons). A couple bicyclists, trying to avoid these numbskulls, crashed into each other -- and me. The tourists watched the accident with some interest, but without a clue that they were its cause. After I picked myself up off the ground, I started to curse at them, but their docile incomprehension infuriated me so much I just limped my way off the walkway and to Park Place on the Manhattan side.

What's up with the guy in the green shirt? Is he wearing sweat pants with only the right leg rolled up?
Ahh - shorts and sandals. Nice way to spend a hot day wandering the city.
I love that the shorts are the weird and disturbing thing in this photo, and not the (fake?)firearm greasy jeans guy is holding.
Woohoo 2nd Amendment!!!
(didn't know it was still applicable in Brooklyn)
(which suggests that this is obviously grad students/hipsters doing some sort of photo/film shoot)
Sacrilege,darling!
The gun guy looks like Vince on "Entourage."
The most shocking thing... product placement. Really, Althouse, how much did Coca Cola pay you?
Did you ask to see their permit?
(Bloomberg should be informed if this was a rogue operation right there on the Brooklyn Bridge)
And wouldn't a good way to get a bunch of people lured in where you have a real gun and meant to do them harm is to pretend it's a fake gun?
(quick, tell Steven Levitt)
C'mon fess up...you loooooove him....you want to daaaaate him....and get all smoochy-oouchy with him....
come out of the shorts closet! ;)
The guy with the fake gun has probably just committed about 6 felonies in NYC.

Charming. I can just imagine the ambience on that bridge after dark.
